February 2004 Journal

Happy Valentine's Day!  We have been busy decorating with hearts around here!  I will be continuing my swimming lessons, hopefully going to ChocolateFest in Hershey, having a Valentine's Day party at "school" and a get together with friends here at home!

Mommy and Daddy said that we will be so busy that they will be adding an extra day to this month!  Happy Leap Year!

Happy Groundhogs Day!
February 2, 2004
That stinkin' groundhog saw his shadow AGAIN this year!  Guess that means 6 more weeks of winter.  No big surprise...it has been really cold around here.  It's been snowing, sleeting and raining!  Mommy and me made some groundhog cookies that I took for my friends at school today.  No one knew what they were...my friends kept calling it a bear or a rabbit!

Swimming Lesson #4
February 3, 2004
Today at swimming we did something really cool!  Mommy and I went all the way to the bottom of the 3 foot and had to push off with our feet!  Weeee....rocket ship!  It was hard for me because I didn't want to put my feet down...but we did it 3 times until I got it on the last try.  I didn't feel much like jumping from the side of the pool today so I practiced my "reach and slide" along the wall.  I like doing that because Mommy doesn't need to hold on to me.  We practiced all the regular techniques again and I am doing about the same at those.  I had fun at the end of class playing with the beach balls.  The teachers put about 10 of them in the pool and us kids stood in the middle of the circle throwing them around.

ChocolateFest
February 8, 2004
This afternoon, Mommy, Daddy, Amanda and me all went to the Hershey Lodge for ChocolateFest!  It was soo crowded but we had a fun time tasting different kinds of sweet treats from 70 some vendors.  My favorite was a plain old Hershey's Chocolate Bar.  I was asking for one on the car ride over and was excited to see a whole table covered in chocolate bars!  I also had some really good chocolate ice cream and these chocolate things that looked like potato chips!  Mommy, Daddy and Amanda had some yummy cakes.  I don't care much for cake.  Amanda's favorite was the Giant wedding cake.  Yes, that is Giant the grocery store...heehee.  Mommy liked a chocolate cake from one of the cake competition tables...it was shaped like a thing of Swiss cheese!  Daddy didn't really say what his favorite was but I sure did see him trying a lot!
There was music playing...a live band.  That was neat and loud!  Plus, there were dogs there!  A bunch of them...they were being trained to be seeing eye dogs.  I think they were all Labs.  I didn't care, they were all really friendly and I got to pet all of them!  The owners would give them special treats for being good.  That meant that they had to keep their eyes on them and not me.  I only had one dog that gave me a kiss!  I didn't mind.
After we took Amanda home, I kept singing the Hershey Park chocolate bar song.

Swimming Lesson #5
February 10, 2004
We missed this lesson because the Pathfinder was having problems again and Daddy took it to the dealership to get fixed.  Bummer...Mommy and me were really looking forward to going!

Happy Valentine's Day!
February 14, 2004
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  Mommy, Daddy and me didn't do anything special.  Daddy was on call for work and we needed to stay around the phones and close to home.  He ended up going in to work around 4:30.  As a matter of fact, he is still there and it's my bedtime soon.  I hope he doesn't have to work much later.  Anyway, Mommy and Daddy got me some really nice things.  I got a roundhouse for my engines to go "night-night" in, a blanket with all the Thomas engines on it...and my favorite thing that I played with and carried around all day...Percy!  He is engine number 6!
I gave Daddy a mug that I painted all by myself.  He can take it to work and use it to hold his pens and such.  I got Mommy some chocolate pretzels, a bath wrap and a Trading Spaces book.  It must have been a good read, because she read it all night long!  Daddy got Mommy some really pretty flowers.  Mommy said that they are called roses.  I think they smell good too.
I also had fun helping Mommy to make cupcakes for our party tomorrow.  I'm excited because my friend Derrick will be coming over and I haven't seen him in a long time!

Valentine's Day Party!
February 15, 2004
We had a lot of our friends come over today to celebrate Valentine's Day and just be together!  Let me see if I can remember everyone's names:  Amanda, Jen & Darrin Hartley, Melonie & Ryan Fisher, Drew, Louise, Derrick, Julia and Baby Nolan Ciesielka!  It was a full house but we had a great time.  Derrick, Julia and I had fun playing with all my toys.  Nolan stayed upstairs with all the big girls.  We ate a lot of food.  My favorites were the chips and cupcakes!  Plus, I had a great time playing "run with trucks" with Jen!  She can go pretty fast!

Playdate with Derrick & Julia!  Nolan took a nap!
February 16, 2004
Mommy took me out to Derrick's new house.  They just moved into it last month...and boy is it nice!  He doesn't have a yard to play in yet but it's been too cold outside anyways.  His Daddy needs to plant some grass yet.  Mommy and Derrick's Mommy talked a lot while us kids played with all the toys!  Derrick is pretty cool...he has Thomas stuff too!  It was hard for the two of us to share that toy.  So, it didn't stay out for very long.  I did like his Rescue Hero stuff.  My favorite was the big police car that had a claw on the front you could catch people with!  I think Derrick and Julia are coming to my house next week!

Swimming Lesson #6
February 17, 2004
Mommy & me went swimming today!  I have soo much fun there!  I finally jumped from the side of the pool!  One time was enough though.  I liked going to the bottom and pushes off with my feet and coming up out of the water like a rocket!  That was fun!  Mommy helps me with that.  We did a lot of practice with "scooping" the water today.  I had to swim to Mommy and try and move my arms, I didn't do too bad.  The teachers turned the sprinklers on at the end of class today and we had to swim under them!  I did that once and that was enough of that.  Not a big fan of the sprinklers....plus, they are cold!!  Brrr.  I did finally warm up to the one fountain at the end of class.  The water was warmer in it but I would only get close enough to touch it and splash Mommy!  We only have 2 more classes left in this session but Mommy plans on signing me up for this class again.  We are hoping that Daddy will be able to come to some.

Busy Working!
February 18-20, 2004
Mommy & me have been going to FunCare all day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Mommy has been helping Ms. Judy out until she hires some more teachers.  I have been having fun in my class.  I really like Ms. Michelle but Ms. Amy is my teacher.  She is really nice too.  We have been learning about the color yellow and about squares.  I have been picking out squares for Mommy all week.  I have even been tricked into taking naps too.  Although, I keep telling Ms. Amy that I am not napping!  I just have been too busy playing and working hard that I can't stay awake.  It's been nice this week because we have been able to play outside on the playground!  That has been soo much fun!  Then, the icing on the cake was Friday.  There is this big pink and blue bus that comes to the daycare.  It's called the Jumpin' Jitney!  Well....that was sooo much fun!  We get to learn gymnastics in there!  I was just excited because it was a bus!  Mommy is working the same next week too...so, I hope I get to go on that bus again!

Geocaching Trips #3 and #4
February 22, 2004
What a nice sunny day...a bit chilly but not too bad...so, we decided to go geocaching.  Today's adventure took us to Middletown, PA.  We did drive around for a bit before we found a place to park.  I had a fun time walking through the woods and jumping on the piles of snow that remained.  We sure did get muddy on this one!  It took us little while to find the cache...it was quite a bit off of the path...but we found it!  I took out a little plastic snake and we left a state quarter!  Daddy had some other coordinates in the GPS, so we went to find it.  We parked right off of the railroad tracks from the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad.  We were hoping to get to see the train, but no luck there.  Our GPS said we were in the right spot but we couldn't find the cache.  Daddy and Mommy looked for a really long time!  We are going to try and go back there another day, maybe when it is warmer, less muddy and the creek isn't so high.  It was a fun day!

Swimming Lesson #7
February 24, 2004
It's hard to believe that this swimming session of lessons is almost over.  Only one more to go after today!  I was having more fun today doing my own thing.  I really had no interest in trying to "swim" to Mommy. I did it though and was not horribly upset afterwards...it's just the convincing me to do it in the first place.  I like to slide on Freddy, push off like a rocket (I almost lost my shorts on this one today!) and practicing the grab and slide along the wall!  Ms. Joanne was playing tag with me while I was practicing that one!

Frosty the Snowman...Finally!
February 24, 2004
Finally!  A snowstorm that brought build-able snowman snow!  As soon as Mommy and me got out of the car after getting back from swimming, I ran for it!  Mommy helped me to start the pile and I would carry over some more snow and help pat it on.  I had to be really careful, because sometimes I was patting too hard and it would fall off!  Aunt Susan had sent me some really cool beads, so we used those and Mommy brought out the carrots!  I had fun making "Frosty's" eyes, nose and mouth with them.  I admired him for about a second and then I had fun KNOCKING HIM DOWN!  "Hi-ya!"...with a kick and a few more kicks, a couple punches and jumps and he was gone!  Hee-Hee...what fun!  I could have stayed out there all day but the snow was soo wet, it was like rain and I was getting pretty soaked!

Geocaching Trip #5
February 28, 2004
Mommy, Daddy and me went in search of another treasure this afternoon.  We left kind of late, around 4:30.  This one was in Hummelstown, near a really great playground and ball field.  There were quite a few people there so I got to play for a long time while we waited for everyone to go home.  While geocaching it is very important to be quiet and sneaky and not be spotted.  Daddy brought our remote control car that Santa had left us, so we ran that for bit on the basketball court.  It sure can go a lot faster outside!  Anyway, after the sun set....we were good to go.  I had fun running around the ball field and Daddy found the treasure right away.  I like picking up the containers and saying "treasure!"...sometimes I forget the "you have to be quiet part".  Oh well, no one spotted us.  We took nothing  and left nothing since the container was too small for our Silly Putty but Daddy signed the log!  I think we are going on another hunt tomorrow!

Virtual Geocaches (#6,7,8,9,10,and 11)
February 29, 2004
Wow...what a nice day!  It was in the 60's and we didn't have to wear our winter coats!  Today we went geocaching but this time we did what they call "virtual" caches.  That means you don't have anything to "find" but you are given coordinates to places you may have never been to before or have been, but never really looked at or appreciated it.  We did a lot of historical Harrisburg ones today, 6 total.  We learned about the Harrisburg Train Station (it's one of the oldest around), where the old Farmers Markets used to be,  special gifts given to the city, the underground railroad, where Presidents once visited and gave speeches (Abraham Lincoln being one of them) and checked out a special memorial statue in the park.  Mommy and Daddy worked hard on answering the questions that we had to in order to get credit for the "find".  I enjoyed the Train Station most of all....Daddy bought me Toby the Engine there...he is number 7.  I took him along on all the caches!  I also had fun walking in the Capitol Park, which is the park around the capitol building, chasing the squirrels up the trees...they were everywhere!
We had a nice lunch at The Spot...a very popular, kind of "divey", restaurant in the city.  They are famous for their hot dogs.  What a fun day!
