2005 Journal
Holy
HOT Summer! It's been a scorcher this year! We
have been trying to stay cool.
Things have slowed down a bit so who knows what we will have
in store for this month! I think Mommy & Daddy said
we would maybe visit a zoo, amusement park and maybe go
camping.

What
Have I Been Up To?
August
4, 2005 |
Well...let me
see. I am growing like a bad weed, Mommy thinks that I've had
a growth spurt this summer. Tall and thin just like my Uncle
Allen. I will be wearing size 4's in pants and 5T in shirts
this Fall.
I am still a very picky eater but have been eating better. I
do a much better job with eating meat at school. I will eat
hot dogs, sausage, chicken nuggets and meatballs there but not
usually at home. Now, those vegetable things...forget it!
I love my superhero toys...especially batman and Teen Titans.
I am still playing with my Thomas trains a lot too. I like to
catch bug and put them in my habitat that I got for my
birthday. I enjoy my new swing set and still love digging in
my sandbox. I love to play games on the computer and with my
v-smile game system. Like father, like son.
My new thing is "break dancing". I saw these guys
doing it on TV and now I want to be able to do it. I can't
spin on my head like they do yet. My floor isn't slippery
enough. Daddy wants to get a video clip of my dancing.
He says it's because it's so good.
I've been learning this new thing called "chores" this
summer. I help to put dishes in the sink and dishwasher and
put them away. I help Daddy take out the trash and put it on
the curb. I am also in charge of putting away my toys and
remembering to feed the fish. Mommy got me a chart that we are
going to hang up to help keep track.
Well...that's about it for now. I am a busy guy and need to go
do something!

Washington
DC Zoo
August
6, 2005 |
We visited Aunt
Susan & Uncle Allen today and all decided to make a road trip to
the zoo in DC. I was very excited about going. I think
my Aunt and Uncle are just great! We rode in the car to the
Metro station and Aunt Susan read me stories along the way, making
funny voices and everything. She was pretty good at
that! This was my first time on a subway train....it was
pretty neat! I sat with Uncle Allen and we talked the whole
way to the zoo stop! I told him it needed to go
faster.
We got to the zoo and saw all kinds of animals. We actually
got to see the new "daddy panda" up walking around!
We were all excited about that. You get so used to just seeing
animals laying around at zoos and not doing much of anything.
The new "mommy panda" and her baby boy were not on exhibit
because of the heat. That's okay, we saw lots of pictures of
them. Some of my favorite animals were: the Emu that
tried to poke us through the fence, the monkeys that were sitting
right up against the glass, the lion that was taking drinks of
water, the tiger that was swimming and the prairie dogs, they were
funny and cute! I was pretty well behaved too. Just
minimal complaining about being tired, hungry and hot...but who
wasn't!?! We got our usual souvenir magnet and I picked out a
stuffed snake! He's blue-ish purple, rattles and it awesome!
We headed for home on the Metro around 6ish and got Uncle Allen's
around 8. I wanted to stay and play but we needed to head back
home. Mommy and Daddy said we would try and get there again,
so I can play and ride Uncle Allen's new ATV with him. Just
have to remember my helmet! I can't wait!

Horseshoe
Trail - Hike #2
August
6, 2005 |
Darrin and I
(Daddy that is) got to the trail and bright and early this
morning. Again we forgot to pack dry socks, which was a bad
idea. Today's goal was 8 miles, from Stoney Creek, over
Mountain #2 (yes, that's the name) and down to Manada. The
hike started off ok, until about 1/4 mile into it when we ran into a
creek that was supposed to have a suspension bridge over it for us
to cross. It apparently had washed out, and only a couple
signs of it remained. After attempting to cross on rocks, we
decided they were way to slippery, so we waded across in bare
feet. The stones were very sharp and hurt our feet
tremendously. Not a good start. Shortly after I stepped
in some muck and had to deal with wet feet the rest of the
day. After a long 2 mile hike to the top of the mountain
following a pipeline, it was relatively smooth sailing down the
other side. Along the way there were lots of blackberries, but
they weren't quite ripe. Apparently the bears think they are
ripe enough because there was lots of droppings along the way.
We didn't see any bears though. After we arrived at the
bottom, we attempted a few geocaches that were in the area...finding
2 out of 3. I guess I need to go back out that way to find the
other one, but thankfully there is closer parking than where we
parked to start our hike. About 4 miles into the hike, I
wasn't feeling very well and was afraid I was dehydrated or had heat
exhaustion, but thankfully it passed. The trail was very
pretty and isolated, but there wasn't anything out of the ordinary,
so I didn't take too many pictures. We did see lots of birds,
squirrels, chipmunks, and one deer who didn't seem at all
intimidated by us. The total hike....8 miles....took us about
5 hours to complete. Again, had a great time.
Unfortunately the next section is about 7 miles along roads.
I'm tempted to skip it and just continue in wooded sections, but
then I wouldn't be able to say I hiked the entire trail. Oh
well.

My
Caterpillar ~ Earl
August
23, 2005 |
I caught a
caterpillar in my "bug sucker" today! He kept
running in front of Daddy while he was trying to mow the
grass. He is fuzzy and brown. Mommy said he will either
turn into a butterfly or moth...we aren't sure. He has been a
lot of fun to watch. He holds on to pieces of grass with his
front legs and chews away...then crawls to the water I put in for a
drink! I keep asking Mommy when he will turn into a "raccoon"?
UPDATE: 8/28 Earl has made him self a "raccoon"
(cocoon). He is quite boring to watch now but Mommy said it
will take quite a few days before and if we will see him do anything
else. We'll keep you posted!

Uncle
Mark Visits
August
24-29, 2005 |
Uncle Mark came
to visit us for a few days. It was nice seeing him
again. I really don't like that he lives so far away. We
played a lot of games together, did some geocaching and he showed me
some pretty cool card tricks. I tried doing them and they just
don't work for me...bummer :(. I especially think it's weird
how he can take his finger off! That's just plain crazy!
I hope he comes back soon and can stay for much longer...I don't
feel like I saw him much this time around.

Carnival
Day at FunCare
August
26, 2005 |
Today was the
last day of summer vacation for some of the older kids at
daycare...so they had a "carnival" for the whole
building. We played bowling games, had wagon rides, ate snow
cones, got our faces painted ( I wouldn't do that of course!) and
helped to dunk the teachers in a dunking booth! Mommy dunked
her co-teacher Ms. Shauntell...it was funny to watch!
My first day of pre-school is on Monday! YAY!

Geocaching
Event - Dog Days Ending
August
27, 2005 |
Uncle Mark,
Mommy, Daddy and me did a little geocaching this morning and then we
went to the UnderDog Family Bar & Grill for an event
cache. It was a lot of fun, the hosts had toys there for the
kids to pick. I got a Lego Car kit. It's awesome!
Everyone ordered some really good food, Daddy only spilled one soda
all over the floor and "Shifty" (fellow cacher) showed us
how he juggles. We took some pics of him doing that and a few
videos that are really cool!
Everyone had a really nice time! And I was super well
behaved! :)

My
First Day of Preschool
August
29, 2005 |
Today was my
first day of pre-school. Miss Carol is my teacher and I am in
a class with all my friends: Patrick, Lyle, Kyle, Taylor, Hope,
Isaac, Brandon, Owen, and Maleyah. This week we are talking
about "Myself". Mommy & me had
"homework" to do...it was an "All About Me"
poster. I worked really hard on it...answering questions and
drawing pictures for it. Today in class we had to draw a
picture of ourselves...I wasn't so sure what color my hair was...so
I looked in the mirror and decided that I should make it
"yellow" and my eyes are blue. It was a fun
day. I was so tired that I fell asleep before story
time!
I wonder what fun things we will do tomorrow?!

Day ~ Squares and Rectangles
August
30, 2005 |
Miss Carol told
us to bring in something from home to "share" that has
rectangles and/or squares on it. Mommy, Daddy and me thought
and thought about it. We came up with a few ideas but the one
I picked was a HERSHEY BAR! Daddy got me enough to give one to
all of my friends and I told everyone in circle time how it's a
rectangle, then if you break it, there are 2 squares and if you
break it again, there are little rectangles! We got to have my
treat for afternoon snack and Miss Carol let me "teach"
everyone how to do it. I did a great job! Mommy got a
picture with a disposable camera and we hope that it came out.
