January 2005 Journal

Well,  another year has come and gone already!  This year should be a fun one.  I love January because it usually means snow and the Farm show comes to town!  YAY!

Happy New Year ~ 2005 !!
December 31, 2004- January 1, 2005
We actually went out for New Year's Eve this year.  The Hartley's had a little get together at their house.  The Fisher's joined us too.  I was a little disappointed that my "best friend" Sam wasn't there...but I still had a good time.  I took my trains :).  The grown-ups ate a lot of good food.  They sure do like to do that!  I ate the chocolate and Darrin's Skittles (oops, I'll have to get him a new bag).  We played games and mostly visited.  Maysen is getting bigger every time we see her.  It's been nice to see her grow up!  We all said that we would try to keep this "getting together" more often thing going.  Melonie brought her s'more maker and we did that!  I liked cooking the marshmallows but I would give them away when I was done.  I was real careful not to catch mine on fire like Darrin did!  Plus, I got to stay up real late and we watched this shiny ball drop in New York City and everyone counted backwards and we all yelled...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  It was a fun time!  Jen and Mommy said we would get together next when the Steelers go to the SuperBowl!!
Geocaching One-Year Anniversary!
January 1, 2005
Wow...it's been one whole year that we have enjoyed our new hobby of Geocaching.  Since then we have managed to get a few other people into the "sport", Uncle Mark, Grandma & Pa-Pa, and I think the Rice Family may be getting their feet wet soon (literally, if they go after a rain storm...heehee!).
Anyway, we have been working with a journalist on a story for the Lebanon Daily News.  We took her out last month and today we went with the photographer, Gordon.  He was really nice and totally up for the adventure.  We thought he would just want to get some posed pics at home but actually this was much nicer.  I did a pretty good job but the last few feet of the hike was rough, Daddy had to carry me.  There were a lot of jaggers and rocks....we all got scratched up a bit...but I found the cache.  This one was in sad shape...I hope someone cleans it up soon.  The box had been chewed on by some kind of animal....no wonder, someone had put food in it.  You are not supposed to do that!  Well, we did get a travel bug from it and I wanted the golf tees (Mommy laughs, you never know what is going to intrigue me!).  Oh, did I mention that it was a beautiful day today...in the 60's!  We didn't even need to wear coats!  We did wear our blaze orange though, since it was hunting season!
This marks our 310th find!  Wonder how many we will get this year?  I would hope to double it by next year or even reach 1000 by 2006.  Now, that would be a challenge!
I'm 3 1/2 Years Old Today!
January 6, 2005
It's hard to believe that I am going to be FOUR this year!  Mommy says that I am growing like a bad weed and becoming more and more independent every day.  Not sure if that is always a good thing.  Things I think I should be allowed to do, I am not.  Although, I don't give up without a fight!  Daddy says I get my determination (I really think that they like to use the word stubbornness) from my Pa-Pa.  Heehee!

So, what's been going on with me lately?  I am still having issues with sleeping in my room.  I don't like my car bed anymore, it's too small and it's "scary".  We have been talking a lot about colors for my room lately, so I think we may actually buy some paint and fix it up for me soon.  We (well, I know what I want...black & red!) aren't really sure what we are doing yet.  I think I might get "Grammy's" bed, Mommy's old bed, moved into my room.  We might keep it like it is...or just move in the mattresses and put them on the floor.  Heck, that is where I have been wanting to sleep the last few days anyway.  I like to put all my blankets and pillows down and it's like I am camping!  Mommy doesn't want to go and get me a new bed, if I am just going to sleep on the floor!  I have been doing better with staying in my room.  I still like to come in Mommy & Daddy's room if it is raining hard or really windy out.  The wind howls like nothing I have ever heard before.  Mommy says it's because we have no trees around.  Plus, sometimes I can sneak in their room and be sleeping on the floor beside their bed and they don't even know it!
I have also been having a lot of fun of being very un-cooperative.  I don't really like to do anything I am told now without some kind of resistance.   If I can put it off as long as possible, that's great!  However, Mommy & Daddy don't let me get away with it for too long.  I don't like to be put in time-out, so it usually only takes one time of that or even the threat of it.  Now, we have seemed to start this whole counting to 3 thing.  I haven't quite caught on to how that works yet...but am getting it.  Daddy takes a bit longer to get to 3 than Mommy does...heehee!  Don't tell them I've noticed that!

Well, it wasn't that long ago that I did an "all about me" update in my journal.  Nothing that new has happened.  Not sure if I am getting my picture taken or not.  We did just get one at Christmas so we may just have to wait until I turn 4.  Daddy is still looking for work, right now, just for something that will pay the bills and hopefully get us some health insurance!  Mommy (and me) still are working full time at FunCare.  We go Tuesday-Friday, working ten hour days.  The days are long, but it gives us the extra day in the weekend...and I am so busy learning and playing that I don't mind at all!  I love my friends there!

See ya later!

Sesame Street Live
January 8, 2005
Well, we didn't think we were going to the Sesame Street Live show this year...but you never know how life is going to go some days.  Mommy had a parent give her free tickets to the show on Friday!  They were unable to go and just wanted someone to use them!  How nice was that?  I was so excited to hear that we were going!  We had really good seats too!
This years show was called, Down-to-Earth-Fun!  It was about an average “sunny day” becoming extraordinary when Terry, Sesame Street’s fix-it girl, and her Muppet friends taught their intergalactic visitors, the "Yup-Yups", all about Earth. Grover shared some of his recent global adventures, and we learned that Sesame Street is internationally loved. The show included popular segments such as “Elmo’s World” and “Journey to Ernie,” (my favorite and he was hidden inside a BIG rubber ducky!).  Plus, they had the letter (Y) and number (2) of the day!  Mommy & Daddy said the show and the Sesame Street Live friends taught us how much we have in common regardless of the languages we speak, the way we look, or even the way we dance.  It was a fun and entertaining show!  I was really intrigued by the lighting and special effects...heehee!  The only down-side was that I fell asleep near the end of the show...so I never got to see how the "Yup-Yups" got back to their planet!  I was not very happy during the car ride home to learn that it was over and I missed it!  Mommy told me, but that just wasn't the same :(.

The 2005 Pennsylvania State Farm Show
January 10, 2005
Can you believe that this is my 4th trip to the Farm Show.  I really had a great time there!  First, we went to see all the farm equipment.  I sat on and tried every single one that I could out.  Mommy said the people in charge of moving then when the show is over, better check all the buttons and levers first!  They even had the cabs open on some of the really huge ones!  Daddy had to help me climb a ladder to get in the John Deere one.  Daddy said we should get two of them...they only cost half a million dollars!
Next, it was time to eat.  That is really what the farm show is all about for us "non-farmers".  They have the best home-made foods!  We (of course, you can't go to the Farm Show without getting one) had yummy milkshakes!  Daddy and Mommy had mushrooms, fish sandwiches and cheese sticks.
Then we checked out all the animals.  We saw the cows, chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits, baby chicks being hatched and the pigs.  The horses were all in the back barn, or something...they must have been keeping them out this day...bummer :(.
We walked through the "display" area and I saw all kinds of cool things.  That giant canoe made from a tree was back this year.  We saw a large scale model of  the Harrisburg Dairy Farm and a train set.  It took awhile to drag me from that one!  I got to hold a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, that Daddy would not do!  Everyone around thought that was pretty funny!  He wasn't very scary, just his legs were kind of scratchy on my hand.  Anyway, they had a new kids section next and we had fun in there.  I got to use a water pump and fill a bucket, toss some corn cobs in the pigs mouth, visit with some clowns, play in a "corn table" and ride a merry-go-round!
Daddy bought me a yummy soft pretzel and then it was time to go.  We had such a nice time and I was a very good boy!  I was tired and of course, fell asleep in the car on the ride home.  Oh, did I tell you that I wore my Steelers #7 Roethlisberger jersey!  We sure did get all kinds of attention from that.  There are a lot of Steelers fans in Central PA!

Our Geocaching Article ~ The Lebanon Daily News
January 11, 2005
As some of you already know, we have been working with a freelance writer on an article about geocaching.  She wanted to introduce people to this new sport and wanted a "fun family, with a good sense of humor" to help.  So, of course, she asked us!  Heehee!  She liked a photo that Daddy had taken of me, with all my bags of trash we had collected and the caption read: "Somewhere an Indian weeps".  My Daddy is so clever!  Anyway, we took her along with us in December and answered a lot of questions...I showed them how good I am at finding the "hidden treasures".  Then earlier this month, we went out with the photographer and he took lots of pictures of us.
We really had no idea how the article was going to be written, how many pictures would be used or when it would come out in print.
Well, Holly emailed us and said it would be in today's paper!  Daddy ran out and bought all the copies....no, just a few!  We were shocked to find our mugs on the front page!  The article was actually in the next section and when we turned to that....our pictures were everywhere and the article was pretty large...and good too!  Nice job, Holly!
Daddy will soon get the article scanned on here and probably make it a separate link on the site...so be sure to check back often to see it. (visit link)

**First Snow of the Season!**
January 16, 2005
We finally got some snow around here that accumulated!  Well, not even an inch so we aren't really sure that this should count!  It started in the evening so I didn't even get to go out and enjoy it!  I wanted to but Daddy had already given me my bath and dressed me for bed!  Plus, I am getting over strep throat.  Mommy said I could go outside tomorrow and play in it...if it last that long!
I think they are calling for more snow sometime this week.  Maybe it will amount to something!  Daddy and Mommy got me a sled and I don't even know if I will get to use it or not!
I say...**LET IT SNOW!**
Playing in the Snow
January 20, 2005
It finally snowed enough to count!  I have been staying home with Daddy all week just to let myself heal from my sore throat, which has been all better for a while now.  Anyway, Daddy and me went outside and tried out my sled!  We took it out back on our little hill.  Weeee!  What fun!  I would carry my sled up the hill and Daddy would help me with a push and whoosh....down I would go!  It was so much fun!  Daddy got a video clip of it too!  Be sure to check it out!  I can't wait to go again.

Play-off Football Games
January 23, 2005
The Fisher's joined us to watch the football games today.  The Philadelphia Eagles vs. The Atlanta Falcons and The Pittsburgh Steelers vs. The New England Patriots.  We ate yummy hot dogs, chips, brownies and soda (or what I like to call, "beer").  Congrats to the Eagles...good game and good luck in the SuperBowl.  At least one PA team will be heading to Jacksonville this year!  The Steelers however, PA-THE-TIC!  I cheered and waved my "terrible toddler towel" as hard as I could! I think Mommy gave up after the 2nd interception...."you can't make it to the SuperBowl playing like that!"  Too bad....another let down again in my short little life.  Will we ever see the Steelers in another SuperBowl?  Will Bettis, "the Bus" retire?  OH NO!!!  Well...it was a good run for them, just too bad they couldn't have made the game more of a challenge for the Pats.  Better luck next year boys!
