December 2003 Journal

Some things we hope to do this month:  Christmas celebrations, visit Santa, see the Sweet Lights in Hershey, go to CandyLane and ride some rides and lots of other things too!  We'll see!

Happy Birthday to Mommy, Daddy and Uncle Harold this month!  Happy Anniversary to Aunt Susan and Uncle Allen!

Happy Birthday Mommy
December 1, 2003
Mommy celebrated her 33rd birthday today.  Daddy and I gave her some really nice stuff.  We got her a Christmas is Family sweatshirt.  It has all our names on it.  The special edition of A Christmas Story DVD and the singing snowman from Hallmark!  She liked everything a whole lot.  Happy Birthday Mommy...I love you!
Last Swimming Lesson
December 2, 2003
Mommy and me went to my last swimming lesson today.  We sure did have a fun time.  I even blew lots of bubble in the water this time!  We went under the water lots today...too many times to count!  I did really good again with the swimming "under" the water and reaching for Mommy.  I even had a good time playing in the sprinklers with the balls.  We all got a certificate at the end of class.  It has my name on it!!  Mommy and I hung it on the refrigerator.  Mommy said that she will sign me up for the next class.  Mr. Steve said that in that class, you go under the water on day one!

Happy Birthday Daddy
December 3, 2003
Daddy is 31 years old today!  I helped Mommy wrap up his presents.  I like to use the "sticky" tape!  I like to help open them too!  I am quickly learning what this present/birthday thing is all about!  We got Daddy some really cool and fun stuff.  I picked out some Sponge Bob underwear and Ho-Ho-Homer Christmas socks!  I got him a ornament for the tree...it's a little boy with tree trimming stuff and says, Daddy's Little Helper.  We also got him the new special edition Aliens (movie) box set.  It has 9 DVD's in it.  He was VERY happy with all his gifts!
Cole's Doctor Appointment #4 (in 2 months!)
December 4, 2003
Mommy took me to see Dr. Besselman today.  My tonsils are very swollen and have been for about 2 months!  I had a sore throat in October and had to take antibiotics for it.  It got rid of the infection but the swelling was still there...so, we went back about 1 1/2 later.  I had to take antibiotics...again!  (note:  I absolutely HATE taking oral medicine and will not do this willingly...Mommy & Daddy had to put it in something and hope I didn't taste it!) Anyway, after finishing that dose, my throat still looked the same.  My mood was tons better but I had a rash in my private area.  Off to the doctors again.  We saw Dr. Ashbrook this time. (We saw Dr. Webb last time...Mommy doesn't really care for her) Dr. Ashbrook said that I had a yeast infection and gave Mommy medicine for that...it went away rather quickly.  Dr. Ashbrook didn't seem to think I needed to be on the antibiotics and told Mommy to give my a chewable cold medicine to dry up my nose and drainage that could be causing the swelling of my tonsils.  She said to watch me while I am away from the daycare for awhile...if "cold" symptoms do not appear to get better...we may need to consider allergies.  So, here we are today!  My tonsils are still very swollen.  Dr. Besselman checked me over real good and said I have no signs of infection and that I probably have allergies, most likely to dust and mold.  Mommy & Daddy cleaned my room real good and the house is dusted.  They got an air purifier for the main floor.  We will need to get another one for my room...but they are expensive...it will have to wait.  I spend most of my time in the living room anyway.  Dr. Besselman said that I have "kissing tonsils"...and they could stay swelled like that for years.  As long as I do not get frequent infections and have trouble breathing, I won't need to see a nose/ears/throat specialist!  We'll keep you posted.

**First Snow of the Season**
December 7, 2003
The snow actually fell yesterday but today is the day I got to play in it!  Daddy bundled me up and we all, Mommy too, went outside to clean up the snow.  We must have gotten about 10 inches!  Daddy did all of the shoveling and Mommy and me had a snow fight!  We helped to clean the snow off the car too...so, Daddy had to shovel again!  Mommy and me went for a walk down the street...it was completely covered with ice!  It was fun sliding on it.  I also like squashing slush balls with my boots!  Then we played "push me into the snow bank"!  That was great fun...Mommy was pretty silly.  I had to be careful and sneaky cause Mommy would just pick me up and throw me in the middle of the yard!  Daddy thought he would get away since he had the camera...but we got him too!

Decorating for Christmas!
December 7-8th, 2003
It took 2 whole days but we finally have the house decorated for Christmas!  I helped to put up the tree, handed Daddy the lights and put on some ornaments.  Now, I have my own system for doing things...not sure if my parents agreed...but they left it the way I did it.  I liked to pull the hook and top out of the glass balls and rest them on top of the branches...I bunched them all together...it looks really nice, I think!  I also liked playing with the ornaments before they were put on the tree.  Now, that they are up there, I am not allowed to take them off.  Mommy said that Santa will be coming soon and be putting all kinds of packages under the tree.  I hope so...because right now it looks pretty empty...pretty, but empty!
Visiting Grandparents Proper
December 11th-13th, 2003
Daddy and me went up to Erie to visit Grandma and Pa-Pa.  Mommy had to work so just us boys went up.  Daddy and Pa had big plans to go hunting and me and Grandma were going to bake some Christmas cookies and put up the tree.  Things didn't quite go as planned.  I got a pretty bad cold and they had to take me to the emergency room to see the doctor.  I had a fever of 104!!  Grandma was afraid that they were going to admit me!  After a quick check up and a battle to take some medicine....they diagnosed me with a cold and ear infection.  Pa got me some "special" Tylenol that you didn't have to take orally and an antibiotic for my ear.  I slept all day after that and started to feel much better by Saturday afternoon.  Daddy and me decided to make the long trip back to Harrisburg because there was a snow storm coming through and I was beginning miss my Mommy.  Daddy did get to do some hunting.  He saw 5 deer, 2 that he could get a shot at, shot 4 times and no luck.  Good thing we can always count on Pa-Pa...he got his deer on the first day.
Grammy & Pap-Pap Come for the Holidays
December 13th-26th, 2003
When Daddy & me got back to Harrisburg, Grammy & Pap were there waiting to see me.  I wasn't feeling much better so it took me a few days to get excited.  Plus, Mommy ended up getting pretty sick while I was gone too!  Hmmm?  Maybe we both were suffering some kind of withdrawal...heehee!  Grammy and Pap came early to watch me while "Daddy went to work and Mommy went to court".  Mommy had jury duty the week of the 15th...she made it through one day, said she sat there all day doing nothing but watching boring CNN news.  She was pretty sick, so they let her come home on Tuesday and go to the doctors.  The doctor said, "no more court for you...stay home and rest!"  It all worked out, I guess.  Mommy got the week off, Grammy and Pap were here to help get stuff done.  I got better, only after going to see Dr. Besselman...again!  He gave me some super duper cough syrup that really helped my coughing fits!  THEN....Grammy got sick!  She was ill for about 3 days!  Daddy and Pap never got it....we were glad for them!  I'll break up some entries about the rest of our visit since it all blends in with Christmas and the rest of my family visiting.  All I have to say is that I like when people come to see and play with me!
Hershey Sweet Lights
December 19, 2003
Hershey has a new Christmas spectacle this year.  They call it Hershey Sweet Lights.  We all loaded up in the Pathfinder around 7ish at night and went to check it out.  It is all set up behind the Hotel Hershey.  You pay to go through, I think it was about 15 bucks!  Anyway, it was soo cool.  They had lit up sculptures as big as my house.  We drove through tunnels and counted Rudolf's along the way.  Me and Pap even sang a few rounds of Jingle Bells.  I like singing with Pap-pap.  Then the path went up this hill into the woods.  We weren't exactly sure where we were but they had all kinds of lights and there was music playing on the radio to go with it.  It was a nice trip for the evening.  Grammy thought it would look prettier with some snow...I would have to agree.  I like snow.  Daddy, however, tells a different story.  He does do a pretty good job of "enjoying" the white stuff for me though.  It will be fun to go again next year and see if they add more stuff.

Christmas CandyLane in Hershey
December 21, 2003
Mommy decided that it might be better if we went to CandyLane during the day this year!  We were all ready to get out of the house for some fresh air too!  We got there around 1 o'clock, shortly after it opened for the day.  Plus, it wasn't all that cold out either, winter, but nothing like it would have been going at night.  We made the right call.  There were hardly any people there and no lines for the rides!  Daddy and I rode the mini-Himalaya first.  This was my first time on this thing...it went fast in a circle...Weeee!  I was excited to ride things too.  I rode lots and some things more than once!  I rode the cars, helicopters, merry go round, little choo-choo and the big one, rockets, monster trucks, scrambler and played in the arcade with Grammy and Pap.  Pap-Pap had lots of quarters...so he was my buddy!  I got to feed the ducks and ate some yummy French fries!  I saw Santa and from afar was good enough for me!  I did see Santa's reindeer.  They were resting since they just ate their lunch but I really enjoyed seeing them.  Grammy got me a special sweatshirt that says that I saw them!  I was getting pretty tired by the time we went home and slept on Mommy till we walked to the car.  It was a great time and great day!

Santa Claus Comes To My Street!
December 21, 2003
We were inside watching Frosty the Snowman (again, for the 20th time) when we heard some really loud and close fire sirens.  Mommy went running to the door.  Next thing I know, I'm scooped up, my coat thrown on and we are out the door!  Santa was driving around with the local fireman!  He stopped right in front of my house and gave me a bag of treats and said hello!  It was exciting!  Grammy came out to see him too!  Daddy missed it because he was out Christmas shopping for Mommy...so, bummer...we don't have any pics of the big event.  Maybe next year!
The Rest of the Family Visit
December 24, 2003
It's Christmas Eve....finally, Grandma and Pa-Pa get here!  They were here when I got up from my nap!  I was excited to see and play with them!  Daddy got home from work early too and that was a nice surprise for me!  I like having all my grandparents here...there is always some one who will do something for me!  I was able to have more chocolate than any one person would probably allow me to have...heehee.  I probably should not have typed that and let out my little secret!  Oh well...I'll come up with a new one!  We had a nice Christmas Eve dinner.  Mommy made spaghetti and we have some shrimp cocktail, deer baloney (again, thanks to Pa-Pa)...and SODA!  Yummy!  I was excited to eat like the big people on the TV trays in the living room!  That was great!
Later, after I came down from my tubby....Uncle JG was here!  That was great!!!  He can run super fast with the my trucks.  We did that for about 1/2 hour straight!  Until my bath seemed pointless....I was pretty sweaty!  It was soon time to go to bed.  Santa was going to be coming soon and I had to be in bed!  Daddy helped me to hang the key on the front door for him, since we don't have a chimney!  We put out cookies and milk too.  Grammy and me made some special "Frosty" cookies, I hope he likes them!  Kisses to everyone, Daddy read me Twas the Night Before Christmas and I was "told" to go to sleep!
Cole's Christmas Eve (written by Mommy)
December 24, 2003
Well...Cole was put to bed around 10:30.  We had let him stay up because he was very excited to be playing with his Uncle and all the chocolate he had coaxed the grandfather's into giving him...probably didn't help matters.  The grown-ups were still visiting and getting ready to go to bed.  I still had some gifts to wrap for the family and put under the tree before Santa got here.  Grammy was sleeping in Cole's room and liked to wait until he is asleep for a bit before going in.  I hadn't heard him on the monitor for a little bit, so Mom (Grammy) went on up.  Well, she went in there only to find a very awake but quiet Cole sitting in his bed.  She quickly jumped into bed with all clothes on and pretended to be asleep.  For about an hour, almost 2 hours we hear "Ho-Ho-Ho...choo-choo....Thomas....Ho-Ho-Ho".  Then Cole got a book and sat in bed "reading" to Mr. Moo (his stuffed cow he sleeps with)...."Daddy went to work, Mommy went to court", over and over.  I guess  Cole walked over to Grammy and was going to say something and she told him...."you better get to sleep, Santa is going to be coming".  He didn't last much longer after that.  It did make for a late start on Christmas Day.  Grandma Proper could hardly contain herself any longer so we had to wake him up about 9 o'clock!  Mark and I said, he was probably the only kid in this time zone that wasn't awake yet!
Merry Christmas!
December 25, 2003
Mommy came in and woke me up this morning!  I was pretty tired since I was too excited to sleep the night before!  I tried as long as I could to stay up and wait to see if I could see Santa coming to my house...but Grammy said he wouldn't come if I was awake!  Mommy took me downstairs and WOW...there were presents everywhere!  I quickly forgot all about them when I saw the awesome choo-choo that Santa set up on the floor!  I started playing with it right away.  Daddy had to pull me away to get me to open something else.  I got all kinds of nice stuff.  Mommy & Daddy got me a car wash for my HotWheels, a memory game, a matching game and the pieces look like Oreos, a Thomas outfit, books about trains; Santa brought me a bouncy ball, horsy on a stick, potty and big boy underwear and my CHOO-CHOO!  Grammy & Pap-pap got me a Thomas engine, a book, Thomas PJ's and the DVD player for the car...oh, and a bond.  Grandparents Proper got me a bond and a Buzz Light-year and Woody "action" figures.  Uncle JG got me a drum set, Pirate Ship, Go-Bot Robot and punching bag!  Great Aunt Kitty & Uncle Harold gave me some money...so did Great Grandma Young.  Aunt Susan and Uncle Allen got me a bubble blower, toy saw and My First Leap Pad with 2 additional activity books.  Aunt Atina, Uncle Will and Nickoli got me two games!  Larissa and Lauren Rice got me a bed to take camping and a clothes hamper.  Mr. & Mrs. Schultz got me a cookie monster race car and some chocolate!  Mert Miller gave me some snowman magnets and a washcloth.  Alton Meeker sent me a cool fishing set and some cool Tonka cars!  Whew...that sure is a lot of stuff for a little boy like me! I apologize if I forgot anyone or anything!  I say a big huge gigantic THANK YOU to everyone.  I hope everyone had a great Christmas just like me!

A Proper Gathering!
December 27, 2003
Aunt Atina and Nickoli traveled up to Harrisburg on Friday evening and are staying with us for a few days.  Aunt Susan and Uncle Allen came up today.  We all got ready and went out to eat at The Old Country Buffet for lunch.  What a nice time we had.  Everyone was impressed with how well behaved Nick and I are and how well we play together.  I did stress a bit when it comes to sharing my choo-choo but I did a pretty good job.  Not one time did I get mad or hit my cousin!!  That is, what I am told, pretty amazing for a 2 1/2 year old! Plus, he was awesome fun to run and crash trucks with!  We had a nice visit.  We all haven't been together since Nickoli's first birthday in May!  Uncle Allen and Aunt Susan said that they would like to have a BBQ with everyone together...that would be fun.  They have a nice big yard and playground that I like to run around in.
