October 2005 Journal

We are always busy in October.  Seems to get worse each year!  But hey, we are having fun!

Planning on a get together with friends, Daddy has a geocaching trip planned, lots of stuff going on at my "school" and you can't forget all the Fall and Halloween stuff!  YAY!

Letter "N" Day
October 4, 2005
Mommy & me worked hard on my homework for this day.  It was letter "N" day and we painted some noodles and made a necklace.  It was fun picking out what colors I was going to use to paint them and then stringing them all on once the paint had dried.  We were singing while we were working too....."noodle, necklace...noodle, necklace...".

Lots of my friends brought things in like" Nerds, nuts, noodles, nails and necklaces".  We had to cut out big letter N's and glue nuts on them and draw something else that begins with "N".  I drew noodles.  Ms. Carol says I do a good job with my scissors.  I can write the letter "N" now too.  "Up, down, up"...."Up, down, up".

Game Night with Friends
October 7, 2005
It was a long overdue time for a party.  We all got together at the Hartley's tonight.  The Fisher's were there and so were the Lemmons.  It was nice to see everyone again and I was especially excited to see Sam!  They were late getting in because the traffic in and around DC was bad, plus the weather was horrible.  It must have rained all day long and night too! (See next entry)
Anyway, we all ate lots of food, as usual.  Mostly the grown-ups talked a lot.  Sam and I played hard.  We ran around for a bit, laughed a lot, played some video games and a game of Uno Attacks.  I ended up winning that game.  It was fun!
It finally got pretty late and Mommy & Daddy decided it was time to go home.  I of course, was not happy about it, insisted that I was NOT tired...and fell asleep in the car on the way home.  Zzzzz

Mommy put me into bed.....then Daddy yelled for her..............
When It Rains...It Pours!
October 7, 2005
We haven't had any rain for sooo long.  It had actually been weeks, but today it rained and rained and rained some more.  Daddy checked the sump pump before we left for the party and it was fine.  Actually, not even running yet because nothing was even coming in the pipe yet.  That was around 6pm.
We got home a little after 1am and Daddy could hear the pump running, so he figured he would run downstairs and check things.  Good thing he did!  The pump was working fine and doing its job...however, it was pumping so much and so well, that where the builders put the drain pipe outside (which is right beside the house and next to the window well) was over saturating the yard, so the window was filling up with water and that was pouring into the basement, down the wall and onto the floor.  Thankfully, we have most things down there in some kind of plastic and thank goodness we checked on things and as soon as we did.
Mommy & Daddy rigged up some kind of "quick fix" of PVC pipe and Duct Tape and it did the trick.  The "flooding" stopped in a matter of minutes and things have gotten dried out.  It's been raining for a few more days and it's still okay.
Hopefully, we have this all figured out so we can safely finish the basement some day.
FunCare Learning Center...SOLD!
October 9, 2005
Well, Mommy had a meeting this afternoon.  I got to go along because Daddy was away.  I played in Mommy's classroom while she had her meeting.  She can fill you in.

Yea, Judy had told us a few weeks ago about this "meeting" we needed to come to on Sunday.  She was sorry it had to be a "Sunday" but that was when it had to be.  Couldn't tell us what it was about, it wasn't mandatory but highly recommended that we go.  Hmmmm?  Well, speculations and rumor flew those 2 weeks at work.  I can't say that we were surprised but were still in shock when the truth FINALLY came out.  In a nutshell.  The daycare has a new owner, Holly.   We have a new name Discovery Lane Childcare.  Nothing is "supposed" to change.  Well, nothing major.  I would imagine that a new person is going to have some new ideas and of course she should have.  It's really hard to say anymore than that.  People are still a bit in "shock".  Parents too.  Of course, they were a bit more shocked to find out that staff had no idea either.  Staff is in good spirits and kind of excited about a "new start".  I guess I will just keep a positive attitude and we'll see what happens!

Linglestown Fire Company Visits "Discovery Lane"
October 11, 2005
I had an exciting day at school today.  The local fire station came to see us.  They brought there big truck and a few of the fire fighters.  We talked about all kinds of fire safety rules.  We got to meet "Fireman Rob" see/feel that he was a real friendly person and then watched him put on each piece of his fireman "outfit".  He looked different and sounded like Darth Vader in that thing!  But we were to remember that it was still friendly fireman Rob in there.  Next, we got to sit in the fire truck and blow the horns, lights and siren.  It was a fun day and the rain stayed away too.  All the kids in the whole center got to see it...even the babies!  To top things off, we all got cool hats, badges and tattoos from the firemen!  It was a fun day.

Letter "F" Day!
October 12, 2005
Today was letter "F" day.  It took me a while to figure out what I was going to bring.  Daddy helped me and we picked...Flashlight!  Mommy & me have fun playing "Say a word that starts with F" on the way to and from "school".

We also made Fire Truck cookies and watched a fire truck video today!  We cut out letter F's and everyone shared their letter F items.  Some friends brought, frogs, flowers, fire trucks, flags and "Floam".

Happy Birthday Maysen!
October 15, 2005
Today was Maysen's ONE year old birthday party.  She turned the big ONE yesterday!  Her party was nice.  I had a lot of fun running around with other kids there, eating pizza, cake and helping to open presents.  She got a lot of nice things.  I got her a "HotWheels" (it was a bigger plastic, safe for babies one), Baby Einstein DVD and a book.  She is starting to walk now too.  It was funny to watch her do her side-step walk.  Plus, she wasn't shy when it came time to eat her cake.  She had icing EVERYWHERE!

Happy Birthday Maysen!

Some "City" Caching!
October 16, 2005
It FINALLY stopped raining and we could get out and about to do some geocaching.  Today we went back down to the capital building in Harrisburg.  We had a travel bug that wanted to go there, so we stopped and took some pictures.  I loved the fountain, but it was soo windy.  You had to be careful and fast or you would get soaked!  We did some other caches around the city too.  I think we did a total of 4.  We only need to do 2 more to reach 500!  Wow, that's a lot!  We are hoping to do that this week before the event cache we are going to on Thursday.

Today, I had a fun time "gooey-caching", you never know when that is going to happen.  heehee.

Letter "J" Day
October 19, 2005
Today was letter "J" day, so I took some of Grandma's homemade "jelly".  We even had some of it  for snack.   It was yummy.
Some friends brought jump ropes, jackets and jellybeans!  We had to cut out the letter "J" and "face" pieces so we could make "Jack-o-lantern J's".  That was fun!

"World Class" Geocache Event
October 20, 2005
Tonight we went to a geocaching event at the Red Robin in Hershey.  There were geocachers from all over attending.  The "event" was organized by CCCooperAgency in recognition of geoPirat (Carsten Fischer) who holds the record for the most finds in a 24 hour period (63 finds and 6 DNF's)  He came from Kassel Germany to do some geocaching.  He said that he really enjoyed his visit here and meeting us.  I had a good time eating spaghetti and a milkshake.  I also had fun playing with some of the kids that were there.  Even though I fell into the wall and gave myself quite the "goonie".  Oh well.  Been awhile since I've had one of those.
I had fun.  Mommy said that we should be going to another one around Christmas time!

Derrick's 5th Birthday Party
October 23, 2005
My friend, Derrick is 5 now.  He had a party to celebrate.  Daddy & me went.  It was at the Paramount Gym and it was a fun time.  We did a lot of gymnastic stuff.  I had fun running around the obstacle course, jumping in the big "sponge pool", jumping on trampolines and playing with the parachute.  He had a "The Incredible's" party, lots of pizza and cake for us to eat!

It was a fun day!  Thanks Derrick, for inviting me and I hope you had a happy birthday!

Pumpkin Carving
October 24, 2005
Tonight Mommy, Daddy and me cut open 2 of the pumpkins we bought.  We did a great big one and a little one for in the house.  I didn't want to scoop out the "guts" this year with my hands, so I used a spoon instead.  Mommy & Daddy weren't afraid, and got in there good!  I helped to draw the face for the big one and Daddy and me cut it out.  It's a silly face and he is saying, "ah-oh, spaghetti-o's are all over the table!"  (Yea, Mommy and Daddy don't get it either!).  Daddy cut a happy face in the little one.  I helped to light the candles and now we have 2 happy jack-o-lanterns decorating my house!
Happy Halloween!

Halloween Party
October 25, 2005
We had our Halloween party at school today.  It was fun!  My friends all had cool costumes too.  Miss Carol thought that I was pretty spooky in my skeleton costume.  Or as I like to say, "sketolen"!  We walked around outside in our costumes for all the parents and family to see our costumes.  My class help to walk Mommy's class around, they are just little guys and we didn't want any of them to run away.  We went back inside and had fun playing games like, pin the nose on the pumpkin, musical chairs and something else I can't remember.  We ate a big lunch of all kinds of "junk"!  Mommy & me made chocolate cupcakes and decorated them to look like spiders.  I can't believe we didn't get a picture of the finished products!  Anyway, they were chocolate, with chocolate frosting, covered in chocolate sprinkles with licorice legs and M&M eyes!  Everyone thought they were yummy!
It was a fun day!

HersheyPark in the Dark
October 26, 2005
Tonight we went to Hershey Park!  I LOVE Hershey Park!  I dressed in my Thomas costume from last year because I accidentally left my skeleton costume at school...oops!  I rode all my favorite rides and even got Mommy to go on the Ferris Wheel!  I got lots of candy on their trick or treat trail.  My favorite ride was the spooky train!  There were goblins, skeletons and ghosts along the ride!  It was a cold but fun night!  I can't wait to go for Christmas CandyLane!

Trick or Treat!
October 31, 2005
Our trick or treat night was tonight.  I was kind of bummed that Daddy was out of town on business but Mommy & me had a fun time.  I RAN up to all the houses.  Everyone thought my costume was great!  Again, for the 4th time in a row, we passed NO ONE with the same costume!  Mommy likes that, I could care less.  Anyway, I live in a great neighborhood, everyone gets so into it.  Mostly everyone was sitting outside on their porches or in front of their garages.  Some are dressed in full-blown costumes ( I didn't know grown-ups liked to dress up too!), some have spooky music playing, while others have their houses all decorated and one neighbor (I call it the spooky house) converted their garage into a "haunted house".  You had to walk through this small tunnel and it was all foggy and dark.  There was a table with skulls, bats, candles, and big rats all over the floor!  Two "friendly" monsters gave me some candy!  Mommy told them how I LOVE to see the spooky house when we drive by every day on our way to work.  I did a good job walking around without too much complaint, the only problem was that my bucket was getting too heavy.  Next year, Mommy said she will take a bag so I can empty it half-way through.  I wanted to get back and help pass out candy, I actually think that part is fun too!  So, after an hour, we headed home.  Most of the candy Mommy left on the porch was gone, but we only had a few more trick or treaters come to the house.  The weather couldn't have been better and it was a fun night.  Just sorry that Daddy had to miss it, but I saved him a Butterfinger!
