October 2004 Journal

We should have a lot of journal entries this month.  October always seems to be our busiest.  Hopefully, the weather cooperates with all we would like to do!

Check in with us often and if it's been awhile since you've dropped us a line on the guest book...be sure to do that too!

Campbelltown Fire Department Open House
October 3, 2004
It's the beginning of Fire Prevention Week and Mommy noticed that our fire department was having an open house...so we went.  We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day...it was sunny and warm with a cool breeze!  I got to see all kinds of fire trucks up close!  There were ladder trucks, rescue trucks, water tankers and fire police vehicles!  They sure were pretty, shiny and red!  I didn't want to try on any fireman clothes but watched other kids do that.  I got to hold a real hose and put out a "fire" and learned how to "stop, drop, cover your face, and roll!".  Mommy helped me with that.  I colored a picture of a fire fighter and won a prize for my age group!  I got a cool Dalmatian fire puppy toy.  Daddy won a door prize too...a pewter mug.  We ate yummy hot dogs, chips and fruit punch too.  It was all free!  But the best fun was getting to climb up on top of the big fire truck and go for a ride around town!  The fireman was blowing all his sirens and making lots of noise so people would come out of their houses and see us.  I had fun waving at everyone!  They even drove around our neighborhood and went right past our house!  I had a good time....it was "almost" as much fun as riding Thomas last weekend!
Dresser Incident :(
October 7, 2004
First thing....I'm okay!  So, I guess I thought I would get out my own pair of pants and underwear from my dresser when Daddy had put me up for my nap.  Not sure why I needed new ones....I just did!  Well....climbing the dresser drawers was not my brightest idea to date....that thing came crashing down faster than I could blink!  First, I kind of just laid there like..."Great Cole...now look what you have done!" "Surely, Daddy had heard that loud noise!? Hmmm?  Is he ever going to get up here?"  "Ah, finally I hear running footsteps up the stairs.  I better yell so he knows what room to go to."  "Daddy...help me!  Help me! Help me!"  I think I scared Daddy half to death...he got the dresser up enough that I could crawl out from under it.  Whew....close one!  Guess I won't be doing that again...well, that is what Mommy is hoping.  Daddy checked me over real good and then again a few hours later and Mommy did again that night.  Nothing broken and only a few scratches on my shoulder.  I was very lucky...however, my piggy bank did not survive the fall...it busted into about 101 pieces!  I also broke the "woo-woo" off of my Thomas lamp, but Daddy was able to fix that for me.  Daddy took the dresser out of my room and we are eventually going to get something else to use that won't tip over so easy.  :)
East Pennsboro Pumpkin Festival
October 9, 2004
A co-worker of Mommy's told her about this festival going on, so we decided to go and check it out.  What a fun day we had!  There was a nice crowd of people there but it wasn't bad at all.  First, I spotted the giant inflatable playground and just had to check it out.  Daddy got me a pass (of course he was sure that we had just spent money on something that I would refuse to go do) and off we went.  It took some convincing to get me to take my shoes off and the whole concept of standing in line was a little rough but we persevered.  First, was the giant elephant with balloons blowing around inside...and it came to be my turn.  I didn't want to go in...but I guess you could say that Mommy pretty much "pushed" me in!  I just kind of stood there...watching everyone like a deer stuck in headlights....and then I saw what fun everyone was having.  I started running around grabbing balloons and bouncing off the walls...it was great!  I didn't want to get out.  Getting out was fun too...you had to climb a ladder and slide down the elephants trunk!  It wasn't too long before I was back in line for that one.  I also enjoyed the giant slide, the moonwalk and the caterpillar obstacle course.  My time was soon up for being in there so we went to check out the rest of the festival.  I got some yummy cotton candy while Mommy and Daddy ate some "crabby-patties"...heehee!  Daddy couldn't resist from doing a couple geocaches that were in the park.  So, Mommy and me looked at the fancy old cars...red ones are my favorite!  They were all so pretty...but NO TOUCHING!  Later, I played a game where I had to pick a pumpkin out of the kiddie-pool and I won a medium prize...a bag of Halloween goodies!  I also played a soccer ball game (which I was a little small for and I think my cuteness and deal of effort) won me a cool blow up soccer ball!  Next, Mommy & me went in the petting zoo!  I could have stayed in there all day!  We petted goats, cows, horses, turtles, chickens, baby ducks, kittens, rabbits and a baby pig!  I had the most fun holding the ducklings and baby rabbits!  After that we got in line to ride the pony!  That was fun and I wasn't nervous at all!  Daddy and Mommy were surprised...but when it comes to animals...I really have no fears!  I told Mommy that I want a big doggie and a little doggie some day!  "We'll see" is all she says.
We really had a fun day.  I was so tired that I fell asleep on the way home.  I hope we will go to this festival again next year!  It was a good and inexpensive time!
Sesame Street Puppet Show
October 13, 2004
Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Ernie and Bert visited FunCare today to teach us all about fire safety.  (Elmo was on vacation at the beach).  We talked about 9-1-1, getting out of your house, not playing with fire or matches and STOP, DROP and ROLL.  Big Bird was trying to teach Cookie Monster how to do that and he kept messing it up!  We had to have some friends go up there and show him how to do it!
It was a funny show and we learned something too!
Welcome Maysen Elizabeth Fisher!
October 14, 2004

Ryan & Melonie welcomed the newest member to their family today!  She weighed 8
pounds 14 ounces and was 22 inches long.  Both Mommy and baby are doing great...
and Ryan is one proud and happy Daddy!
We still have yet to meet her in person and grabbed this photo courtesy of the
Lemmons Family website!

Derrick's 4th Birthday Party!
October 24, 2004
I got invited to Derrick's birthday party!  Mommy took me to it today.  It was at the Paramount Gym, which is just behind our house.  What fun it was!  First, we sat in a circle while the teacher told us all the safety rules.  We ran an obstacle course, jumped into the foam block pits, jumped on trampolines and swung from the uneven bars!  They even had a large blow-up "moonwalk" thing for us to jump in!  We ended the party with pizza and cake!  It was a good time and I was really tired when we got home.  Daddy missed all the fun, he was out playing paintball with the Martinelli family!
Fire Trucks Visit FunCare
October 28, 2004
Today the Linglestown Fire Department came to my school.  They drove their great big white ladder truck right onto our parking lot!  Not to mention driving right through the yellow plastic chain we have up to protect the playground...oops!  Anyway, they talked to us about fire safety and what to do if we get trapped in our house during a fire.  We practiced how to yell, "I'm over here!".  The fireman dressed up in all his gear so we could see that even though he looked "scary" it was just a man trying to help us.  I even got to shake his hand!  Then we all got to go inside the truck and sit in it.  Some of my friends were still sitting in there when they got a real call and had to jump into action!  Boy, were they fast and off they went with sirens blaring!  It was exciting to see!
Tricky Treat!
October 28, 2004
Tonight is trick or treat night!  I will have to admit it took some convincing from Mommy & Daddy to get me to go.  I was excited because Grammy & Pap-Pap were here for a visit and I was convinced it wasn't "Halloween" yet because it wasn't dark outside!  Hey, that is just the way a 3 year old thinks!  Anyway, Mom got me in my costume....Thomas the Tank Engine of course...and out the door we went.  Grammy was left to man the trick or treaters coming to our house.  First, we went to the neighbors next door.  I liked ringing the doorbell but Mommy would have to remind me to stay there and say "Tricky Treat!"  I would take my piece of candy, say THANKS, turn to Daddy and say, "that's enough, let's go home!"  But they convinced me to keep going.  We sure did walk a lot and went to all kinds of houses.  There sure are a lot in this neighborhood and TONS of kids.  Not many made it up to our house, since we are still in the middle of a construction zone.  Anyway, some people get all decked out for this holiday...one house was all dressed up with spooky things and sounds.  There were some kids in front of us kind of mocking the decorations when the "dead man" on the ground grabbed their ankles!  I was really careful when walking up to that house!  It was fun and I wanted to go back!  Plus, I was like a celebrity walking around...everyone took notice of me being Thomas!  I got all kinds of compliments on my costume!
Whew...what a night!  I got all kinds of candy and tons of M&M's...my favorite!  I was sure to share some of my candy with Grammy & Pap!
Grandparents Wiles Visit
October 28-November 2, 2004
Grammy & Pap-Pap came to stay with Mommy & me for the weekend while Daddy went to visit our friend, Caia.   She lives in Canada...Montreal to be exact.  Daddy and Bernie drove up there together.  Mommy couldn't get off of work to go and Caia isn't really up for visits of the 3year old type.  That's okay...we had a nice relaxing weekend.  Mommy and Grammy did some shopping while Pap-pap and I played.  We drew trains and built castles.  I had a lot of fun watching the Steelers game with Grammy.  She's pretty funny and gets excited.  We were tossing around my "Terrible Toddler Towel" and yelling "Defense!"  Pap says it's because of us that they won!
It was a nice visit and I hope to see them again soon....maybe for Thanksgiving.
