September 2004 Journal

Who knows what we will find ourselves doing this month!  A visit from grandparents, Uncle Mark and Uncle JG will be nice.

I think I am going to get to ride Thomas too!  I am doing AWESOME with going on the potty!

Grandparents Proper Visit
September 3-7, 2004
Threw together a last minute visit for Grandma and Pa-Pa to come here.  Daddy wanted to take Pa-Pa to Chili-Fest on City Island on Saturday.  I am glad that they were able to make plans to come and actually stay for a few days.  Mommy & me both weren't feeling too good but managed to get through okay.  Sorry, Grandma if we gave you our colds.  Anyway, we pretty much just hung out and visited all day Friday while Daddy worked on Pa-Pa's computer.  He got them all set up and ready to go on their new one.  It was getting pretty old banging on that other monitor in order to get it to work!
Saturday, we got up and moving and went to the Chili-Fest.  Mmmm.....yummy chili.  Mommy and me just walked around and watched the boats on the river.  We still weren't feeling that good and chili would not have helped!  We spent a long time there and we all rode the train around City Island.  Thank goodness it didn't rain this year!  Daddy and Pa-Pa had a good time eating chili that made them sweat!  Our batteries weren't working in our camera...sorry no chili-fest pics this year....bummer.
Sunday we just hung out at home....and Grandma & Pa-Pa went to visit Uncle Allen and Aunt Susan.  We opted to stay home, since Mommy and me still were kind of sick.  We are hoping to visit them soon.  Aunt Susan sent Pa-Pa back with a really cool metal pedal car for me...it's a Pepsi one.  It will take me a little bit to learn to use the pedals, but I can make it go with my feet.  We cooked a nice dinner and watched a movie before it was time for bed.
Monday ~ Labor Day and Mommy & Daddy's Anniversary.  I got to stay home with Pa-Pa and play while everyone else went and did a little geocaching.  Grandma brought me back a really cool corvette car and some lizards!  Thanks.  While everyone was away, Pa and me played in the sandbox and took a walk around the neighborhood.  By walk, I mean, I rode on Pa-Pa's shoulders....heehee!  Later, Daddy and Mommy went out for dinner.  Happy 7 Years Mommy & Daddy.  Pa-Pa said that Mommy says it's "Been 7 glorious years" and that Daddy says it's "been 3 glorious years".  My Pa is pretty funny!  Anyway, we went to McDonald's for supper and I (or Grandma, we aren't sure who to blame) spilled an entire soda all over Grandma!  Oops....sorry.  After dinner, they took me to Wal-Mart.  Pa-Pa thought I could use some more cars.  Plus, I have been doing so good with going to the potty too!  They got me a matchbox Hummer car, a Fairly Odd Parents book and a new Thomas DVD!  THANKS!!!  XOXOXO
Tuesday came too fast and it was time for them to leave.  I told them I didn't want them to go but I will see them again soon....I hope.  Now, Mommy & me need to get rid of our colds!  *cough*
Daddy's Lyme Disease
September 4, 2004
Well...the results are in...Daddy has Lyme Disease.  He had found a tick on his belly about a month ago after a long day of geocaching...removed it rather quickly and we watched the bite area for about a week or two and nothing seemed odd.  About 2 weeks ago I heard Mommy asking Daddy about some rash on his stomach and what was up with it.  He didn't seem to concerned and kind of blew it off.  Then about 2 days later, comes in to the living room and asks Mommy about this "strange" rash on his belly.  (Ah, Daddy your funny!)  It was all red and had a ring around the edge and pretty much covered his lower torso.  He said it wasn't itchy or burning or anything...nor did he have any of the flu-like symptoms that you can get with Lyme's.  So, he decided to go to the doctors anyway and make an appointment for a test.  The doctor wasn't sure either but since the rash was so big, they did the test.  We weren't expecting to hear back from the doctor until next week, but someone was in the office today and saw his test had come back, so they called with the news.  Daddy has to get an antibiotic and take it for 2 weeks and everything will be fine.  We caught it in time...whew!  The antibiotics is called: Doxycycline, for anyone who was wondering.
Weird since the tick was a "dog tick", one of the larger brown ones, that they "say" doesn't usually carry the disease, but I guess that is quickly changing.  Plus, it wasn't on Daddy for very long.  I guess we are lucky that he got the rash.  The doctor said a lot of people don't.  So...we suggest if you ever find one on you...have the blood work done...it doesn't cost that much.  We had used all the necessary precautions too....bug spray, long pants, etc.  So, just always check yourself good when out in the woods.  You can't be afraid of this stuff and stay inside all the time!  Life would get pretty boring!
Amber Christine is Born!
September 3, 2004
Congratulations Jeff & Stephanie!  (Our friends that live in Melbourne, FL)

Despite the threat of Hurricane Frances barreling down on the "Jeffanie's"...the doctor decided it was time for them to have their baby.  It was going to be safer for them to be in the hospital and that the baby would thrive more in the outside world.
She was born at 8:40am and weighed 5lbs 4 1/2ozs. and 18 1/2 inches long!   She  and Mommy are both doing great!

Check her out at their website: Baby Amber  I am sure I will be adding her to my buddies page soon!
Accident Free for ONE Whole Week!
September 11, 2004
"Who is the big boy, that wears big boy pants?  COLE JAMES PROPER!!"  That's what Mommy is always singing around here!  She's funny!  Well....you heard it right...so far...so good.  I am using the potty like an old pro.  I even used the potty in public with Daddy the other day.  We were shopping and I had to go, so I told him.  I guess this was a big deal, since he called Mommy at work and told her all about it and she was excited for me when she got home.  I am still wearing a pull-up to bed and for nap (when I take one).  Mommy said that she will probably give me another week (at daycare) in pull-ups for nap and then see if I am still consistently dry before she takes them off of me.  I am becoming such an old pro at this that I don't even care about getting stickers and chocolate anymore!  HOWEVER...I do remember that Mommy said we would go ride Thomas when he came to town!  I can't wait for that day to get here!  I want to ride in Clarabel!
A Day at Hershey Park
September 12, 2004
Amanda had gotten free park tickets a long time ago and we were supposed to all go together next week, but with the pending weather...we decided to bump the trip up a weekend and unfortunately, Amanda had to work.  We THANK her very much for thinking of giving us the tickets....we still managed to have a pretty fun day.
We really picked a good day to go.  It was pretty much after the regular season so the crowd wasn't so bad, lines weren't too long and weather was perfect!  I was a little fussy at first but still having a good time riding on rides.  I can ride a whole bunch of different ones now that I am bigger.  I am, what they call, a Hershey Kiss.   I was excited to ride my very first real roller coaster, Trailblazer.  Mommy tried to take a picture but it was too blurry.  She did catch Daddy and me coming off the ride though....what a rush!  Apparently, it was a bit too much for my little self to handle, since shortly thereafter, while feeding the ducks, I pee'd all over the place!  Ooops!  I had done so good earlier too....and after just bragging about how good I was doing.  Oh well....Mommy and Daddy said it happens.  It was a good thing we had extra clothes along, however, they were a bit wet from the water rides we had gone on, but I didn't mind.  Enough about that...we were going to get ready to go but I wanted to check out the Sea Lion and Dolphin show and after that...I was really excited to be there...so, we stayed and pretty much rode everything I was allowed to!  Let's say we opened and closed the park!  I got to buy a yummy "locolate" bar before we left.
Thanks again Amanda!  I am excited to go back in the Fall for Hershey Park in the Dark!  I like to wear my costume there and go trick or treating!  Hopefully, Amanda can join us then!
Uncle Mark Visits!
September 14, 2004
I went to work with Mommy today!  It had been well over a week since I had been there.  Anyway, I had a fun day....but came home to a great surprise.  Uncle Mark was at my house!  I was very excited to see him.  We played outside and I introduced him to our new neighbors and we played too.  He has a bunch of stuff to do while he is in town but I am sure we will get to spend some quality time together.  I think Mommy said that us "boys" were going to hang out on Wednesday.  I am looking forward to it.
Uncle Mark came out of Hurricane Frances unscathed.  He had evacuated to a relatives place up north.  He returned to his home with very little to no damage.  A small leak in the ceiling but nothing that "dripped" into his house.  He even had electric and cable when he got home!  However, some homes in the area, mostly the older ones, weren't so lucky.  He said it's been very interesting living in the "post hurricane" world.  The beaches near his house took a good beating, a lot of erosion.  Some of the pictures he showed us were quite fascinating, especially the steps leading to the beach that ended about 6 feet above the sand!  Hope they get that all fixed by our next visit!  We are hoping he doesn't go home to too much more damage from Hurricane Ivan!
Peein' In 'Da Woods!
September 15, 2004
Uncle Mark and Daddy took me Geocaching today!  I had lots of fun, and even found the caches all by myself!  But the highlight of my day was when I told Daddy I had to pee, and he just told me to go in the woods.  It was so much fun, I even went a second time a little bit later.  Peein' in the woods is tons of fun, and Daddy says it's one of the great things about being a boy!
Cole's Doctor Appointment
September 16, 2004
Daddy got me a check-up for today since I have been coughing still and mostly at night and it has been keeping me awake...and them too...heehee!  Dr. Besselman saw me and he seems to think it's my allergies acting up again, seeing how I was there around the same time last year with similar symptoms.  He told Daddy to give me Delsym at night and some nose spray (Rhinocort Aqua, and only till my nose dries up).  Then I am taking Zyrtec for my allergies during the day.   Only half a pill and it tastes gross!  I took it willingly the first time...not too sure what I will do tomorrow.  Mommy is probably going to have to get creative!  YUCK!  The doctor helped us out by giving us all free samples...thank goodness!  I was a very good boy while there and I got a Thomas stamp on my hand and Daddy took me to McDonald's for lunch!  We got something for Mommy and dropped it off at FunCare...it was funny being there at naptime and not having to sleep!  Anyway, let's hope this medicine helps me sleep better!
Ivan the Terrible
September 18, 2004
So, Hurricane Ivan the category 5 storm that has been wiping out everything in it's path the last few days (Grenada, Jamaica and the Panhandle of Florida are  complete disaster areas) brought it's strong winds and rains our way.  We had a lot of rain and wind through the night.  It was so loud that it woke Mommy around 3AM!  Anyway, when we (I mean Mommy and me...heehee) got up we went on a search for my sandbox lid...whew, found it at the side of the neighbors house!  Mommy thought she better check the basement....and we found about an inch of water!!  UGH!  Mommy got Daddy up and he came down to look.  It seems that the sump pump wasn't working or couldn't keep up.  We didn't know.  All I know is that I had a fun time running around in the water....weeee, swimming pool!  Mommy told Daddy, well, guess we need to look at this through the eyes of a 3-year old.  Almost all of our stuff is in plastic totes...we have some cardboard boxes to replace and we are hoping that the boards to Daddy's pool table dry okay, without warping too badly.
We were about to go get something to start the big clean up process because the water was slowly rising.  Daddy decided to go over to the neighbors.  Thank goodness he did.  Steve knew more about sump pumps so he came and took ours out and got it working again.  Seems the floater switch thing was stuck!  ugh!  Then he and Daddy rigged the outtake pipe at the side of the house to get the water to dump onto the street, instead of back in the ground around the house.  He also had a shop vac for us to use and that thing worked great at sucking up what was left on the floor!  I watched all this fun while playing in my water saturated sandbox...that was sooo much fun!  I kept telling Mommy to "Come on Mommy, play with me, the water is fine!".  So...thank goodness for neighbors....he saved us a lot of time and money!  I think Mommy & me are going to make him some brownies!  We are still calling the builder....because we aren't sure if that pump was ever working properly.  We are just thankful that we were home and it wasn't sooo bad.
Other news...the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg is to crest at 24 feet tomorrow....so, that should cover Front Street.  Still not the worst flood this area has seen though.
A New Tooth!  Finally!
September 20, 2004
Finally, my last 2-year molar has decided to finally break through the gum!  It's only a corner of it but that's enough.  I sure did take my good old time with getting my teeth.   I am glad to be done  with this teething thing for awhile.
Grandparents Wiles & Uncle JG Visit!
September 24-27, 2004
Grammy, Pap-Pap and Uncle JG came in for the weekend!  I was very excited to see them.  Grammy always has some new trains for me and we play them all weekend long!  Mommy seems to think that Grammy likes Thomas just as much as I do!  She got me a really cool car, called a "hand-car"....it pumps up and down as it chugs along the track!  It's cool.
Uncle JG got here really late on Friday so I didn't see him until Saturday morning.  I was a bit shy at first but didn't take me long to get him to play cars with me!  I love to play crash cars!
We had a nice visit (see Saturday's entry) and JG had to leave Sunday but Grammy & Pap-Pap stayed until Monday.  Daddy and me were both sick with the flu on Sunday.  I got pretty sick with fever and vomiting but after that I was okay...weird?  Mommy gave me a bath and then I went to bed.  I hope we didn't make anyone else sick too!  It's not fun.  Mommy and Grammy did some shopping and I got some new clothes for Fall.
Thanks Grammy, Pap and Uncle JG for everything and we hope to see all again soon!

A Day Out with Thomas!
September 25, 2004
Well...I earned it!  A Day out with Thomas!  I worked really hard on learning to use the potty and got lots and lots of stickers that earned me my very own ticket to see and ride Thomas the Tank Engine!!  He was coming to Strausburg and I am going to get to see him!  Mommy, Daddy, Grammy, Pap and Uncle JG were all taking me!  Traffic was pretty busy so we parked and rode a shuttle, school bus, to the train station.  That was fun!  There sure were a lot of people there to see him...he is a pretty famous and popular guy!  We got there just in time to see him chugging down the tracks.  I waved and yelled "Hello!"  Mommy & I walked around while Daddy was picking up our tickets.  We walked down alongside Thomas' coaches and I got down real low to check out his wheels and the track!  They sure were big!  Mommy and me walked down and saw Sir Topham Hatt.  I didn't want to get close...just saw him and said, "wow"...real quiet like.  Kind of surreal for me, I guess.  Finally, it came time to ride the train.  Daddy, Uncle JG and me rode him while Mommy and Grammy did some shopping.  Pap-pap hung out in the shade and visited with all kinds of people.  He had a good time talking with the bus drivers and other people about the amount of money probably spent in that day, the amount of people there and the whole Thomas fascination.  I hope he had a good time.  After the train ride, I marched Uncle JG right into the gift shop and picked out the train I wanted so badly....Harvey, the crane train.  Thanks Uncle JG!!  Grammy got me Edward, so now I have all the main storyline engines (Thomas, Edward, Gordon, Henry, James, Percy and Toby!)  I think that made Grammy feel much better...heehee!  Next, we went around to the different stations that they had set up.  I played with some of the train tables, got a Harold tattoo, had some ice cream, rode the handcars (which were much harder to drive than the ones at Knoebel's), toured the little train museum and rode in a tram train.  Then it was time to go....we had to stand in line for awhile to ride the bus back to the car but that was okay.  I sat with Grammy on the way back and then I got to ride back home with Uncle JG in his "pretty" car!  I fell asleep on the way home.  We got yummy pizza for dinner and that was the end of our fun day!
Thanks for taking me and I had a good time.  I can't wait to go ride trains again some day!
I AM Potty Trained!
September 29, 2004
It's pretty much as official as it's going to be...I AM potty trained!  I go all the time by myself, don't need much help at all except for that whole wiping myself business.  I told Mommy I didn't want to wear pull-ups to bed anymore and I don't.  I don't even use them at daycare for nap anymore.  I will tell you if I have to go and give myself plenty of time to get there.  I haven't had an accident in almost 2 weeks!  I still have my sticker charts but I am usually just to busy and want to get back to playing to worry about them anymore.  I am sure that I will have the occasional accident or two in my future but I will try really hard to not let that happen too often.  It takes too much of my time to clean myself up and get back to "work" when I do.

YAY! For me!  So...what's next?
