July 2004 Journal

Happy Independence Day!  And....most important....Happy Birthday to ME this month!  Can you believe that I will be 3 years old already?

The summer months have already been soo hot.  I hope that we will be doing a lot to stay cool.

Teri M's 35th Birthday (Surprise) Party!
July 1, 2004
Tonight we went to The Italian Oven in Mechanicsburg to help Bernie, Alex and Drew celebrate their Mommy's birthday.  We arrived a little late because of Mommy working and had to be extra sneaky so Teri wouldn't see us in the parking lot...she was in the car behind us!!  We missed the big shout out of "surprise!" but we didn't miss out on the fun!  I met some nice new friends but mostly had fun playing with "the guys", as I liked to call them.  These were Alex and Drew's friends...they were what Mommy called "teenagers".  I was having fun playing "jab" with the balloons and I fell and hit my head on the very hard floor.  I had a HUGE goose egg.  Mommy made me sit with her for a little bit but all I wanted to do was "go play with the guys".  She said I was okay and let me go...I just have a very nice bruise on my head.  So, no pictures this week for turning 3!  Daddy said it was probably about time my "hard head" met it's match!  Oh well....boys will be boys...no blood...no stitches :)

Anyway...Happy Birthday Teri!  We hope your day was great!

Fun At The Lake (Mount Gretna)
July 2, 2004
I got to stay home with Daddy today and we went to the "beach".  Well, the lake in Mt. Gretna.  I like my "Daddy time" that I get now.  I really missed him when I didn't get to see him all day...but now, I really miss Mommy sometimes.  Anyway, Daddy & me had a lot of fun playing in the sand.  I liked sitting on the nice chair on the deck.  We got to eat some lunch there too.  I had a soft pretzel and a very yummy BLUE (Daddy said that is the best kind, and he was right!) Slush Puppy!  We went in the water for a little bit but it was soooo cold!  Brrrr!  You know it's cold if I don't want to play in it for very long!

Daddy wore me out because I fell asleep on the way home and took a nice long nap!
Geocaching with Amanda
July 3, 2004
We did some geocaching with Amanda today in Mt. Gretna.  This time Daddy actually let her be the "first to find".  It was kind of funny because she was a lot like Grammy when we took her.  Just pointed it out right away!  Yea, Amanda!  The first one was a "Space Invaders" theme, so I took two really cool aliens from it and left a car.  On to the next one, and Daddy let Amanda use the GPS and direct us this time.  She didn't do so bad at that either...we'll turn her into an addicted Geocacher yet!  We did it to Uncle Mark...he has already passed us in number of finds and has met some new people, that have become caching buddies, all thanks to this "sport".  Anyway, once we got to the designated location...I "found" this one.  It was buried in an old rotting log, covered up with some bark.  This cache had a lot of neat things in it but has really suffered some damage from the elements...and needs some TLC.  We cleaned it up the best we could and trashed out with the stuff that was soaked and moldy.  I got a really cool truck at this one.

I was pretty much too tired after this trip and it was time for lunch, so we stopped at The Twin Kiss.  I liked it there...the lady working there was flirting with me and wanted to be my girlfriend.  I think Amanda was jealous...Daddy told her to get used to it.  Proper's are known for attracting women everywhere they go.  Hee-Hee.  She wanted to know where I would take her on our date...I told her "take you for ice cream!".  Everyone thought that was pretty funny.

Fireworks in Hershey
July 3, 2004
Mommy, Daddy and me went to Hershey to see the fireworks.  I wasn't too sure if I would be scared of them or not.  Daddy was telling me how loud they would be and not to be scared.  We sat up on the big hill below the old Milton Hershey School, across from the park.  I had fun while it was still light out watching the roller coasters and other rides.  I keep asking to go on the roller coasters but Mommy says I am too little.  We had some cotton candy and Daddy and me were catching fireflies.  I like holding them...they tickle.  Then Daddy got me this cool glow in the dark stick....I could wear it as a necklace or if you spun it around, it looked really cool too!  Daddy & I played catch with it too.  I had fun being outside in the dark!  Finally, it was time for the fireworks.  I laid down on the blanket with Mommy and we watched them overhead.  They sure were loud, I was a little tense, but I was okay.  They were really pretty and I liked the big ones that looked like circles.  It was a fun night.

Happy Fourth Of July!
July 4, 2004
Amanda's Aunt & Uncle, that live right down the street from us, invited us down for a picnic.  We took the dessert, "dirt" of course!  We had a really nice time.  I got to "drive" my quad runner down there.  That was cool.  I finally got to meet Amanda's Grandma & Poppy!  They are always sending me little things and those yummy infamous cookies she makes!  I had fun playing at the playground, which is right behind their house!  We had a nice time visiting and meeting everyone.  It was nice of them to invite us down.  :)
A Fun Day in Lititz
July 5, 2004
Everyone had today off because of the holiday, so Mommy, Daddy, Amanda and me went for a road trip.  We did some searching online the night before for some cheap entertainment, along with places we could go geocaching.  We ended up going to Lititz, PA, which is just a bit south of here, near Lancaster.  Our first stop was the Sturgis Pretzel Bakery.  This is one of the very first pretzel bakery's in the United States!  We got to roll our own pretzels and learned the story of how it got it's shape.  It comes from how children would cross their arms in front of them while saying their prayers.  The tasty pretzel was their reward for saying their prayers.  We are all now certified pretzel twisters and even have a certificate to prove it!  My favorite part was that a pretzel was our ticket!!  Daddy almost wasn't able to get in...he ate most of his!
Then we walked down the street to Wilbur Chocolate Factory.  This tour wasn't anything like Hershey's Chocolate World but it still was a bit interesting and I got a yummy flag shaped chocolate lollipop out of it!
Then we walked to the park next door.  Lititz Springs Park.  There was an old renovated caboose there that we could go in.  I liked that.  It was a nice shiny red.  Daddy and me climbed the ladder to sit in the seats that look out the high windows in the middle.  There were two beds in there and even a potty!  The nice man working inside gave me a lollipop!
Next, we walked into the park.  There was a nice big fountain with canals of water that ran through the park.  There were all kinds of ducks in there...mallards, baby ones and some other ones we don't know the names of.  Anyway, you could get really close to them.  I had a lot of run watching them and telling them to "1..2...3...JUMP!" into the water.  Mommy got us some food and I fed them for a long time.  It was funny to see them duck under the water to get it and then some of them were fighting and got us all wet!  It was sooo hot outside that we didn't care.  It felt good and refreshing.
Well....since it was soo hot, we skipped the whole geocaching thing.  We did luck into the pretzel factory being a "virtual cache" though.  So, we did get one for the day.

I'm 3 Years Old Today!!
July 6, 2004
Happy Birthday to Me!  Can you believe that I am 3 years old already?  I can!!  I had a very nice day today.  Mommy & me went to FunCare and Daddy came a few minutes later to play with me.  I got to show him off to all of my friends.  We played outside in the sandbox, enjoyed some Mr. Frosty ice cream and played in the water.  I was chasing Ms. Michelle around with a bucket trying to get her all wet.  It was pretty funny.  We went inside for lunch and Daddy helped me and my friends get ready for lunch.  I brought in some pudding for everyone to eat and they all sang "Happy Birthday" to me.  It was fun!  Then Daddy took me out to McDonald's for a milkshake and fries...my favorite.  I took a nice long nap too.  Then Mommy got home and I got to open some presents!  A package had arrived from Grammy & Pap-pap and it was killing me to know what was inside.  So, I was excited when Mommy got home!  I got Thomas the Tank Engine bed sheets and comforter.  I can't wait to use them!  Daddy & Mommy got me a Buzz Light-year movie, Sockem' Boppers ( I am wicked with those), a Spiderman Pez, Elefun the game, and a big ball for outside!  I also got two cards in the mail.  One from Pat Longwell and Aunt Kitty & Uncle Harold.  Mommy is going to help me put that money in the bank, but I did use some of it to buy a garbage truck car on our trip to Lititz yesterday!  Anyway, Mommy got me a little cake (with blue on it, just like I asked) and it had the number 3 on it and 3 candles.  We had fun singing and I blew out the candles in one swift breath!  YAY!  That was fun, so we did it three more times...for luck!
I had a very nice day!  I can't wait for my party on Saturday...it should be a fun day!

Happy 3rd Birthday to Me ~ My Party
July 10, 2004
We had my birthday party today at 4 o'clock.  A bunch of my friends and family were able to attend.  Let's see...who was there...Daddy & Mommy,  Grandparents Proper & Wiles, Uncle Mark, Aunt Susan & Uncle Allen, Jen, Todd, Jessica, TJ & Logan, Drew, Louise, Derrick, Julia & Nolan, Melonie & Ryan, Jen & Darrin, Teri, Bernie, Alex & Drew, Scott (representing the Lemmons gang) and Amanda came after work.  Whew...I hope I didn't forget anyone.  We had a great time and a great day...the weather was nice.  I got a lot of nice things.  I got money, savings bonds, Thomas stuff (so much it is too hard to list it all), Spiderman car & towel set, Rescue Hero Billy Blazes backpack water squirter, Buzz Light-year remote control cars, Lego's (quite a few sets), books, coloring books, some new shirts,  roller-skates with helmet and elbow/knee pads, a tee ball set, Barnyard Bingo, Silly Golf and Go Fish games.  I know that I am probably forgetting something...but you get the point that I got a lot of really nice things.  THANK YOU EVERYONE!  I sure do have a lot of people that care about me.
Everyone had a nice time...the "big kids" (ahem, Uncle Mark, Todd, Daddy, Bernie, Teri, Drew C., Alex and Drew) had a good time playing Dodge Ball....I wanted to play so badly but I just couldn't keep up with them...I did enjoy chasing after the balls though.  They sure did have a good time pelting each other with my balls.  Some people played Bocce ball, while other visited, and we all ate our fill of pizza, chips and ice cream cake!  Did I mention that "Thomas" was on my cake!  I bet you are all surprised about that.  The last fun thing we did was a water balloon fight!  That was great!  It took Pap-pap an hour and a half to fill up 100 balloons that took us about 3 minutes to use!  It was funny...everyone kept getting me...and I loved it!
Most everybody went home around 8ish...but some friends hung around longer, playing Bocce and visiting.  I couldn't wait to get Grandma inside to set up all of my Thomas stuff!  We played that all night.  I stayed up till MIDNIGHT!!!  That is the latest I have ever been up...I probably could have kept going if Mommy wouldn't have taken me upstairs to lay down!  What a fun day!  So far, turning THREE has been great!
Tornado 2004
July 15, 2004
A tornado blew through Cambelltown today.  I was upstairs sleeping and Uncle Mark and Daddy were downstairs watching a movie when it got really dark, rainy and windy outside.  The tornado went through a development about 3/4 of a mile from here.  Mommy and Daddy had actually looked at buying a house over here....I'm glad they didn't.  Daddy and Uncle Mark went out the next day to take some photos of the damage...what a mess!  Thankfully only a few people were hurt, although one of them critically.  That was too close for comfort!

Swimming at Lake Pinchot
July 17, 2004
Finally!  A nice Saturday without rain!  We decided to go to the lake for swimming and a picnic.  Funny, we went to this same place on the exact same weekend last year!  So, it's interesting to go back and compare experiences.  Last time, Mommy & Daddy really had to coax me into the water and I did have a good time but was not thrilled.  I believe it was one of my first "happy" times in the water.  Anyway, completely different story this time around....I LOVED IT  here today!  You couldn't get me out of the water.  I practiced some more of my "swimming" techniques that I learned in my lessons.
We had a really nice day there and I hope we can go back again before the summer ends

** We had a malfunction with the card in the digital camera so we lost all the pics we took on this trip!  Bummer, we know! **
Cole's 3 Year Check-up
July 19, 2004
Daddy took me to see Dr. Besselman for my 3-year old check-up today.  Mommy had to work all day and couldn't go.  That would be the first one she has ever missed.  Anyway, I sure am a growing boy!  I weighed in at 33 pounds and am 37 3/4 inches tall!  I grew a whole inch since last year!  Everything looks great.  He told Daddy that my erratic eating habits are very normal.  It's not unlike kids my age to only eat one meal a day...as long as it's something healthy...no worries.  Also, he said to start the whole potty training thing...I was afraid he was going to tell them that!  We need to find a weekend when we are going to be home to start that...things should start calming down around here by the middle of August.
Oh, and I was a great patient today.  Apparently, I have outgrown my fears of the doctor.  I cooperated with EVERYTHING!  This was a first for me.  Mommy said I even battled him when I was a baby and didn't know what was going on!  Not sure what I was making a fuss all about...nothing hurt.  Of course, there were no shots this time around.  I even got to help hold the blood pressure gauge...that was a weird feeling.
Now, I am good until next year, unless of course, I would catch a cold or something.
