October
2002 Journal
Well,
it's Fall. Time for cool breezes, colorful trees,
pumpkins, hayrides and trick or treating! We
are doing a lot this month, so I will promise to do a better
job at updating this month. I'm just a pretty busy kid
and it's take a lot of time and patience to sit here and work
on this site when there are so many exciting things to
explore. So,
check in often and see what I'm up to.

Pumpkin
World, USA
October 1
, 2002 |
Mommy, Daddy
and me went to Pumpkin World today. It's only a few
minutes from our house, near Hershey. Anyway, they have A
LOT of pumpkins there. Big ones, small ones, teeny tiny
ones, and gourds of all shapes and sizes too. I had fun
walking around looking at all the cool stuff. I was just
happy to be outside. I love being outside. We bought
one pumpkin for the front porch and a few gourds for me to play
with. Daddy said we are going to an actual pumpkin patch
to pick our own pumpkin for me to carve later this month.
I can't wait!

"Aunt"
Jenny Visits
October
4-5 , 2002 |
|
"Aunt"
Jenny came out East this weekend. She was visiting a
friend, Todd, in Carlisle, and stopped over here too! I
was happy to see her. She was impressed by my walking
abilities since she last saw me in July! She thinks I am
soo cute! We had a nice visit and we went shopping at
Target and she got me a "My Big Book of Animals"
book. It is really nice. It is just like my favorite
truck book. I like it because the pages and pictures are
big and I can turn them all by myself! Thanks
"Aunt" Jenny! Please come visit again soon and
bring Jessica with you!

Game
Night at The Hartley's
October
5
, 2002 |
|
Tonight, me,
Daddy (yea! He was home from work in time!)
"Uncle" Mark and Mommy went over to Jen and Darrin
Hartley's to hang out, eat and play games! They have a
really nice apartment...lots of room for me to run and stuff to
get into!! Daddy said that you can tell that they don't
have kids yet! It was especially fun running from the
living room, taking the candles off the table, to the kitchen,
trying to get a drink out of the beer bottles in the recycling
bin...(I'm not sure why I wasn't allowed to do that! I was
thirsty and it was going to waste!)...and watching which
grown-up was going to come after me. I must have been
wearing them out because they all kept taking turns! Ha
Ha. I met a new friend there, his name was Nicholas, he
kept giving me his Doritos. Plus, Janelle and Brian were
excited to see me because they hadn't seen me since Jen &
Darrin's wedding which was last November!! Janelle really
thought it was funny when I kept giving her the tissues that
just "kept coming out of the box"! I like game
night because I get to stay up WAY past my bedtime!
"Hey Mommy, when's the next one?"

I'm
15 Months Old Today!
October
6
, 2002 |
Today, I am
15 months old! Can you believe it? What have I been
up to? Hmmm? There seems like so much, I hope I can
remember it all. I am learning to go "down" the
stairs...a safe way. Daddy doesn't like the way I prefer
to do it. Stepping down while a grown up holds my hands,
so I'm trying to go backwards. I am doing pretty good but
Mommy has to remind me to turn around.
Daycare is fun. I am enjoying it a lot more than when
Mommy first took me. I have made some friends and LOVE
playing outside with the bubbles and cars. They have these
big red cars that you sit in and make go with your feet! I
only cry a little bit when Mommy drops me off, but it's just for
show. I wouldn't want her thinking I didn't care she was
leaving. But don't tell her that!
I am learning more words. I understand a lot more of them
than I can actually express. But I try a new one about
every few weeks. I like to point up and say "sss".
No one knows what it means, so it's my little inside joke.
I have around 8 words in my "own"
language. They
are:
|
- ne-ne
= food, drink, feed me I'm hungry/thirsty.
- dun =
I'm done, take my plate or I'll toss it off the tray!
- dank-ew
= Thank you.
- duck =
truck, car, van, anything with wheels
- ello =
Hello
- issth
= Fish
- Dad-dee
= Daddy, Mommy, people
- ssh =
shoe

I love
reading and I am starting to like sitting with Mommy or Daddy
and reading a book together. But I am usually just too
busy for that. Right before I go "night-night"
is a good time for stories.
I have also learned that I can start to resist some of these
things my parents are trying to make me do. Eating is
becoming more challenging, as I just don't feel like it
sometimes. Especially, lunch and dinner. I love
breakfast though, can't get enough pancakes, waffles, or
eggs! Plus, this whole diaper changing thing is for the
birds! I just don't like it anymore! I try and try
to wiggle my way out but Mommy always seems to win! I'll
keep trying though.
Well, I better go. I have more updating to do. I
have a doctors appointment on Wednesday so you'll be hearing
from me then and we'll see how much I've grown since my
birthday!

Lake
Tobias
October
6 , 2002 |
What a busy
weekend we are having. Today, me, Mommy, Daddy, Amanda and
"Uncle" Mark went to Lake
Tobias. We had such a nice time. The weather was
perfect. I saw all kinds of animals...up close! We
saw ostrich (Amanda didn't like those, actually, she was quite
disturbed by them!), emu, whitetail deer (Daddy can't wait for
hunting season!), yak, buffalo, sheep, goats, and elk. I
even got to feed the elk! They came right up to the bus
and ate from my hand! I thought this was the coolest thing
ever! I was laughing so hard because they have really long
tongues and would tickle my fingers! Mommy held me close
and made sure they didn't get me. I really liked the bus
ride too. I didn't have to sit in my car seat and there
wasn't a roof on it! We went really fast at times too and
boy was it bumpy!
Then we went to the petting zoo. Amanda and
"Uncle" Mark must have been having a good time in
there because they were laughing REALLY hard, almost
crying. They told me to stay away from a certain goat
because he was "looking for love". I didn't know
what they were talking about so I just had fun running all over
the place petting the goats, sheep, llamas and a camel.
One of the goats tried to eat my hair!! But Mommy rescued
me just in time...but Daddy wasn't so lucky. He had one
following him around and was trying to eat his pants!!!!
We had a good time and laughed a lot. I hope we go there
again sometime. The best part was stopping for ice cream
on the way home. Daddy and I shared some pumpkin ice
cream...it was yummy!

I
am full of all kinds of tricks! Fortunately, for all of you,
our new camera takes video clips!
I hope that
it doesn't take too long for you to download. Grammy &
Pap-pap are going to have to let us know if they can even use this
feature on Web TV. If not, they'll have to visit someone with

My
15 Month Check-Up
October
9 , 2002 |
Today, I
went to see Dr. Besselman for my 15 month check-up. I did
pretty good for the most part, but I was pretty tired. We
were late getting seen because he was held up at the
hospital. Probably checking in on some new babies!
Anyway, everything looks good. My lungs, heart, stomach,
ears, nose and eyes all checked out well. I weigh 24lbs.
2ozs. and am 32 3/4 inches long. I grew a whole inch
since summer!! ( So, I still remain in the 50th percentile
for my weight and the 90th for my height). Dr. Besselman
told Mommy and Daddy that I will slow down now, but only with my
growing!! That must have been a joke because they were all
laughing. Well, we weren't laughing for long, I had to get
2 shots!!!! OUCH!!! One for mumps/measles and the
other was a flu shot. I only got a half dose of it and I
have to go back in November for the second dose. Dr.
Besselman thought it would be wise for me to have it since I am
going to daycare. Daddy and Mommy didn't really have any
questions, just about my silly teeth and how they are coming
in. He said that he sees that every once in awhile.
Also, about my not eating like I used to. That is all
normal too. He told me I was doing good and appeared to be
a very happy and healthy little boy! He must be
smart...because I AM!!

Swimming
Lessons
October
16 , 2002 |
Today, I
went to the YMCA with Daddy. We went for my first
"swimming lesson". Let me tell you, I have done
better things in my day! First, the teacher made Daddy get
in the water. Well, I could already tell by the glorious
look on his face that the water must have been a
"balmy" 60 degrees!! And next, they expected me
to get in and be happy about it?!?! I don't think
so! The water was cold! Well, colder than I'm used
to in my tubby at home. We had to kick our feet, reach for
toys, lay on our backs (with Daddy's help of course) and blow
bubbles in the water!! That blowing bubbles part was hard
for me, but Daddy sure was good at it! And FUNNY!!!
That was about the only thing that made me happy. I felt
sorry for Daddy because he looked as if he "wanted" me
to have a good time. Boy, was I glad when our time was
up! I've been told that I have to go again next
week. I hope I like it better and if not, I guess I'll
have to try better to "relay" that message!!!
Wish me luck!

Weeee...Gymboree!
October
19 , 2002 |
|
Today, Mommy
& me went to Gymboree!!! What is
"Gymboree"? Well, it is this really cool place
that has all this stuff that I can crawl, climb, slide down,
jump on and rock on! Just to name a few. The
teacher...sorry I can't remember her name...but she always
remembers mine! Anyway, she is really nice. Every
once in awhile she will ring the jingle bells and then we know
it's time to do something new. Today, we talked about
"over" and "under". I had to lift the
ball over my head and crawl under stuff. Oh yea, there is
this really colorful and HUGE blanket thing called the
parachute. We get to "shake, shake, shake the
parachute" and then "pop, pop, pop the bubbles
out". Then we (the kids), get to ride on it while the
grown-ups spin it around and around. That is fun.
However, I'm not a big fan of running under it when it goes
up. I find something else to do then. My favorite
thing there so far is the rocking horse. Two people can
ride on it. My friend, Derrick goes to Gymboree too with
his Daddy. We like to ride the horse together. I
also like to climb up the slide and turn around and go back
down. Weeee! And, they have all kinds of balls at
Gymboree, big ones, little ones, light ones, heavy ones, ones
with holes in them and ones with colors all over them and even a
great big, giant, huge one that I can ride on while Mommy rolls
it around. She is sure that I don't fall off though.
Mommy is going to see if we can get some pictures taken when we
go to put on here. Daddy hasn't gotten to go with me yet,
but when he starts his new job he will. I hope he will be
ready for a workout because Mommy and I are both ready for a nap
when class is over!!

Derrick's
2nd Birthday Party
October
19 , 2002 |
Mommy and me
went to Derrick's house today for his birthday party. He
was turning 2 years old!! I had a good time. We ate
pizza and cake. It was an Elmo cake! Derrick showed
me all his new toys. His favorite was his new Tonka riding
toy. I liked it too because you can push it and it has
buttons to push that make sounds. As you all know, those
are two of my favorite things. Mommy had a good time
too. She saw a lot of nice toys that Derrick got
too. She and Louise (Derrick's mommy) were talking about
Santa Claus bringing some of that stuff to my house. I
think that would make Derrick sad if this "Santa" dude
brought his toys to my house!?!?!?

HersheyPark
in the Dark
October
20 , 2002 |
What FUN we
had tonight!! Me, Mommy, Daddy, "Uncle" Mark and
Amanda went to Hershey Park in the Dark. They were having
special events for Halloween. This was the first night
that I got to show off my costume. I was Dracula! I
got all kinds of compliments on my costume and how cute I
was. "Uncle" Mark and Amanda were impressed too
and they had fun watching everyone point and notice me
throughout the park. Anyway, first we rode through
Chocolate World. I believe that this was my third time on
the ride but it looks new to me every time. My favorite
thing is the cow. It mooo's when you go by. After
that we got some chocolate and then I was able to do some
"trick or treating". People were giving me all
kinds of candy!! It was cool. Mommy says I can't eat
it all at once or I'll get sick. She sounded as if she was
speaking from experience! HA HA! Anyway, after we
came out of Chocolate World, we watched the hot-air balloons
launch. That was way cool! They even had one shaped
like a fish! We rode all kinds of rides. They all
had special names for Halloween. We rode the
"Giant Squeal" (Giant Wheel), "Night Mares"
(carrousel), "Monster Macks" (Convoy), "Bats in
the Belfry" (Kissing Tower), "Transylvania Turnpike Antiques
and Sports Cars" (I got to drive!!), "Creepy
Crawlers" (Ladybug), and "Scary Derry Dip" (Fun
Slide). That last one was my favorite!! Daddy and me
rode it twice!! Plus, we watched a dolphin and seal
show!! The grown-ups rode some rides that I wasn't allowed
to go on yet. They looked way too scary for me
anyways!! Amanda wasn't very thrilled about some of them
either but "Uncle" Mark was giving her a hard time
about it.
After the park closed at 9:00, we all went out for dinner at the
Warrick Hotel in Hummelstown. I had a yummy grilled cheese
sandwich and some of Amanda's French fries!! It was a late
night but sooo much FUN!!!

Happy
Early Halloween!
October
22 , 2002 |
Halloween
will be here soon! I have already gotten to show off my
costume at Hershey Park! I got all kinds of compliments!!
(Another job well done by my Mommy!)
We are going to a Halloween Parade next week in Hummelstown and then
I have trick or treating in my neighborhood on Halloween
Night! I can't wait, it should be lots of fun!
Like I promised...I have had lots of updates this month and many
more are to come. I'll be sure to tell you all about our trip
to visit Auntie Atina, Uncle Will and cousin Nickoli in
Virginia. They moved to a new house near Virginia
Beach!! Mommy, Daddy and me are going on a hayride and pumpkin
patch tomorrow, so I'm sure there will be lots of pics from
that! Then there is the parade and trick or treating like I
had mentioned before! My oh my, has October been a busy month
for us Proper's!!!

Fall
Harvest at Ashcombe Greenhouse
October
23 , 2002 |
Me, Mommy
and Daddy went to Fall Harvest today. It sure was cold
outside but we had a nice time regardless. We finally,
after waiting in line for some time, went on a hayride. I
liked watching the horses, "Bonnie & Queenie",
pull the wagon. Our driver, Bob, didn't even sit down
while he drove us around the corn field! Next, we looked
at some of their animals and then went to the pumpkin
patch. I was having fun in there until I fell on a
pumpkin!! OUCH!!! We walked around for a bit and
then I played in some hay with a bunch of other kids. It
was hard to walk in there but I had fun going down the
slide!! Later, Daddy picked out 2 pumpkins for us to take
home. I didn't want to go back in there and fall
again!! Mommy gave me an apple to snack on! It was
YUMMY! I was pretty tired and fell asleep on the car ride
home.

Trip
to Virginia Beach (Aunt Atina, Uncle Will & Nickoli's
House)
October
24th-27th , 2002 |
Thursday:
Mommy, Daddy and me decided to take a long weekend and visit my
Aunt, Uncle and cousin! We haven't seen them in a long
time. Nickoli is now 6 months old and the last time we saw
him he was only 1 month old!! We left after Mommy got home
from work on Thursday. It was a long drive down, it took
us around 6 hours! I was a good boy though! I loved
watching the lights and all the big trucks that would whiz by
us. I only slept for about an hour on the way down.
I was soo excited when we got there that I didn't want to go to
bed. So, Mommy and I laid down together until I finally
fell asleep around 4:00...AM!!!! Mommy said that I was a
bed hog and she's glad that we don't do that on a regular
basis!! I was happy all snuggled up beside her.
Daddy got stuck sleeping on the couch...sorry Daddy!
Friday:
Uncle Will had to go to work, so I just spent the day exploring
the new house and all the stuff I could get into. Nickoli,
only being 6 months old, isn't on the move yet. Needless
to say, I helped Aunt Atina to child proof!! I had fun
playing outside. Nickoli has a big back yard that is
fenced in that he will get to play in! While I was
napping, Aunt Atina and Daddy went shopping for a baby gate and
put that up. My fun of Mommy or who ever chasing me off of
the steps was over :(. Oh well.
Saturday:
We all got up and ready and went down to Virginia Beach.
It is only about 10 minutes from their house. Uncle Will
knew just where to go because he used to go there a lot as a
little boy. It was a little breezy by the ocean. I
had to wear my coat. Daddy said that the ocean was called
the Atlantic. I had fun chasing the birds, they would let
me get really close before they would fly away. There were
seashells everywhere! Mommy and me picked up and looked at
a few of them. Mommy and I walked down to the ocean and
when Daddy was taking our picture the waves washed up farther
than we thought they could and got Mommy's shoes all wet!
Mommy let me walk down by myself and I got my pants, shoes and
socks wet!! (It was a good thing she brought a whole extra
outfit.) Mommy took those off and let me stick my toes in
the ocean! It was cold and foamy. Also, while we
were there a HUGE noisy Navy jet flew over our heads! That
was awesome!! I got to see some F-16's too! They
were sooo fast, that they were almost gone before you heard
them!
We went for lunch at The Purple Cow! That was a neat
place. I had corn dog nuggets and french
fries...yummy. Aunt Atina had a purple milkshake!!
She let me try some of it and it turned my tongue
PURPLE!!! After we were done eating we went back down to
the beach and walked along the stretch of shops and got some souvenirs
and took some more pictures. It was a long fun day.
Sunday:
Mommy, Daddy and I got up early (really early for me, since my
body didn't understand the whole day lights saving
thing!!). We said our good-byes and were off to Norfolk to
tour the Naval Shipyard. I'll write a new entry for
that! Daddy may have to help me since I fell asleep.
|
Tour
of Naval Shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia
October
27 , 2002 |
Daddy, Mommy
and me went to Norfolk after leaving Aunt Atina & Uncle
Will's house. They only live about 5 minutes from
there!!! While we were there we did lots of fun
stuff. First, we took a cruise of the world's largest
naval yard. There were lots and lots of Navy ships there,
but sadly, no aircraft carriers. But we did get to see
nuclear subs, the world's most advanced combat ship, and even
the USS Cole (no it's not named after me, but wouldn't that be
cool?). The Cole was the ship that was bombed by
terrorists in Yemen last year. But it's all fixed
now. After the cruise, we got to go aboard a real
battleship, the USS Wisconsin. It's inactive now, but
served in WWII, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and even the Gulf
War. The ship is huge and I had fun walking all around it.

Halloween
Parade in Hummelstown, PA.
October
28 , 2002 |
|
Daddy,
Mommy, Amanda, her Mommy and me went to the Hummelstown
Halloween Parade tonight. I got all dressed up in my
costume! Oh my was it cold though, and Mommy had me
dressed in layers. It wasn't long until I had to put on my
jackets!!! (Yes, I said...jackets). This was my very
first parade. I really liked it. My favorite things
there were the fire trucks! There were soo many of
them. I would clap every time one went by. They had
their lights going and everything!! My second favorite
thing was getting to sit on Daddy's shoulders! I could see
really far from up there! Plus, people kept throwing candy
at us! Amanda collected some for me but I couldn't really
eat any of it, so I shared with Mommy and Daddy on the way
home! Although, it was a cold night....we had fun!
|
Trick
or Treat!!
October
31, 2002 |
|

"Blah,
blah, blah...I vant all your candy!"
|
|
Mommy and
Daddy took me out in the neighborhood tonight for some
"trick or treating". It was dark out and a
little cool but I had so many layers on, it didn't even bother
me! Daddy showed me how to go up to the
house, knock on the door, say, "trick or treat"
and let the people "ooh & ahh" over me.
Then...this is the exciting part...THEY GIVE YOU CANDY!!!
We ran up and down our street! There were lots of kids
running around. My friend, Nickoli and his Mommy, and I
went to a few of the houses together! I'm not sure what
his costume was. Daddy said it was something
"Russian"...since Nickoli was adopted from
there. So, that's kind of cool. Also, I learned that
you can't go to the same house more than once. Mommy said
that is a written rule in "trick or treating"
etiquette. So, much to learn!! After we went down
our street, we went back home and I helped to hand out candy to
other kids. Uncle Mark came running up to our house after
he ran out of candy! Silly Uncle Mark not having
enough! I guess he will have some "tricks"
played on him!! I was allowed to eat one piece of my candy
before getting my bath and going to bed. What a fun
night...I can't believe that I have to wait another WHOLE year
to do that again!! Hope
everyone had as nice of a Halloween as we all did here!
