January 2003 Journal

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  Boy, another year has come and gone!!  I am growing and learning so much that sometimes it is very hard to keep this website up to date.  I hope that you all keep visiting me online as well as in person!

Happy 2003!
January 1 , 2003
Happy New Year everyone!  Today was a nice quiet one spent with Mommy & Daddy.  We didn't do anything extra special besides play with all my new toys that Santa brought me!  Plus, it has been raining HARD all day long!  Also, I had been sick that last few days.  It started out with a little flu bug and fever.  Mommy thinks I may be getting some new teeth because I have been VERY whiny!  Sorry, Mommy.  We were to go to a New Year's Eve party but we stayed home and celebrated before I went to bed!  Mommy got us some fancy hats, noise makers and silly string!  That was fun!

Mommy & Daddy say that this is the time of the year for making "resolutions".  I'm not sure what that is exactly but you are supposed to list some things that you want to accomplish in the next year.  I'm pretty little to have those but Daddy said that maybe by 2004 I'll have some more teeth!  HA HA!!  The big thing for me will be getting my kidney fixed.  I will be seeing Dr. Hollowell again this month and we are going to get the ball rolling on that.  Especially now that Daddy's new job has better insurance, we won't have to wait until I'm two years old!  That's another thing I'll do this year, is turn two.  Mommy just said that she hopes they aren't "terrible"...whatever that means.  I know some things that I'M planning on doing.  I'm going to figure out that baby gate at the bottom of the steps and eventually get into that refrigerator all by myself!

I don't think Mommy OR Daddy want to list their resolutions this year....I guess that they would be too embarrassed if they fail at them!  But it's my website and I'll tell you what they are!  Mommy, of course wants to lose weight and I think Daddy does too.  We'll see how they do.  Good Luck!

I'm 18 Months Old Today!!
January 6 , 2003
That's a whole year and a half!!!  I have been keeping Mommy and Daddy on their toes!  I can reach things I couldn't a few months ago so I believe some new baby proofing has been going on around here behind my back!!  Anyway, I've been doing some new and fun things and learning some new words too!  Mommy laughs at me because I like to take all the things out of the bottom of my cupboard and crawl inside and close the doors.  But then I yell if I can't get them back open.  I will pull all my books out of the basket and take the protector out (that's Longaberger lingo for the the plastic liner in the basket) put some of the books back in it and push it around the house.  I will still sit and read my books over and over.  My favorites are The Very Quiet Cricket, The Very Busy Spider and of course my truck book!   I have been having a blast playing with all my new toys that I got for Christmas.  My remote car that Uncle JG got me, is probably my favorite.  I know how to turn it on and drive it around, and that I need to pick it up and turn it around if it gets stuck!  My "mostest" fun thing to do is run from it while Daddy drives it after me!!  I laugh so hard sometimes that I fall down!!  I also, like to sit and work my puzzles.  I have my shape sorter one that Jen Hartley got me for my birthday and I can do it all by myself!  I know how to do the one Daddy and Mommy got me for Christmas and I will sit and do my fire truck one from Grammy, with help.

I've been testing the waters, so to speak.  My mood has been a little whiny lately.  I've been getting into some trouble with hitting.  So far, only at home.  Daddy and Mommy are helping me to learn not to do that...but sometimes I just get soo upset.   I don't understand why I have to get a new diaper and lay on that table!  I want to be able to play in the silverware drawer and explore the bathroom downstairs!!!

Bob the Builder is one of my favorite shows.  I'll say "Bob Ba" for his name.  I try to sing it like they do on TV.  Also, I enjoy Blue's Clues and The Wiggles.  I LOVE to dance.  I will pull Mommy and Daddy right off the couch and make them dance with me!!  We usually do "Ring Around the Rosie" but sometimes we dance to some music on the radio!

Mommy thinks I am getting some more teeth but nothing has broken through the gum yet.  So, again...I still only have 6 teeth!!  That doesn't stop me from munching away on whatever!  Since, Daddy got his deer, I have been loving deer jerky and deer slim jims!!  YUMMY!

I have a doctor's appointment on Thursday so you will be hearing from me again and we'll get to see how much I've grown!

My 18 Month Check-up!
January 9 , 2003
Mommy took me to the doctor today.  I had to get weighed and measured by the nurse.  She said I weigh 25 pounds and am 33 3/4 inches tall!  I grew a whole inch and gained, almost a whole pound!!  I am still in the 90th percentile for height and 50th for my weight.  Dr. Besselman said I was growing good.  I did NOT enjoy my exam and cried a lot.  Even though I was upset he still gave me 2 stamps on my hands!!  One is a snowman and the other is a "choo-choo".  Oh, I will say that word know too!  BUT all that happiness ended when I had to get TWO shots!!  OUCH!!  One was the DPT and the other was the Polio vaccine.  I was happy when that was over.

Mommy asked Dr. Besselman about my hitting.  He said that I'm at the age where I'm going to test my limits and try to get attention, no matter if it's negative.  I wish he wouldn't blab all my secrets like that!  He and Mommy came up with an idea to help me stop.  We'll see how that goes.  I know that hitting makes Mommy & Daddy sad, so I will try hard to stop.

I was glad when the check-up was over.  I came home and went right to bed.  Mommy said I will go see Dr. Besselman again in July.  That's okay, he's nice and I know he is doing all this stuff to me to keep me healthy.  The next doctor that I need to go see is Dr. Hollowell, about my kidney.  I hope we can get it fixed before summer, I don't want to spend those nice days in the hospital!!

The 2003 Pennsylvania Farm Show
January 11 , 2003
Mommy, Daddy, Amanda and me went to the farm show tonight.  It was a bit confusing for us at first because they finally opened the new section of the complex and we didn't know where we were going!  Eventually, we made our way in and first hunted down the food court.  Amanda was hungry for some fried mushrooms!!  I told her she could have all of them...I don't care much for mushrooms.  Daddy says I get that from Grandpa P.  Anyway, Daddy bought me a milkshake and BOY was it yummy!  I drank half of it myself and shared the rest.  Then Amanda got some French fries and shared them with me!

After we were done eating we went to the large arena for the high school rodeo.  That was neat!  I liked watching the horses run fast around the poles.  Sometimes the horses wouldn't listen to their owners and they wouldn't get a good score.  I had fun clapping for everyone though.

I got tired of sitting so we went in search of some animals.  There were a lot around there.  I got to pet a cow, deer, goat and horse.  I was a little afraid of the horse but it was friendly to me.  My most favorite were the chickens and ducks.  There must have been hundreds of them.  I ran, dragging Mommy, up and down the rows of cages and had fun talking to them.  They had pens set up too, Daddy said they were called "incubators", and baby ducks were hatching out of there eggs.  They were soo tiny and sounded like chicks.

Next, we walked through the tractor section.  Those things were HUGE...they made Grandpa's tractor look like a toy!  Daddy said we will go back later this week so I can crawl up on them and get my picture taken.

Before we left, we joined the large group huddled around the only TV that was showing the Steelers game and watched them lose.  It was an exciting but sad moment.  Oh well, maybe next year or in my lifetime the black and gold will make it to another Super Bowl!

One last stop at the food court for some chicken nuggets...yummy, a couple milkshakes and we were on our way home!  I had a nice time, the crowd was decent and am excited to go back.

Finally...A New Tooth!
January 21 , 2003
After months and months of chewing, drooling and fussing, I finally have a new tooth that has broken through the surface!  It's my right lower lateral incisor.  I bet you didn't know I knew big words like that!  You can barely see it, but it's there.  Mommy thinks that a few others may show up in a few days.  Given my "teething history", I seem to get more than one at one time.  We'll see.  I just hope it doesn't hurt too much.  I'll keep you all posted when more start to "pop" up!
"NO" News....is Good News, really!!
January 23 , 2003
I gave Mommy quite the surprise this afternoon.  She asked me if I was hungry.  So, I shook my head "back and forth".  I guess she didn't understand me because the next thing I know, food is cooking in the microwave and I'm sitting in my chair.  So, when she put it in front of me and asked again, if I was hungry.  I shook my head "back and forth".  Mind you, I was very polite.  I stabbed a piece of dumpling with my fork and just looked at it.  I really wasn't hungry for this.  Mommy came back over and asked me AGAIN (I am beginning to wonder how smart my Mommy is?) if I was hungry.  I shook my head "back and forth" AGAIN!!  This time she got it.  We decided to put my lunch in the fridge for later, probably supper.  I found some yogurt to have instead...it was yummy.

Mommy "said" she was excited that I can now tell her "no" but I think she was a little sad too.  Because all she said out loud was, "uh-oh".  I'm beginning to think that this "no" thing isn't all THAT powerful because I tried doing it again when Mommy said it was time for my nap!  Oh well, I'll keep trying it out in different situations!
