May 2003 Journal

Well, after all of that rain in April...we best have LOTS of May flowers!!

Exciting trip to Virginia Beach this month for my cousin Nickoli's 1st Birthday!  I can't wait for him to see what I got him.

Mother's Day is this month too.  Daddy and me are planning something special for Mommy!  Shhh!

Plus, a trip to Grandparents Proper.  Hey, am I old enough to drive that tractor yet?

Post-Surgery Ultrasound Test and Follow-Up
May 1, 2003

Mommy & Daddy took me to Hershey Hospital this morning for an ultrasound.  I like going there because they have a nice playroom for kids and I usually meet some nice kids.  I just don't like going back with the doctors.  I am told that this test doesn't hurt but I am just not willing to give it a chance.  I don't like being held down and then I have to lay on my back...in the dark!  I then have to take off my shirt and have this sticky stuff rubbed on my belly.  It's really not all that much fun and I am not going to sit there quietly and take it!  I was sure to let the doctor, Mommy and Daddy know about it.  The test took about 20 minutes and we were done.  Well, at the hospital.  Next, we drove across the river.  I like driving on the highway...I get to see all kinds of big "gucks".  Dr. Hollowell saw me right away.  I didn't cry too much at all.  Just when she touched my belly but it was more a cry of fear.  I don't know if you all remember what she did to me, only a month ago.  I'm still not too sure of her.  Mommy said I will when I'm older.  Anyway, I heard her tell Daddy that my test looked good and that I have to have ANOTHER one in July!  That's alright I guess.  As long as it's not on my birthday!  Plus, if that test looks good I might not have to have that dye test again.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed...toes too!

All Aboard!!
May 3, 2003

I got to do the COOLEST thing today!  Mommy & Daddy took me to see the train in Strasburg, PA.  AND...I got to ride on it!!  It was sooo cool and I had sooo much fun.   We went to the gift shop and I got a train whistle...toot...toot!  Then we went out for lunch at Isaac's and then to the Choo-Choo Barn.  They have a huge toy train set up.  I had fun looking at all the trains, cars, trucks and other things that moved.  There was even a house that caught on fire and then the fire whistle blows, a truck drives out of the station to the house.  A fireman gets out and climbs a ladder to the roof, one turns on the hose (with real water too!) and another one rescues a lady from the back of the house.  It was pretty neat!

I'm 22 Months Old Today!
May 6, 2003

I am 22 months old!  Only 2 more months to go and I get to be TWO!!  Mommy and me have been practicing saying "two" and holding up my fingers...but it's kind of hard.

I haven't been up to a whole lot more since last month.  There are some new things.  I can go down the stairs ALL BY MYSELF now.  I can do it backwards, sitting and even walking the right way (as long as I hold on).  I know how to open the fridge, but I stay out of it.  I am sleeping in my bed with no waking up in the middle of the night AND I wake up happy in the morning.  Daddy is glad about that!  I still don't like when I'm left in there but I only cry for about a minute.  I also make my bed in the morning when I get up!  I bet you don't believe me.  But I do it...not every day but most.  It doesn't look as good as when Mommy helps me but it's good enough.

I am getting another tooth.  The bottom right one...so now I will have four down there instead of the three.  My bottom 2 molars are in and my top 2 are almost finished pushing their way out.  Mommy says that I do have some "bumps" in there that look kind of suspicious.  I got a new race car spin toothbrush.  I like it and do a good job brushing my teeth every morning and night.

I am having some attachment issues with Mommy lately.  I just don't want her to leave me.  She thinks it's all from the surgery and just a part of life.  I just love my Mommy lots and like to be with her!  We like to cuddle on the couch and read "buks".

Well, I better get to bed.

Trip To Virginia Beach!
May 8th-11th, 2003

We went to Virginia Beach, Virginia for a few days this week.  It was my cousin, Nickoli's  birthday on the 5th and his party was on Saturday.  He is finally a whole year old!!  Mommy, Daddy and me left early on Thursday and went for a long ride in the car.  I did a really good job and only complained a little bit.  We stopped at Aunt Atina's when we first got there.  I had a fun time playing with Nick.  He is still only crawling but had no trouble at all keeping up with me!  He has some really neat toys.  His tractor and Chicken Dance Elmo were my favorites!  Mommy said I did a good job of sharing but still needed reminded at times.  Around 5 o'clock we went to check in at our hotel on the beach!!  When we got there a storm had just gone through and we had no electric.  We had to walk up 15 flights of stairs, in the dark, to our room!  Well, Mommy and Daddy had to walk...Mommy carried me!  Weeee!  Our room was soo cool.  I got my own big bed and there was a balcony to sit on and look at the ocean!  I liked being out there!  The electric came on shortly after we got up there...figures!  So, we went out on the beach and I got to play in the sand and run from the waves!  The water is still really cold!  I stuck my toes in it once and that was enough for me!  We went back to our room and I got a tubby because I was covered in sand!  Then we all went to bed.  Daddy said that was the earliest he had been to bed in years!!

Friday, we got up and went for breakfast then back to Aunt Atina's and Uncle Will's house so I could play with Nickoli.   Mommy hung out there with us boys while Daddy and Aunt Atina went shopping for the party and to get a cake ordered.  Grandma and Grandpa Proper finally arrived and we visited with them for a bit before Mommy and Daddy decided to take me for a ride.  It was really a trick to get me to take a nap!!  It worked...we didn't even make it out of the neighborhood before I fell asleep!  Daddy and Mommy went for lunch and a drive down the coast while I snoozed.  We went back to the hotel and went back out on the beach for awhile before it was time to go back to Nick's for pizza.  Uncle Will was home from work so I got to see him too!  Nick and I played for a long time and we got back to the hotel pretty late.

Saturday...PARTY DAY!!  Today was very busy.  We got up and went for a breakfast buffet.  Boy, was it good.  I really liked the eggs and pancakes best.  Then we went to see the old lighthouse.  Cape Henry Lighthouse which is located on the Chesapeake Bay and it just so happens to be on an Army base.  We had to go through a military check point to see it.   Once we got there we had to climb a lot of steps (191 total, up and back).  I love steps.  I did the ones to the entrance myself but Daddy had to help me with the rest of them.  Mommy was a nervous wreck!  She doesn't like steps that are high and that you can see down thru.  She did it!  Daddy and I are proud of her.  The steps spiraled up the whole thing and there was one ladder to climb before we reached the tap.  You could see really far from up there.  I liked it.

After the lighthouse trip, which didn't take us all that long, we went back to the South end of the beach.  They were having a monster truck show.  These things were HUGE and the wheels were the biggest I've ever seen!  Plus, the coolest thing ever...I got to ride in the back of one with Daddy.  We went over hills on the beach!  It was soo much fun.  Daddy was worried that I was going to be scared...but I wasn't.  Weeeee, is what I said.

All that fun in the morning and we still made it to Nickoli's by 12:30!!  There were a lot of people there to help celebrate.  Let me see if I can remember:  Nickoli's grandparents, Barb & Ken, Aunt Susan & Uncle Allen, his Mommy & Daddy, my Mommy & Daddy and Grandparents Proper were there!  Nickoli got all kinds of cool things, a picnic table, sandbox, wagon, swimming pool and a bunch of other stuff.  I got him a bus with blocks in it.  It's really cool.  We had yummy fruit salad and my Uncle Allen let me eat his piece of cake!  Yummy!   Everyone left around 5ish and we stayed well into the evening.  Nickoli and I both took a nap!

Sunday, before we headed back North, we met The McCoy's at the Virginia Marine Science Museum.  We had a fun time watching the harbor seals and fish in the tanks.  The sharks were really cool and my favorite was a horseshoe crab that I was able to pet.  I also petted a sting ray!  That was weird!  We were there for a few hours and it was time to go home.  I was a good boy for the whole trip!

I guess you can say that we had a really nice vacation.  Hopefully, I will get the pics up from our adventure real soon!

Happy Mother's Day!
May 11, 2003

Happy Mother's Day!  After our eventful day at the Science Museum and our long trip home.  I got to give Mommy her gift.  I got her a really funny card (the kid on it actually looks like me!) and a stepping stone with my handprint on it.  Daddy got Mommy tickets for a show at the Dinner Theater.  Also, Mommy was able to relax all evening while Daddy unpacked, straightened up the house and took care of me!

We hope you had a great Day, Mommy!

The Greatest Show On Earth!!
May 21, 2003

Mommy and Daddy took me to The Ringling Brother - Barnum & Bailey Circus tonight!  We also met up with  Amanda and Kevin (her new "friend") there.  The show was at the new Giant Center in Hershey, which is only minutes from our house.  First, we got to see all the animals up close.  I saw elephants, tigers, horses, camels, goats and zebras!  The elephants were my favorite to watch.  One of them kept splashing water out of his tub...it was flying all over the place so you had to be careful not to get too close!
Then before the show started we were allowed to go down in the arena and see some of the performers up close.  We watched a clown blow some amazing bubbles with his hands!  Some acrobats, jugglers and I even got to pet an elephant.  Boy, they are really big animals!
Next, the show started with a LOUD bang and fireworks!!  I was really excited...there was a lot going on to watch.  I liked to find the spotlight and point it out to Mommy.  Daddy got me some cotton candy but I was much too busy watching the show to eat it.  We saw this guys spinning themselves around in giant "wheels"...that was cool!  There was this silly clown named Bello, that kept getting himself into some kind of trouble!  My favorite was the motorcycle "Ball of Death" trick!  They had 6 guys on motorcycles riding around in this steel ball...all at the same time...and they were going really fast too!  Then, at the end of the show, they shot a guy out of this HUGE cannon!  He was on fire and went sailing all the way across the arena!!  I was a little concerned about him but he was alright!
I had a great time!  Mommy and Daddy said I was a very good little boy, as I didn't make much of a fuss at all.  Daddy got me the souvenir DVD of the show, so now I can watch it all the time if I want to!

Memorial Day Weekend
May 23-26, 2003

Mommy, Daddy and me went up to Grandma & Grandpa Proper's house for the weekend.  We had a really nice visit.  It was supposed to rain all weekend but it ended up being really nice and I was able to play outside every day!!  Grandpa had the tractor all ready for me!  I was a little afraid of the big one this time but I had fun playing on the little one.  Daddy said that it's actually a lawn mower...but I don't care.  It had a steering wheel and wheels, so it was good enough for me!  I liked sitting on it and having someone push me.  Daddy and Mommy took me for a ride on it but that made me a little nervous.  We did hook up the wagon and went for a ride down the road to put flowers on Great Grandpa's grave and then up in the woods because Grandma wanted to get some pine trees to plant in her yard.  We found 4 nice ones.
I had a lot of fun playing trucks with Grandpa.  Boy, he was easy...all I had to do was tug on his fingers and say, "play....peas", make my cute little face like I do and I was gold!!  Mommy told Grandpa he was allowed to say that lovely "n" word but he never did!  Yea!  Grandma and me made a stepping stone for her garden.  She let me help a lot.  I put all the stones in it and she wrote my name and date.  She said we will do one every year.  That will be fun to see how much better I get at doing that.
Grandpa said that we HAD to go truck shopping...so, on Sunday, we went to Toys R Us and found some cool cars and trucks to keep at Grandpa's house.  He did let me bring a few of the small ones home though.  We were also able to build a fire outside, Mommy and Daddy cooked hotdogs, while Grandpa and I played...I bet you can't guess?  TRUCKS!! on the deck!
For Monday, Grandma and Grandpa went and got Great Grandma and brought her home for dinner.  We had chicken from the fire hall...yummy!  Well, the grown-ups did...I wasn't very hungry.  After, dinner Mommy and Daddy got their butts beat by Grandma and Grandpa at croquet!!  I played too!  It was fun.  Then it was time to head back home to Harrisburg...I slept for half of the trip.

"Uncle" Mark Moves To Florida :(
May 29, 2003

Well, my Daddy and Uncle Mark left today for his big move to Florida.  Why he is moving there when he has me living right down the street, I just learned to say his name really good and I am learning how to do all kinds of fun things...is beyond me?  I guess he is going to be living near the ocean and not too far away from a place called Disney World.  Mommy said that we will go visit sometime.  The town is called Melbourne and I think that he has pictures of it on his website( www.markpetrillo.com ).  Daddy is driving his car down there for him and helping to unpack.  He will be back home late Sunday night.  I sure will miss him while he is gone...but Mommy will keep me pretty busy.  I had fun last night helping Uncle Mark load up the big truck.  Well, actually, I had more fun running up and down the ramp and inside the truck!  I kept yelling "hello? Mark?"...it was funny, well, everyone was laughing at me.  Well, it's a sad day...I hope Uncle Mark enjoys his new home and comes to visit me soon!!  I will miss him VERY, VERY much!!!  :(
