January 2006 Journal

Happy New Year!

Looking forward to some snow falling, The PA Farm Show and some birthday parties!  There is even talk of ice skating and a sledding trip to Ski Round Top!  We'll see.

Happy 2006!
January 1, 2006
We spent the day together as a family.  I spent some more time working on my box house, we watched another King Kong movie, Mommy made a dinner of sauerkraut and pork.  I just had a hot dog.  I finally got to make my volcano explode over and over again!
We talked about "resolutions".  It's been suggested to me that I work on being a better listener and not use my "sassy mouth".....what?! I would like to learn to ride my bike and maybe take a trip to see Uncle Mark and my buddy, Sam.  Mommy & Daddy talked about the usual....lose some weight (which they have already been doing) and getting the house looking like a "home".  That is the big one for this year.  I have a feeling there is going to be some painting going on around here!  Let's hope...my room is the only one of color and we are all getting tired of the white walls!  I think the "plan" is to do the living room first.

Happy New Year!  We wish everyone the best!
Geocaching ~ 2nd Anniversary
January 2, 2006
Although, yesterday (the 1st) was our 2 year anniversary of this hobby, we didn't get out until today.  We should have gone yesterday because the weather was so much nicer...but we persevered in the rain.  However, Daddy did much better than Mommy and me.  We waited some out in the car!  It was nice to get back in the swing of it...we haven't' gone since before Thanksgiving!

We should set a goal of 1000 finds by 2007!  Only 469 to go!  Guess I should tell Daddy about this....:)

Plus, Daddy has some new and interesting ideas for caches he is going to place soon!  He's becoming quite "famous" in the "caches you MUST do!" category of the sport!  Go Daddy!
I am 4 1/2 Years Old Today!
January 6, 2006
Can you believe that I will be FIVE this year and old enough to begin Kindergarten?  Where did the time go?

A year ago I was having issues with sleeping in my room.  Not anymore...I have my own big boy bed that I love.  I still like to leave the light on, but Mommy or Daddy turn them off when they go to bed and I keep them that way.

I love to play games on the computer or with my game systems.  I like to build things like the "constructions" say they should be built.  I can write my name all by myself, I completely dress myself...snow suit too!  I comb my hair and brush my teeth.  I even will cook my own waffles for breakfast.  I still like to make people laugh and even have a joke or too I like to tell.  I like to test the rules and limits, have selective hearing and NOTHING IS MY FAULT!  I am still very amused by body functions and the sounds I can make!  (Mommy and Daddy are not big fans of this!)  Hey, not everything is glamorous, but it's all part of growing up!  I am doing really well in "preschool".  Learning my letters and I enjoy counting things.  My favorite toys are still my cars and Thomas stuff.  I love to read books at bedtime and watching movies.  I still love the Simpsons!  They are my favorite and only show that makes me stop what I am doing and come running when I hear the show begin.  I hate waiting for things...if it's longer than 5 minutes, you will hear about it.  I don't like gong to bed or going to get a bath...I'm okay once I am in there.  I definitely don't like being told no or having a time-out.  I don't like to stop playing to have to use the bathroom or having to eat.  I am still only eating limited things...and vegetables you can forget about.  I still enjoy the quiet snuggle time and telling Mommy & Daddy that I love them!

Mommy says I weigh 38 pounds and am around 42 inches tall!  I am wearing size 5T in shirts and 4T in pants.  My shoe size is about a 9 1/2 and maybe 10 soon.  Mommy thinks my feet grew this month!

I will be going to the doctors this month to set up my follow-up for my kidney.  So, we will know more this month and next how things are going with that.  There were some questions of concern at my last one 6 months ago.  If the results are the same or worse, we will be seeing another specialist.  We will keep you posted with that.

Well....I need to go play with something.....see ya soon!
Nolan's 2nd Birthday Party
January 7, 2006
Today we went to a party for Nolan.  He is the younger brother of my friend, Derrick.  His actual birthday is in December but due to illness, his party got delayed.
I had a fun time playing with Derrick.  He has a lot of toys.  We played fun games at Nolan's party and I won a lollipop.  We ate yummy pizza and cake.  He got a lot of nice gifts and really like the stuffed puppy and book that I got him
The PA State Farm Show
January 8, 2006
Daddy took me to the Farm Show today.  Mommy stayed home because she was sick.  But that's ok, since we had fun anyways.  There weren't as many tractors (my favorite part) as last year, but I still had fun pretending to drive the ones they did have.  We also got to see lots of animals, like pigs, cows, and this baby calf that was great.  They also had bunnies and these baby ducklings that would climb up these steps to get food, then push each other off down a slide into the water below.  It was pretty funny, and I watched them for a long time.  And of course we also got our milkshakes....yummy!

Letter W Day
January 10, 2006
Today was "W" day at school.  We had taken a break from our letters for the holidays but we are now back on track!  I debated on whether or not to take "water" or "white paint".  I opted for the paint.  I did a good job of remember to say it was "white" rather than just calling it paint.  Mommy & me practiced that in the car on the way to school.

Other "w" things we talked about were: watches, walrus, wash, water, windows and watermelon.

We cut out the letter W and decorated them to look like watermelons.  We have been practicing writing the letter, big and small and writing other "w" words.  I have been doing pretty good.  Sometimes I mess up and make them upside down...oops.
Kyle's Birthday Party
January 14, 2006
I was invited to Kyle's (a friend from "school") birthday party.  It was at a bowling alley.  I had never been bowling before and was excited to go!  Daddy took me and was going to leave me there by myself (for the first time ever, a party by myself!).  However, we were just getting ready to bowl and Daddy wanted to take some pictures, I managed to smash my finger between two bowling balls!  OUCH!  Of course, I was a wreck after that.  I did NOT want Daddy to leave, I did NOT want to bowl, and I did NOT want to party!  Eventually, I came around and joined in with my friends and had a really fun time.  I even bowled a couple of times, but we ran out of time!
It was a nice party and a lot of my friends were there.  We ate some yummy food and cake too!  Daddy said we would try and go bowling again soon.
Bowling with Mommy & Daddy
January 15, 2006
We were thinking of something to do today and I asked if we could go bowling again and Mommy said, "SURE!".  We went to the lanes in Palmyra, they have a good deal on Sundays, I guess.  Anyway...we had a lot of fun.  I used bumpers and scored a 62!  I did get the ball down there a few times without hitting them, but mostly I really needed them to help me out.  I am learning to NOT throw the ball and to roll it.  It is a lot of fun to run up there and let it go!  I told Mommy, "I am going to bowl like Homer Simpson and if one is still standing I will shoot it down like Chief Wigham!"  Mommy and Daddy bowled too!  They haven't been bowling since before I was born!  They did okay, Mommy won but only by 2 pins!  Mommy had a 122 and Daddy  a 120.  I believe we got a printout copy of our scores that we will get scanned on here...someday.

We had a great time and I can't wait to go again!  This may become a regular activity for us now.
Geocaching & "DelaWhere?" Event
January 15, 2006
There was a geocaching event tonight in Middletown so we decided to do a couple caches beforehand.  I think we snagged 3 of them.  Mommy and I sat in the car for the 2 of them because it was getting dark and it was sooo cold out!  I had fun watching the ducks at one of them.  Don't they know that the water is freezing?!

Anyway, off we went for the event cache.  It was called DelaWhere?.  CCCooper held it to launch a new Delaware geocoin.  It was a short event but we met some new cachers and I had fun playing with some of the kids that were there.

If the weather would ever cooperate, we could have a nice day just of caching.  It needs to warm up or stop raining!
Letter B Day
January 17, 2006
We are learning about bears this week....so naturally, today was "B" day.  I took in a "box" and it just so happened to have Bob the Builder on it!  2 points for me!  My friends brought in cool things like; bubblegum, a boat, bottles, a blanket, bubbles and a bat.  I even wore my "brown" outfit today with my "boots"!

We cut out the letter "B" and decorated it like a bear.  We are now doing writing pages and learning to write our letters and other "B" words.  I remember how to make a "B"....it's a straight line with two bumps!
Flu Bug!
January 20, 2006
Well, that nasty little flu bug that has been getting everyone sick, finally caught up with me.  Bummer!  We all thought I had missed getting it.  However, Mommy was not surprised since 2 of my friends went home from school with it.  It hit me in the middle of the night...and I threw up all over my bed.  I was soo upset.  Daddy got me all cleaned up and Mommy got my bedding cleaned and washed.  I got to sleep with Mommy in the "big bed" and only got sick one more time.  Mommy got me to the bucket in time for that one.  I was up a few more times crying, "my belly hurts so bad, give me some medicine".  Mommy tired explaining to me that throwing up is a good thing but I wasn't hearing that!
Mommy & me slept in until 10 o'clock the next morning!  I felt much better and was in a pretty good mood.  I still wasn't up for eating anything, so we hung out on the couch all day and watched movies!
We've had about enough of this "flu" thing around here.  Now, we have all had it, and Mommy twice! Enough is enough already!
PITTSBURGH'S GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!
January 22, 2006
Well...that question I've been asking for a few years now has FINALLY been answered!   "Will Pittsburgh ever get to another SuperBowl?"  YES!!!  We have party plans in the making already for the big event to be watched here!  Anyway.....
The Hartley's joined us for the momentous occasion.  We (except Daddy...cough) were all decked out in our Steelers gear to cheer on the team!

The Pittsburgh Steelers vs. The Denver Broncos, who will it be?
They didn't simply beat the Broncos. They owned them. They ignored the sea of orange that filled Invesco Field at Mile High. They ignored the Broncos' 9-0 record there, including their win over the team that won three of the last four Super Bowls. They ignored being 5,280 feet above sea level.  Ben Roethlisberger and his team knew they had to get the "Bus" (Jerome Bettis) back home.....SuperBowl XL(40) in Detroit....and that they did!  Bettis even held strong and scored a touchdown for his team, all with a nasty cold and problems with asthma at such a high altitude! The Steelers -- and especially Roethlisberger -- have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are talented enough and hot enough to win it all!

Let's hope this is true!  So...get out your
BLACK and GOLD!!  We will see you February 5th!

GO STEELERS!!
Letter X Day
January 24, 2006
We had the tricky letter, but one of my favorites to write, letter X day today.  It really was no question as to what I was taking.  Mommy let me take my x-rays of my kidney!  All of my friends thought they were cool.  You could see my back, rib and pelvis bones!
Other friends brought  xylophones and letter x's.  Not many words start with this letter.  We practiced writing capital and lowercase X's and writing words that not only started with X but had the letter X in them.
We made our big X's for decorating the room and made the one side look like a xylophone...they look pretty cool!  Mommy is saving all of my letters that we have done and is making them into a book for me to keep!
Geocaching Adventure
January 28, 2006
We haven't gone on a big "caching" day in quite awhile and the weather was too perfect for this time of year (or so Daddy says....I want it to SNOW!).  Anyway, we went and did a few in the area that we have gotten behind on.  I got to "run" the GPS for the first one.  Daddy asked me which way the arrow was pointing.  I told him that it was pointing "up" and that we needed to take a plane to get there.  Everyone laughed...including me, because I "knew" I was making a joke!  HA!  We managed to find the "treasure" rather quickly and I got a cool parachute man out of it.  Then, I tried my trick of complaining about everything from being too tired to too hungry, my feet hurt, carry me, I don't want to do this.....Daddy said we were going to go home and that I was going to bed!  ugh!  We didn't though, Mommy thought it may be smarter to just keep going.  (Darn it Mommy, I keep forgetting you work with kids and have some expertise with these little situations!).  So, we went and did a bunch more and I, of course, was a happy, fun kid to be around.  Whew!  I do much better on a very flat trail kind of terrain and that is where the rest of the ones we did were.  I got to see some llamas up close too!  They are interesting creatures.  I could have watched them all day.  The funny thing was watching all of them come to the fence when they saw us!  Daddy thinks people must feed them, even though they shouldn't.
All in all, we had a great day.  We found 8 caches.  I got 2 cool cars and a parachute guy.  We found a travel bug AND a geocoin!  Plus, we got to eat at McDonalds!  Yum!
Letter T Day
January 31, 2006
Today was "T" day!  I took my Terrible Toddler Towel!  Plus, I wore my Thomas sweatshirt.
We talked about all kinds of things that start with "T":  train, towel, tree, truck, two and teeth. (We are learning about Dental Health this week).  We cut out letter T's and made them look like trees.  They look really cool hanging on the wall.
