December 2002 Journal

The last month of 2002 is here already!  I am looking forward to celebrating Mommy's birthday and Daddy will be turning 30 this month!!

Daddy and Grandpa will be going hunting.  I will get to play in the snow, get my first haircut and go see Santa Claus!

Christmas will be fun this year because everyone is coming to my house.  That way Mommy doesn't have to send Santa special directions on how and where to find me!

Happy Holidays  Everyone!!

Happy 32nd Birthday Mommy!
December 1 , 2002
Happy Birthday Mommy!  We were at Grandparents Proper and had a pretty quiet day.  Since Daddy's special day is coming up we will be celebrating tomorrow with cake and ice cream!  Yummy!

Daddy and me gave Mommy her stuff early.  I got her Rudolf (from the movie) ornaments and Beauty & The Beast Enchanted Christmas DVD.

***Let It Snow ***
December 1 , 2002
The snow dumped about 12 inches on us.  Daddy bundled me all up and took me outside to help plow the driveway.  I got to help Daddy drive the tractor.  Boy, there was a lot of snow.  We just kept going back and forth across the driveway and the road.  Then we even went out into the field!!  That was fun!

Aunt Susan had bought me a sled so Grandma pulled me around on that for a while...that was fun too!  I could have stayed out longer but the wind was pretty cold.  We came inside and had some hot chocolate!  Well, the grown-ups did...I had "warm" chocolate!

Making Cookies with Grandma!
December 1 , 2002
After our fun day in the snow...it was time to make the infamous "date cookies".  Daddy and Grandpa cut the dates.  Mommy and me chopped the nuts.  I really did get to help because Grandpa has this neat machine that you hit and it chops the nuts!  I had fun doing that.  Then grandma cooked the dates and rolled out the dough.  I helped her flatten it out.  You just have to pat it a little bit.  She said I was good at doing that.

We rolled them up in saran wrap and put them in the freezer for closer to Christmas.  Daddy said that they will bring some to our house when they come later this month!  I can't wait because I do like an occasional cookie!!

A Hunting We Will Go...
December 2 , 2002
Daddy and Grandpa are all geared up for the first day of deer season.  They got all dressed up in their orange hats, gloves and coats.  It was still pretty snowy out and cold but they didn't seem to mind.   Daddy got a doe, but it wasn't that big.  Grandpa said it's a good thing he only had to shoot twice, or all that would be left would be ground meat!  Daddy is getting steaks and bologna and jerky made...yummy!

Celebrating Birthdays
December 2 , 2002
Grandma made a German chocolate cake with coconut and pecan frosting for Mommy and Daddy's birthday.  We had a special spaghetti dinner too!  I helped Mommy blow up balloons.  She popped one and boy, was that loud!  The balloons said, Happy 30th on them for Daddy!  He sure was surprised when he came home from hunting and saw them.

Daddy opened his gifts from me and Mommy.  We got him a pair of khaki pants, red shirt, green sweater, Homer Simpson Action Figure and Homer Talking Coasters.  They say, "Mmmm....beer" when you put your drink on them.  I thought those were pretty funny!

Happy Birthday Daddy!!  You're 30!!
December 3 , 2002
Happy Birthday Daddy!  I love you!  You are the bestest Daddy in the WHOLE world!  I hope that you had a good time at your party yesterday and that you liked your gifts.

Daddy and Grandpa went out hunting again today, after it got a little warmer outside!  It sure was pretty cold. Only 14 below zero.  They weren't as lucky as they were yesterday though!  Hopefully, Grandpa can get one this weekend!

My First Haircut
December 3 , 2002
Grandma gave me my first haircut today!  Heck, I didn't even know I was getting one until it was over!  I was busy playing on the bathroom counter....hmmm, I was kind of wondering why Mommy was taking my picture.  Anyways, Grandma cut across the front.  It's nice being able to see now with my hair getting in my eyes.  Then she just cut straight across the back.  I would have to say that I do look mighty handsome now.  So, I guess you can say it was a success.  I didn't fuss at all.  Mommy was able to save some small pieces for the baby book.  She said it was hard because my hair is so light and fine.

It must have been the day for haircuts because Mommy had Grandma cut hers too!!

First Snowstorm in Harrisburg
December 5 , 2002
Boy oh boy, are we getting some snow.  I would have to say we have around 6 inches so far!  It is still snowing at right now it is around 3 o'clock in the afternoon.  It has been snowing ALL day!  Daddy had to be very careful going to work and Mommy isn't going in today.  They told her not to bother and we weren't going to go anyway.  Mommy bundled me all up and we went outside to shovel the driveway and sidewalk.  That was this morning...you can hardly tell now.  Mommy said that Daddy will have to finish when he gets home.  I had fun walking down the sidewalk and through the yard.  I would get stuck in some of the snow banks and Mommy would have to help me up.  But I was having fun!  We were outside for about 45 minutes.  We came in and had a hot lunch and I took my nap!  Maybe Daddy will take me out later when he gets home!

I'm 17 Months Old Today!
December 6 , 2002
I am 17 months old today!  I really don't feel much older but time seems to fly by so quickly.  I haven't been weighed and measured in a few months but Mommy seems to think that I've had another growth spurt.  My size 18 months pants fit much better than they did a few weeks ago!  I still only have the four teeth on top and two on the bottom, however, we think that I may be getting some new ones soon.  I chew a lot on my fingers.  But you know me, it could be weeks before anything shows up and then WHAM-O, I get hit with four all at once.

Some new words added to my vocabulary are:  "ba?" (with inflection) for bye, "gock" for sock and "gee" for baby.  I use the word "guck" for truck now and "duck" for ...duck.  Mommy says that you really have to pay attention to know which one I mean.  Also, I am now using "Dad-dee" for Daddy.  If I hear him, I'll say it but I'm not to the point of calling for him yet.  Mommy has yet to hear her name.  Some things that Mommy and Daddy have thought they "heard" me say are:  "here ya go", "buh" for book, and "ba" for ball.  Lately, I haven't been using my words, "nay-nay" for food or drink.  I just kind of say "mmm?" and walk to the refrigerator.  I don't think Mommy is a big fan of that.  Oh well, I'm sure it's just a phase.

Speaking of phases, I'm having a problem with sleeping through the night.  It started the night before we left for Thanksgiving.  I wake up crying...not just little cries from when I was a little baby.  Big, huge, loud, sobbing cries.  Also, it didn't help going away from my bed for a week and I wasn't feeling well to top it off.  I slept through one night at Grandma Proper's and one night here, since we've been home.  I have a feeling that Mommy and Daddy aren't going to play this game with me too much longer.  I'm okay once Mommy or Daddy picks me up and fall asleep on them right away.  They know they shouldn't come in and get me but after an hour, I guess they are tired of hearing it.  Hopefully, we will be able to report next month, that this phase in my little life is over.

Santa?  Guess I'll Admire Him From A Distance!
December 10 , 2002
Mommy and Daddy took me to the mall to see Santa.  I've heard great things about this guy and I can even show you which ornament is him on the tree!  Plus, I enjoy watching him on TV.  But boy, is he kind of intimidating up close!  I'm not to sure what I think about this jolly old elf.  He's a lot bigger than I thought and loud too!  He has this big white puffy thing stuck on his face!  I don't know how he can see around that AND his hat!!  I'm sure he must be okay because Mommy and Daddy don't seem to be upset by him...PLUS, he gave me candy.  No one told me I HAD to sit on his lap!!  Forget that!  I'll just admire Mr. HoHo from a distance.

Chuckee Cheese...What A Fun Place!
December 15 , 2002
Aunt Jenny, Jessica and Todd were in to visit me today.  We went for lunch at Chuckee Cheese!  I had never been there before.  I'm still a bit small for the place but I was able to ride some things.  My favorites were the blue truck, Chuckee Cheese delivery van, the helicopter (it had flashing red lights), the music maker and Whack-a-Mole!!

We had some good pizza and then watched Jessica play a lot of games.  She won sooooo many tickets.  Well over 1,000 of them!!  Daddy won some too, at Skeeball.  I got to play that too!  Jessica won a lava lamp for her room and she got me a Bob The Builder ball.  I really like and have been practicing my kicking with it.

We had a nice time and will go back when I am a bit bigger.

Village Greens Christmas Spectacular
December 15 , 2002
Mommy, Daddy and me went to Strasburg tonight for the Christmas display at Village Greens miniature golf course.  It was dark outside and a bit chilly but I was bundled up real good.  We saw over 100,000 twinkling lights and sculptures.  Oh, and that Santa guy was there again.  He's just everywhere these days!!  Anyway, my favorite thing was this fence they had pipes hanging from and when you dragged a stick along them as you walked, being sure to hit each one, it played a song.   I believe it was "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear."  Well, that is what Daddy said it was called.  It was the first time I've ever heard that song!  Also, there was a LIVE snowman walking around.  I stayed back for a little while until I was sure I wanted to check him out.  He was talking about building snowman so I paid close attention to him.  I got to see live sheep and donkeys at the Nativity too!  I wanted to play with Baby Jesus but Mommy wouldn't let me!

It was a fun night and we will probably come back next year.

Our 2nd Annual Christmas Party!
December 20 , 2002
We had another Christmas party this year and it was exciting because even more people got to come!  Let me see if I can remember who was in attendance.  There were us Proper's, Uncle Mark, Amanda Deimler, Mike Douglas, The Martinelli's (Teri, Bernie, Alex & Drew), Melonie & Ryan Fisher, Jen & Darrin Hartley and Aunt Jenny Baker & Todd (her new boyfriend).  We had a FULL house!  Mommy made different kinds of pasta, sauce and two salads.  The Hartley's brought dessert, Amanda brought dessert, Uncle Mark brought some wine ( I wasn't allowed to have any of that!), The Fisher's brought home-made bread and fresh cheese and The Martinelli's brought all kinds of yummy cookies.  Needless to say, there was plenty of food!  Mommy and Daddy actually got a big table set up and a little one in the living room so everyone had some place to sit.  It was really nice.  I got to sit at the big table with Alex and Drew!!  They are fun to play with and I wish they would come over more often.

After dinner everyone exchanged gifts.  They all brought a unisex gift and drew numbers to see who would pick first.  They could pick from the pile of packages or TAKE one that someone else had already chosen!!  It was fun to watch them steal from each other.  Uncle Mark said that his family plays this game at their reunion but they get far more nasty with stealing.  I think everyone in this group are too good of friends to do that!!  Anyway, everyone got some nice things as you can tell in the photo gallery.  I did pretty good with getting the pics up this month.  It's hard when we are soo busy and there are soo many.

It was a long but fun night.  I got to stay up way past my bedtime.  But I was excited to go to bed because Grandparents Proper AND Wiles are coming in the morning!

Operation Clearfield Street!!
December 21 , 2002
We had quite the exciting Saturday afternoon here on Clearfield Street.  Grandma & Grandpa Proper had just arrived around 10 ( I had just gotten up and was having breakfast!  Still recovering from my big party last night!).  Mommy and Daddy were getting ready to go to Mommy's work Christmas party.  Mommy said that there was a police car across the street talking to some woman.  Then there were 2 police cars and one officer was out knocking on the neighbors door across the street.  Well, after her shower, there were 4 police cars on the street and they were blocking our driveway.  At this point in time Grammy & Pap-pap arrive.  Pap had to park his car out back and walk up the hill to get in.  Amanda was trying to get to our house too because Mommy and Daddy were taking her to the party with them.  She couldn't get in either.  THEN the police man came to the door and said that it would be in "our best interest" to evacuate the house for 2 hours!!  The neighbor "allegedly" struck his girlfriend and threw her out and was refusing to come out of the house and he had guns on the second floor.  The police were bringing in the S.W.A.T. team and if we were there when they came, we wouldn't be allowed to leave!  So, the next thing I know, I'm being bundled up and rushed out the basement door!  I got to ride with Grandma and Grandpa and we met Grammy and Pap-pap at the restaurant while we waited out the ordeal.  I had a good time and was on my bestest behavior.  Hey, I had to be...that Santa dude will be coming in just a few days!!  Wouldn't want to get on that naughty list now!!  Amanda drove Mommy & Daddy to the party and they had a good time too.  All was under control when we got home.  The man came out, the police took him away and I guess he got out on bail the next day!!  Crazy Uncle Mark stayed home and video taped the ordeal from his bedroom window and got some pictures too...also in the gallery!

Mommy and Daddy will wonder what I'll think when I read this when I'm older.  What kind of neighborhood were they raising me in anyway???  HA HA HA!!

Christmas with Grandparents Proper
December 22 , 2002
Grandma & Grandpa Proper are only here till Monday, so we had Christmas with them this morning!  I got A LOT of nice things from them.  A CAT tractor that I can ride/push and it makes cool sounds, a neat growth chart that I can put my pictures in as I grow, a savings bond and a Sesame Street DVD.  Sorry, if I forgot something.  Mommy & Daddy got some nice things too but that is all grown up stuff and I didn't pay much attention to it...heehee!  I got Grandma some cooking things, 2 books she wanted, and a CD walkman.  I got Grandpa a bathrobe, clock for the garage, and a thermometer for outside.  For all the grandparents, we made COLE calendars for them.  Each one was personalized too.  Grandma liked hers so much, she cried!!
THANKS for everything!!  And I'm really glad you got to come visit us for a few days!!!  I hope you had fun!
Christmas CandyLane at Hershey Park
December 22 , 2002
Tonight we all went to Christmas CandyLane at Hershey Park.  It is a lot of fun and very pretty because the whole park is lit up with twinkling lights.  Grandpa Proper took me on the merry-go-round!  Mommy & Daddy rode it too!  It sure was fun.  I also rode the mini train with Daddy and the Lady Bug roller coaster with both of them.  I remembered that one from Halloween.  You sure do have to hold on tight!!!  But the most exciting part is when Mommy put me on the car ride ALL BY MYSELF!!!  She asked Daddy if it was okay first and he thought I was too little.  Mommy said that she was more concerned that she was "too big" for the ride!!  I guess she decided to risk it.  We picked out one of the more little cars, and she strapped me in...good and tight.  She said to herself..."If I step away and he is happy, I'll go with it".  Well, HAPPY?...of course I was.  I was in a car with a steering wheel, flashing lights and a horn!!!  Of course, I was HAPPY!!!   I think I saw a tear drop from Daddy's eye as I drove pasted...laughing!  I rode it 3 times!!!  Check out the Cole's clips for a brief video.   Also, I rode the bulldozer ride by myself too!  It was a lot of fun too but I would have to say that the cars were my favorite.  I can't wait to go to the park this summer and see what new things I can ride by myself!!
At the end of the night we went to a show.  I enjoyed it too.  It was just like watching a big TV set.  They sang and danced to all kinds of Christmas songs.  The big joke of the night was how much the woman sitting beside Pap-pap "enjoyed" the show!!  She laughed the WHOLE way through it!!

Ooh, only 1 more night until Santa comes!!!!

My Second Christmas!
December 25 , 2002
Merry Christmas everyone!  WOW...was Santa ever good to me!  I got up and came down stairs and could not believe what I saw!!  There were so many packages under the tree that were not there when I went to bed.  I don't even know how Santa fit them in his sleigh!!
I got books, puzzles, clothes, trucks, Elmo, remote control car, drums, police rocker, blocks, and a BIG red car!!!  Just to name a few!!
Plus, boy did it snow hard today.  We got a record Christmas day setting 8 1/2 inches!  It was really pretty!  Plus, a special Christmas gift...Grandma and Grandpa Proper came up early from Aunt Atina's house.

I hope everyone else had as good a Christmas as me!!

Gotta go....toys to play with, ya know!!
