June 2002 Journal

My first year of life is almost over!  Can you believe that my birthday is NEXT month?  We have no big plans for this month since we just got back from visiting all the grandparents!  Daddy would like to try and get me to the beach.  I'm dying to play in the sand, I'm kind of curious how it will taste?

I DO know that one big thing this month is my party and my friend Sam is coming to visit me!

Old Bedford Village
June 2, 2002
We were on our way home from Grammy & Pap-pap's and it was such a nice day that Mommy and Daddy decided that we should do something instead of spend the day in the car.  So, right before we got on the Turnpike, we stopped at Old Bedford Village.  It's a small town that is set up to portray the "colonial times".  They had old houses and stuff from as far back as the 1700's to the early 1900's.  It was neat.  I got to see some things that I had never seen before.  There was even one house where you could touch stuff.  Mommy just put me down and let me look around!  That was fun!

I'm 11 Months Old Today
June 6, 2002

I am really enjoying summer!  I get to swim in my pool and eat ice cream and Popsicles!  Mommy and Daddy are a little sad because their "little" baby is growing into a "big boy" way too fast for them!

I am getting much better at standing by myself but it's only for a few seconds.  I just get too excited and fall down.  I have fallen down a lot lately.  Mommy says it's because I'm getting braver and letting go of things.  I see that Mommy and Daddy don't hold on to things when they walk, so why can't I?  I'll figure that out soon enough.

I've been hearing this new word around the house.  I think it's something like, "NO!".  I'm not to sure what it means yet except that it usually gets me moving in another direction.  Oh well.

It won't be long before I can ride this!

I also LOVE to push things around the house.  If it's not bolted down or too heavy for me (although, I will still try), I will "vroom-vroom" it all over the place.

I am getting much bigger.  I weigh about 22 pounds and am around 32 inches tall!  My clothes for summer will fit me just right!  Mommy hopes they last the whole summer!  I have moved on to size 4 diapers too!  I'm not using any real "grown-up" words yet but I sure do love to talk.  I especially like when family or friends want to talk to me on the phone!  My "uncle" Mark taught me to "give 5".  He's quite proud of that!

I'm excited today because my cousin Nick is coming to visit.  I think he is bringing my Aunt and Uncle too!

Well, gotta go!

Owie...splinters!
June 10, 2002

I got my first set of splinters today!  Actually, I didn't even notice them...Daddy did.  I was perfectly happy just crawling around but I guess I had to have them taken out.  There were about 4 of them on my knee.  Daddy held me and put ice on my knee.  Boy, that was cold!  Mommy was doing something but I don't know what because I couldn't see anything.  Daddy and I were too busy playing and eating a popsicle.  Yummy, popsicles!  I have a few scratches on my knee but I'll survive.  Daddy said I was probably going to have many, many more of those!

Father's Day!
June 17, 2002

Happy First Father's Day to my Daddy!  He is the greatest!  He lets me play on his computer, crawl all over him and grab his nose!

Mommy and me made Daddy pancakes for breakfast.  They were yummy!  I had 4 of them...little ones!  I got Daddy a t-shirt, Simpson's lollipops and a picture collage of me and him.  He thought his gifts were great!

We went to Hershey Gardens for the day and had a nice time.  Daddy's got in for free!  There were a lot of Daddies there!

I would also like to wish my Grandpa, Pap-pap and Uncle Will a very happy day!

I Love You All!  *Cole

The Lemmons Family Are Here!
June 24 - 29th, 2002
I am so excited!  Why?  Well, my friend Sam (along with his Mommy, Jen and Daddy, Scott) have come ALL the way from the state of Kentucky to visit...for a WHOLE week!  They got here early on Sunday and Sam and I started to play right away!  He can walk now and boy is he fast!  I can't wait until I can do all the cool stuff I saw him doing!  He can pick up balls and walk around with them, kick them, and throw them!  He likes to read books too!  We had fun listening to all kinds of stories.  Mommy and Daddy thought it was pretty cool that he can even put them away!  I guess I have to learn that someday too!  Later we went out for lunch at Red Robin and then we called the Hartley's and the Fisher's and they all came over for dinner.  Mommy made pot roast, potatoes and carrots. Melonie brought biscuits and Jen brought carrot cake!  It was yummy!  Later, Sam and I swam around in my pool because it was really hot outside.  All the grown ups had fun too!  They were chasing each other all over the neighborhood with my "splash balls".  The neighbors probably thought they were crazy!

Monday, I stayed home with Daddy and Mommy went shopping in Hershey with Jen, Scott and Sam.  Sam and I got to play in the evening because his Mommy and Daddy went on a date so he got to stay with us.  He wasn't very happy at first but I gave him a Popsicle and that seemed to cheer him up!

Tuesday, Mommy, Daddy, me, Sam, Jen, Scott and Ryan went to Gettysburg and did some outlet shopping.  Boy, it was a hot one again.  I had fun in the toy store.  There were pigs crawling all over the floor.  They were funny.  I got a really funny caterpillar story.  It has a "real" caterpillar in the middle of it.  He's funny because he's trying to think of what he will be when he grows up and he comes up with some really funny ideas!  Later, we all met at the Outback Steakhouse to celebrate Melonie's 29th birthday!  We had a great time!  She liked all of her presents and her dessert!

Wednesday, Mommy, Daddy, me, Sam, Jen, Scott and Ryan went to Pottsville, PA to tour the Yuengling Brewery.  That is the beer that everyone around here drinks...minus me, Sam and Jen.  It was blistering HOT there!!  The tour was free and everyone got 2 free drinks at the end.  They gave me and Sam some "beer" of our own...birch beer!!

Today is Thursday and we are getting ready to go to New York!  A new state for me to visit!  We are going to Shea Stadium to watch the New York Mets play the Atlanta Braves!  So, I will add a new entry for that tomorrow and tell you how it went!  Also, we have lots of pictures to add, we just have to get the time!

Gotta go get ready!  Did I tell you that I am having sooo much fun this week?!?!?!?!

My First Trip to New York...Mets vs. Braves...RAIN DELAY?!?!
June 27, 2002
The whole gang went today!  Jen & Darrin Hartley, Melonie & Ryan Fisher, Jen, Scott & Sam and Mommy, Daddy and me!  We were supposed to have a 15 passenger van to take to the game but when Darrin went to pick it up they told us that you aren't allowed to take that size of vans into NY!!  WHAT??  They were really apologetic and tried to give us a better deal on the van, like cutting the cost in half and paying our subway fares into the state but it just wouldn't have worked with having me and Sam and all of our coolers of food.  Oh well, we managed, we took our car and Sam's car!  I rode with the boys and Sam rode with all the girls.  I slept most of the way until we stopped right before the Holland Tunnel, so I could eat!  Boy, New York sure is a busy city.  I don't know how Daddy didn't get lost but Ryan was an excellent navigator.  Since I was sitting backwards, it was my job to keep an eye out for the girls and make sure that they didn't lose us!  Jen did a great job of keeping up!

Anyway, we finally get to the stadium.  Boy, was it big and blue!  Melonie was all excited because the Mets are her ALL TIME FAVORITE!  She had a jersey and everything!  We parked our car and set out blankets so Sam and I could play while the grown ups ate!  Sam and I had fun exploring the cars and getting dirty!!  We started to get ready to go in and watch batting practice.  Now, Jen L's. favorite team are the Braves and she sure did hear about that when she put her jersey on in the parking lot!  It was funny though!  People just kept telling me and Darrin that we took a wrong turn somewhere?!  We were both wearing Pirates stuff!

Well, we got in the stadium and the grown ups got umbrellas for free!  ( kind of ironic, I'll tell you why in a moment)  We found our seats and then we went down to the field to watch batting practice.  Melonie was yelling at all the players, calling them by name as if she knew them...(Melonie is sooo funny).  "It's my birthday"  she kept saying!  The player picked up the ball and gave it to the usher and he gave a ball to me!  He was really funny because he tried to hide it and make me pick which hand it was in and I guessed it right!!  So, now I felt a little guilty because Melonie wanted a ball too!  So we all helped yell it was her birthday, so the next time the player gave her the ball and wished her a happy birthday!  Then Daddy took me over with Jen and Sam, they were visiting with the Braves players that were signing autographs.  So, Tim Spooneybarger the Braves pitcher signed my ball.  Sam had him and someone else sign his ball.

Well, right before batting practice was over it started to rain...and rain hard!  They had to cover the field with this HUGE white cover and delayed the game. We were really lucky because our seats were under the cover along the third base line so we got to stay bone dry! It was supposed to start at 7.  They delayed it only for an hour, so that wasn't so bad.  What happened next, well I couldn't tell you because I woke up from a little cat nap that I was taking and I wasn't happy!  So, Mommy and Daddy took me out so I could calm down and eat something.  We got back in for the bottom of the first, but we missed the homerun by the Braves.  Needless to say, Jen L. was happy and Melonie was not!!  I had fun watching all the people and visiting with the people sitting behind us.  People talk differently in New York.  Anyway, we got to the end of the third inning and it started to rain again, even harder than the first one!!  It was thundering and lightning too!  Daddy got a picture of everyone with their umbrellas up and the rain was coming down in sheets.  Whatever that means but everyone was talking about it!  We waited for awhile but eventually they cancelled the game.  It was a bummer but we all had a good time anyways.  We get to trade our tickets in for another game.  So the good thing is that we get to go again!

*** Cole's First Steps!!
June 28, 2002
So, Sam and I were talking and I asked him all about this walking business.  He told me it was pretty easy and that you just have to be brave and let go of what you are holding on to.  I wasn't too sure about that so I decided to watch him for a few days and you know what?  He does make it look pretty simple.  I started out this morning just letting go of the couch and took about 2 steps to the stool.  Then I went from the stool to the end table.  Mommy saw me and she clapped!  I got a little excited and fell down.  It didn't hurt that bad so I just kept doing it all day long.  After dinner, when Grandma and Grandpa Proper got here, I decided to try again.  This time I was able to take 3 steps.  Then Daddy stood me in front of him and I WALKED to him!!  He was sooo excited!  Mommy came running in from the kitchen and Grandma came running too!  So, we played the "stand Cole in front of me and walk back game" for a little bit.  I was okay for awhile but it sure did tire me out.  I am just going to keep practicing and pretty soon I will be moving all over the place, just like Sam!  "Hmmm?  I wonder what other things I will be able to get into once I master this walking thing?"

Cole's "First" First Birthday Party!
June 29, 2002
I had my first birthday party today!  Mommy, Daddy, Grandma P. and Grandpa P. were busy all morning getting ready.  It was hard work keeping up with them.  Anyway, we went to our friend Ryan Fisher's parents house.  They have a nice house with a back deck and in ground swimming pool.  Mommy said that I had already "unofficially" been in it.  She and Daddy were there last 4th of July...only 2 days before I was born!

Anyway, everyone started showing up around one o'clock.  Who was there?  Well, let me see if I can remember:  Mommy, Daddy and me, of course!  Amanda Deimler, Melonie & Ryan Fisher; Teri, Bernie, Alex & Drew Martinelli; Scott, Jen & Sam Lemmons; Jen Hartley; Drew, Louise, Derrick & Julia Ceiseilka; Uncle JG and Grandma & Grandpa Proper.

We cooked burgers and hot dogs and had other tasty treats along with cake and ice cream for dessert.

Mommy helped me open presents and I got all kinds of cool things.  I got 3 outfits, a block sorter, a book, a Tonka truck, a Mega Block dump truck (it's big!), a HUGE Gumball Swirl Castle ball gym (it barely fits in the basement!!), a zoo play set, a "big boy" chair, a savings bond, a toy helicopter and car keys with remote, a gift certificate for Toys R Us, a teether, a Sesame Street Bathtub Puzzle toy, sand toys, and a play piano.

I wanted to be sure to Thank everyone for all the cool gifts and for coming to my party and a HUGE thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Fisher for letting us use their pool!
