March 2002 Journal

This month I will be eight!  Months, that is!  Can you believe it?  I am really learning to move around!  Daddy said that I will be mobile in no time.  We'll see.
This month my Grandma Wiles, Aunt Atina and friend, Sam will be celebrating their birthdays.  We also have 2 holidays this month.  I am looking forward to this Easter thing because my whole family will be here and I will get to meet the "Easter Bunny".  I wonder if he would like to try some of my carrots?

From Tummy to Tushy
March 2, 2002
I am sooo glad that I can get off of my tummy if I want to now.  As you already know, I never did like that position very well.  Now that I can get out of it, I don't mind it so much.  It took me awhile to master this technique, but I worked really hard on it for about 2 whole days.  Daddy was excited because he captured it on video tape.  So, I'm sure some of you will be forced to watch it.  Sorry, about that.

I'm Eight Months Old Today
March 6, 2002

"Look out world, here I come!"

Happy 8 months to me!!  Boy, oh boy, have I been a busy boy.  I have been rolling over now.  Mommy and Daddy are quite happy with that.  I have learned how to move around.  Just backwards for now but it won't be long until I'm into everything!  I try to go forward.  I rock and rock but then WHAM-O, I land on my face!  Ouch!  However, while going backwards, I've learned that if I get my feet under me just right I can sit up!!  I really don't enjoy laying down anymore.  I can't see or get into anything in that position.  Sometimes if I'm lucky and Mommy & Daddy haven't noticed, I can get my hands on the remote control.  The other day I set the sleep timer and turned the TV up REALLY loud.  Grandpa Wiles would have appreciated that!
I don't know what new and exciting things I'll get to do this month, but I'll be sure to let you all know.  I am looking forward to Easter and seeing my family AND the Easter Bunny will be bringing me a basket.  I hope that there are bananas in there!!  Boy, do I LOVE bananas!!
Crawling All Around
March 20, 2002
I am finally figuring out this crawling business.  It has taken me a few weeks to master the going forward and I think I finally have it!!  I just have to hold myself up on my arms a little bit longer and move my legs up instead of back.  I still prefer going backwards, because it's the fastest for now.  But I am getting better and better every day!

Trip to Kentucky for Sam Lemmons First Birthday!
March 21-25, 2002
I got to go see my friend Sam!!  I was so excited when Mommy and Daddy told me that we were going.  We left around 10 in the morning on Thursday and rode in the car for a REALLY long time!!  The weather was crazy too!  It snowed, hailed, rained and was sunny.  Boy, was I happy when we pulled into their driveway around 9 o'clock!!  Jen was so happy to see me!  And Mommy and Daddy too.  Sam was asleep when we got there but then he woke up and we played for awhile.  Later, our other friends from Harrisburg, Jen and Darrin arrived.  They said that they had driven through the same nasty weather as we did.   I was soo sleepy, that I slept all night long.  Sam let us use his room.
The next day, Daddy, Darrin and Scott worked in the basement and Mommy, Jen and Jen got Sam's cake ready.  It was an Elmo cake and it looked soo yummy.  They worked really long and hard on it.  I was very proud of them!  That night we all went out to the Buckhead Grill Restaurant to eat.  I liked our table because there was a TV right above and I got to sit beside my friend Sam.  The Daddy's and Darrin got these really big drinks called beer and they thought it would be funny to take our picture so it looked like we were drinking them.  Well, it was funny until I grabbed Darrin's when he wasn't paying attention and dumped it all over myself and Sam!!!
On Saturday, we had to get up and get ready for Sam's party....he's one, ya know.  I'll be one in a few months!  People just started coming and coming and coming.  I didn't know when it was going to stop!  I learned some new words too, like y'all and grits.  Sam's family was really nice to me.  I was getting sooo much attention that Mommy and Daddy didn't even have to worry about me.  After everyone ate , Sam opened all of his presents.  He got sooo much stuff.  Mostly clothes and toys.  He was nice and shared them with me.  My favorite was the empty box from his John Deere wagon and Sam's was his Mommy's wooden spoon.  Oh, that thing hurts when it hits you on the head!!  After a long day of partying, Sam and I took a little nap.  Sam's cousin Bailey and her Mommy and Daddy stayed for the night too.  She was interesting...she can walk around and say things like "Hi Ya!"  She also thought it was fun to poke me in the face.  I didn't mind so much, but I didn't really see all of the fun in it!
Anyway, Sunday, we went to the  Louisville Zoo.  It was actually very nice and sunny outside.  I got to see some really neat animals.  I saw lions, tigers, bears, seals, monkeys, camels, elephants and giraffes.  The giraffe was really close!  Daddy and Mommy took me in to pet the goats, but I had just gotten up from my nap and they were kind of smelly and very pushy.  Don't know if I'll be doing that again anytime soon.
After a relaxing evening and a good nights sleep, we packed up and went home on Monday morning.  The weather was rainy almost for the whole trip.  Mommy and Daddy kept telling me what a good boy I was though.  We had a GREAT time and can't wait to go again.  I miss my friend already.

Cole's First Easter
March 31, 2002
Today we celebrated Easter.  My whole family was here...Grandma's and Grandpa's, Aunt's and Uncles!  We had a nice visit....even though I had caught a pretty bad flu bug. (I really don't know how I "caught" anything...I can't even roll a ball yet!). So, I wasn't feeling much like visiting at all!  I just wanted my Mommy to hold me all day long.  Anyway, about Easter.  I got all kinds of presents.  I wasn't even expecting presents, so it was a nice surprise!   Grandma & Grandpa Proper got me some really "cool" summer outfits and 3 (count em...1..2..3!) construction vehicles: a dump truck, cement mixer and a bull dozer!  They are a lot of fun to play with!  Grandma & Grandpa Wiles brought me diapers, some more "cool" summer clothes, PJ's, storybooks and stuffed bunnies.  Uncle Allen & Aunt Susan bought me an Easter bucket and bunny outfit, that I'm not sure if Daddy will ever let me put on!  I don't know, looks kind of cute to me!  I'm sure Mommy will talk him into it! Uncle JG got me a "Shamp-Pooh" Pooh Bear toy for the bath tub, he's neat, you put soap on his head and squeeze his tummy and bubbles come out!  He also brought me a Mickey Dancing Radio.  It dances and plays music.  I was scared of it at first, but again, I wasn't feeling too good.  But I like it now.  It's fun to watch....it makes Mommy, Daddy, Grammy and Pap-Pap do funny things!  I bet you think that I'm finished with presents...nope.  I still have to tell you about the Easter Bunny stuff!  I got a HUGE green ball, some bananas (YEA!) and 2 summer outfits and some snack foods.  All in all , I guess you could say that I had a great Easter.  Next year, Grandma Proper said that we'll hide the eggs and Uncle JG and I will hunt for them...I can't wait!  Oh, a BIG Thank you to all my family.  I LOVE YOU!
Happy Easter!
March 31, 2002

I know that I'm a little late with the wish for a Happy Easter but better late that never!  I wasn't feeling very good over the holiday so we've been celebrating it well into the week.  I had a nice time with my family and want to take this time to thank everyone for the great gifts.  Since I was sick, I didn't get to go visit the Easter bunny or color any eggs.  Mommy said that I can color some tonight or tomorrow.  She says that you can have colored eggs anytime!
Right now we are enjoying a visit from Grammy and Pap-pap Wiles.  They are staying for the week.  So, I hope everyone had a nice Easter and a Happy Spring!

xoxo - Cole
