May 2002 Journal

Ten months old this month and I am getting closer and closer to my birthday.  Mommy and Daddy can't believe how fast their little boy is growing up!  I'm just having fun exploring new things everyday...did you know if you look in the big shiny thing in the bathroom, there is a little boy in there that looks exactly like me?
No big huge plans this month....just waiting for the arrival of my new cousin!!  I can't wait to meet him or her!

The Sippy Cup
May 3, 2002
I have figured out how to use my cup!  Just like Mommy said, we were going to work on it last month.  It didn't take me very long to do.  I still have trouble remembering to use the spout right side up but sometimes I can still get something out of it!  My favorite cups to use are my bright orange one and the one with the "fishy's" on it.  They have handles and that makes them easier to hold.  At first, Mommy and Daddy had to help me "tip it up" to get the juice out, but I have now figured it out.  You just have to throw your head back just right and hope you don't lose your balance and fall backwards!!  I've done that a few times.

Welcome Nickoli Chevalye McCoy
May 5, 2002

My new cousin has arrived!  His full name is "Nickoli Chevalye McCoy". Nickoli is a form of Nicholas and Chevalye means "chivalry".   His Mommy and Daddy are my Auntie Atina and Uncle Will.  They live in Virginia and I got to go see him.  He was only a few hours old and soo tiny!  I didn't really see what the big deal was.  All he did was lay there with his eyes closed looking all cute.  Everyone sure did make a big fuss over him though!  I guess he'll be alright once he can get up and play with me!  Mommy says right now I have to be "gentle".  Whatever that means.  She says that too whenever I hit the fish tank!

Oh, well.  Welcome to the world Nick!  I can't wait to play with you!

Cole's Ears
May 5, 2002
Did you know that if you cover those things on the side of your head (Mommy said that they are called "ears") with your hands every thing sounds funny?  I was getting a little bored on the drive down to Virginia and Mommy's form of entertaining me was wearing a little thin, that I decided to put my hands over those things.  Well, I could still hear Mommy but it sounded different.  I tried my own voice out..."blah, blah".  I uncovered them..."blah,blah" and covered them again..."blah, blah".  This game was quite fun for awhile.  I just keep finding interesting new things out every day.

I'm 10 Months Old Today!
May 6, 2002

Sorry my update is a little late.  We have been busy around here recently and after you visit the webpage, I'm sure you'll see why.  It has taken me all day to get this thing back up to date.

Anyway, I'm 10 months old now!  What have I been doing?  Well, I have mastered my sippy cup.  Just like I said last month, that we were going to work on it.  It really wasn't all that hard to do.  I have become a pro at crawling and cruising around the furniture.  I can even let go for a bit and stand all by myself!  Only for a few seconds, but it's a start! I can climb the stairs pretty good now so Mommy and Daddy had to put up a gate.   I have gotten two bottom teeth.  They both decided to come in at the SAME TIME!!

I've discovered new sounds that I can make with my tongue.  I really like my tongue, and as you can see by the picture to the right, I like to stick it out a lot.

I'm wearing 12-18 month size clothes and still size 3 diapers.  I'm weighing around 21 1/2 pounds and am very close to 31 inches long!  Mommy said I need to SLOW DOWN...because we are going to a baseball game in New York next month and she'll have to buy me my own ticket if I'm 32 inches tall!!  HA HA.

Be sure to check out the webpage.  I've made lots of updates.  And I'm sure with my new cousin being born, there will be more.

Love, Cole

Cole Stands Alone
May 7, 2002
I just realized this morning, while at my Aunt and Uncle's house, that I can stand all by myself!  It's only for a few seconds but it sure does get everyone excited around here.  Grandma Proper would clap for me every time!  I made sure to raise my hands way up over my head so she would notice.  I get really excited about the whole thing too.  Sometimes too excited that I lose my concentration and fall down.  I am going to keep practicing though because I'm sure that this can only lead to bigger and better things!

Cole's First Baseball Game And Fireworks!
May 10, 2002
Mommy, Daddy and me all went to the Harrisburg Senators game on City Island tonight.  We met our friends, Darrin & Jen Hartley there too.  Also, friends Melonie & Ryan were there but they were with Melonie's Mommy and Daddy so they didn't get to sit with us.  Anyway, it was a lot of fun.  I got to see a lot of people and they gave me a Harrisburg Senators Softball!  But I especially liked when Darrin would hold me because I could flirt with all the girls that were sitting behind us.  Daddy made some kind of comment to Mommy about "not wanting to have any girls".  I'm not sure what he meant by that.  They were kind of noisy but they all thought I was really cute.  So, I had to show them how I can wave, stick my tongue out, make "bobble, bobble" sounds with my tongue, and then I played bashful too.  Anyway, I guess we were actually there to watch the game so I did a little bit of that too. The Senators were playing the New Britain Rock Cats.  The game was really exciting. ( You can check it out here).  The Senators scored 8 runs in one inning!!  They won 16 to 3!  But the real exciting part came AFTER the game!  They had these things called "fireworks" going off in the sky!!  It was, by far, the coolest thing I had ever seen in my whole little life!!  They were bright, flashy, huge and loud!  I was sooo excited that I was yelling and clapping along just like everyone else.  I couldn't take my eyes off of them!  I hope that Mommy and Daddy take me to see stuff like that again!!

Harrisburg's Capital Area Greenbelt Bike Adventure
May 11, 2002
Mommy, Daddy and me went for a bike ride today!  We went on the paths that the city made from the old railways.  We had nice, sunny but cool weather.  We had a good time stopping along the way to look at different things.  I got to see an old railroad bridge and a creek and I got to use Daddy's water bottle to get a drink!  Just like the big boys do! We only rode on it for about 4 miles ( that includes backtracking to the car).  I actually fell asleep for the last half of the ride.  The trail is well over 20 miles, so we are going to try to go back and get on at different spots so we can see the whole thing.  So, I'm sure you will see lots of pictures of my family on bike rides this summer!

Happy Mother's Day
May 12, 2002

I love you, Mommy!

Today is a special day for my Mommy!!  Daddy and me made her a special breakfast and let her sleep in.  I also got her a cool shirt that says, "World's Coolest Mommy".

Mommy said that today is a special day for all the Mommies in the world.

I would like to wish a VERY Happy Mother's Day to:  Grandma Proper, Great Grandma Young, Auntie Atina, Grammy Wiles, Great Aunt Kitty, Sam's Mommy and all the "Breakfast Club" Mommies!  Also to all the other Mommies I may have forgotten.   That's a lot of names for a 10 month old to remember!

Love, Cole

Visiting Grandma and Grandpa Proper
May 23 - 28, 2002
Mommy, Daddy and me went to Grandma and Grandpa's house for a visit.  We got there around dinner time on Thursday.  I had a fun time riding in the car even though I slept for most of it.  I always like watching everything "fly" by the windows!  Anyway, when we got their Grandpa was riding this REALLY loud machine around the yard!  I was a little scared of it so he turned it off.  I was so excited once we got inside and I could crawl all over the house.  The last time we were there, I didn't know how to move around yet.  Boy, they sure did have everything picked up!  All that stuff I had spied earlier, wasn't around anymore.  Oh well, I still managed to find some cool things!  I especially liked Grandma's butter churn and her bells.  I only broke one!  Sorry, Grandma!  She said it wasn't my fault though.

The next day, Grandma and Grandpa had to work.  Mommy, Daddy and me got ready and went up to Erie.  We were going to Presque Isle and were going to spend some time on the beach.  Well, it rained and got really cold so we ate our lunch under a pavilion and walked up on the beach for a picture and that was about it!  Boy, it sure was windy, rainy and cold!!  Brrrr.  Daddy said that all beaches aren't like that!  Later, we met Grandma and Grandpa for dinner at Ponderosa.  I had fun tasting everything on Grandpa's plate.  Then we went to Toys R Us and I got a booster seat and some really cool bubbles.  Grandma and Grandpa bought my birthday present too!  I'm not allowed to know what it was.

On Saturday, Daddy and Grandpa got the big tractor out.  Boy, it was a lot more noisy than that other machine Grandpa was riding.  I stayed with Mommy and Grandma.  There was a wagon hooked up on the back and we rode on it.  We took flowers to Great Grandpa Young's grave and then rode up in the woods.  I kept an eye on the tractor, my Daddy was riding on the big wheel!  I wasn't scared anymore so I took a nap!  Mommy said that they had a nice ride and saw 5 doe in the woods.

Sunday, we went to visit Great Grandma at her new place.  It was the first time we were there.  She lives in an assisted living place now called Colonial Terrace.  Mommy and Daddy said that she was getting forgetful and it was dangerous having her live by herself.  She looked good and very happy.  She thought I was just great!!  I sat on her lap and visited for quite a while.  Then we went to Wal-Mart and bought a new TV for Grandpa!!

Monday, was Memorial Day.  We had BBQ chicken from the fire hall.  Well, the grown ups did.  I had a hot dog!  Yummy!  We spent the day outside.  I sure do like roaming all over the big yard!  Playing in the dirt is fun!

Well, Tuesday morning we packed up and were on our way to Grammy and Pap's house.  I had a nice visit and we will see them again soon at my birthday party!

More visiting...Grammy and Pap-pap's House
May 28 - June 2, 2002
After a nice visit at Grandma and Grandpa Proper's we decided to stop in at Grammy and Pap-pap's for a few days.  Grammy was waiting for us when we got there and Pap was at work.  However, he ended up coming home because he had hurt the muscle in his arm and he had a really bad bruise. Because of the medicine Pap is on, it bled really bad.  His whole bicep was one DARK purple bruise.  So, he got to take one day off of work.  The doctor said he was okay and that it would just look bad for a long time.  Pap-pap and I worked all day on saying "pap-pap".  I think Daddy is quite tired of hearing it !  HA HA!!  I can kind of say it.  I do a pretty good job of imitating how it sounds, I just sound more like "bap-bap".

Oh, forgot to tell ya.  These grandparents didn't put all of their stuff away.  I quickly learned what I was and wasn't allowed to touch.  Although, I did try everyday.  Hoping they would forget.  Mommy said that I did pretty good.  Pap-pap's machine was just too tempting though!  Actually, I was much to busy rearranging the furniture in the kitchen!  Those chairs slid wherever I pushed them!!  That was fun!

We had a nice visit.  We got to go to lunch with Great Aunt Kitty and Uncle Harold.  I finally met my cousins, Renee, Erica and Kristy too!  I also got to go to breakfast and visit with Susie, Lauren and Larissa, Ronna, Debbie, Herb and Jean.  I got to try blueberry/chocolate chip pancakes!  Yummy!

Uncle JG came to see me on Saturday and we played in the yard with some of his toys from when he was a little boy.  Daddy really had to scrub them up.  My cousins Tim, Kim, Alli and Timmy came down to see me too.  I also visited with June and Bill form across the street.  I think Bill came over a few times to see me!  Mommy, Daddy and me also went to a Pirate Game but I'll save that for another entry.

Sunday morning we loaded up and headed for home!  I had a nice time and it was a nice vacation but I'm happy to be home again!

Cole's First Major League Ball Game
May 30, 2002
Mommy, Daddy and me decided to go to a Pirate Game today!  It was last minute decision, I think, because I was quietly playing with my books when Daddy swept me up and started putting on my socks and shoes!
Anyway, it was a day game at PNC Park.  Pirates vs. Cubs.  The Pirates lost 9-8 but it was a REALLY good game.  We even got to see a Grand Slam!  Unfortunately, it wasn't from the Pirates.  I got to sit in my own seat and I enjoyed visiting with the couple sitting behind Mommy.  They thought I was so good and cute.
We had a nice time and I got a really cool baseball.  Daddy said he is going to start collecting them for me.  Only from the teams I've seen though. We are going to another game in June.  It is in New York...the Mets vs. Braves.  I'm excited because my friend Sam is coming with us.
