Harrisburg Senators Baseball Game
May 5, 2006 |
We never made it
to a game last summer, not sure why...but just didn't. We got
together with the Hartley's to try and beat the swarms of mayflies
that simply infest City Island in the early summer.
This nights game was played against the Erie SeaWolves. I was
more excited because Jen & Darrin were going to be there and that
there were going to be fireworks after the game.
We got there early and decided to try and find a geocache that was
just placed on the "island". Everyone searched but we came up
empty. Daddy called the owner, and it was indeed, missing.
Bummer. Oh well....we were hungry, so it was time to get some
food!
Nothing is better than ballpark food! Mommy & me split a
hamburger (on a bun with ketchup), a soda, and all 3 of us split
some fries. That's Mommy's weight watchers trick!
Anyway, the game started kind of slow and I cheered for a little
while. Sports just really aren't my thing...yet. I would
rather jump around to the music and visit with Jen & Darrin.
Mommy apologized to them about something and something about them
realizing that when you invite the Proper's, you really don't get to
see the game. Whatever. We had a nice time and did
get to see some good plays...and a homerun, but for the other team.
The Senators lost 8-3.
I got some yummy ice cream and a cool blue bat. That bat later
came in handy for smashing those mayflies as they started dropping
from the sky. They sure are strange little bugs. You
should have seen them around the lights...there must have been
thousands of them. Plus, Jen said it wasn't that bad...well,
as bad as it can get there! WOW! What can you do though,
we are sitting in the middle of the river! The bugs never ruin
the good times. Only moments after the game, the lights went
off...the announcer counted down from 10 and BOOM...BOOM...BOOM!
Fireworks! They were great, huge, loud and soo close!
Daddy thought they were some of the best ones we've seen! A
lot of them were really different. We didn't know if they have
invented some new ones or if it was because these fireworks weren't
as high in the sky as most shows you see. Either way...it was
AWESOME!
I think we are gong to plan on going to another game....it's a fun
and cheap night of entertainment! Better than sitting at home
on the couch!

Happy Mother's Day!
May 14, 2006 |
Today is
Mother's Day! I love my Mommy very much! I have been
sick for the whole weekend, so we didn't do anything except lay
around and watch movies. I don't get to do that very often, so
it was a fun time for me! I did get up and around to play
outside a little bit and in the garage with Daddy while he worked on
building our new entertainment center...it's looking pretty good, by
the way. Anyway, Daddy give me all the scrap pieces of wood
and I've been building all kinds of things. I thought we
should make Mommy a birdhouse...so we did! It was fun
helping to tell Daddy how it should look and helping measure and cut
with the saw. Safety goggles on, of course! It turned
out pretty awesome. I had Daddy make a chimney for on it too!
I gave it to Mommy right away and I could not have been more excited
for her to see it! She thought it was great and helped me to
get my paints out so I could decorate it. I used all the
colors and painted a neat design on it too. I also wrote my
name and Mommies (Mom) on it! It looks cool. Now...we
just aren't sure where we are going to put it! It may just sit
on the front porch as a decoration.
Happy Mother's Day to everyone! We hope you all had a special
and fun day.

St. Jude's
Research Hospital Trike-A-Thon
May 19, 2006 |
My school is
raising money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital by having
a trike-a-thon today. I got all kinds of sponsors from family
and friends and this year raised 170 dollars! That is great!
Mommy brought my bike to school but I don't like riding it, so I let
a friend use it. I like the scooters and the tricycles that
are at the school. I did a great job all by myself getting
around the track that Ms. Holly made. I even made it up the
hill with no help! I must have buzzed around that track about
20 times! There was the threat of rain again this year to
spoil it for us but it only rained in the morning and the rest of
the day was great! Funny?!
Thanks to everyone donating so much, I get some prizes too. I
will be earning a t-shirt, puppet and backpack! That's great!

Annual Union Canal Days
May 21, 2006 |
What to do this
breezy cool weekend? Mommy had read about Union Canals days
coming up and today was the day. We only found out about this
little festival after doing a geocache at the Union Canal Park and
doing a little research about the park on the internet. Funny,
the historic things you find practically in your backyard.
Anyway, we've always wanted to take a boat ride in the canal and go
through the tunnel and today we did! I couldn't wait to ride
the boat...it was the first thing I wanted to do! Actually, I
wanted to go in the canoe, but Mommy said she didn't trust
Daddy...joking, of course! We rode along the canal in a
motorized boat, they did have a boat hooked up to a horse later,
that is the way they ran them back in the day...heehee. It
sure was a big horse they used! Anyway, going thru the tunnel
was neat...it was really dark, cold and we even got dripped on with
water! You could still see all the tool marking on the stone
from where the workers had dug it out by hand using a star drill and
blasting with gunpowder! The tunnel was completed in 1827 and
is the oldest existing transportation tunnel in the U.S. If
you ever want to take a boat ride through the canal, they run them
every 2nd & 4th Sunday, June-October!
We did other fun things...this festival was just my size and not
crowded at all. Kind of sad, because it probably could really
be something, they definitely have the space for it. My
favorite thing was riding the "train", they had a tractor like
Pa-Pa's little one, pulling all this little cars. Mommy
thought the ones made out of barrels were neat. I chose the
monster truck ones. I rode it a few times. Then we
watched a guy shear a sheep...that was weird. I ate some yummy
fries, fed some sheep and watched a ventriloquist show! It was
funny! I laughed and laughed. When I get like that...my
laugh is somewhat contagious and people start laughing at me
laughing and soon people are crying....Mommy said it reminded her of
me at the Blue Man Group show. Anyway, this lady and her
9-year old daughter did a great job! I don't understand how
people talk and not move their mouths!
Daddy had a pretty good headache, so we headed home...plus, it was
getting pretty windy out. It was a fun day and we learned
something interesting about the area in which we live.

Kindergarten
Parents Orientation
May 23, 2006 |
Mommy & Daddy
had to go to a parents meeting for kids going to kindergarten
tonight. Amanda came over and stayed with me, we had a fun
time playing. Anyway, they said the meeting was nice.
All of the possible teachers I could have gave a presentation, along
with slide show, about what things I will be learning during my
frist year at school. I guess I will be doing a lot of math,
writing and reading! Looks as though I may even be reading by
next summer! That would be great! I will also be writing
words by myself. I will like that since I am kind of doing
that already. I can spell some simple words all on my own
without any help.
We won't know what school I will be going to until the end of summer
and I have an open house to go to in August and then Mommy or Daddy
or maybe both of them, will get to take me on my first day of
school!
I'm getting a little more excited about the whole thing....but still
not sure about that whole riding the bus by myself. I keep
hearing Mommy saying something to Daddy about needing a pill or
something for that day. Silly Mommy!

Day Weekend
May 26-31, 2006 |
Friday ~ May
26th: Our fun weekend begins today! We got up early,
packed up the car, ate breakfast, and were out the door on this
rainy cool day....destination Grandma & Pa-Pa's house! First
stop we planned this year was to visit
Penn's Caves. Daddy
had been there as a kid, but it was a first for Mommy and me.
Wow, what a neat place. The rain held off for a little bit
while we walked down to the opening of the cave. Penn's Caves
is a cave that has water running all through it, so you have to take
a boat! It was a neat sight walking to the opening...the steps
were really steep that you had to go down. I was a little
nervous at first, but the tour guides were really funny and I like
boats. It was us and another family on our boat, so it was
nice. Their little boy was more scared than me! It was
dark in the entrance, but we had a light on our boat...then we came
into the first big opening, it was "AWESOME" and all lit up so you
could see the stalagmites and stalactites, some even looked like
other things. We tried taking some pictures but it was hard,
so they aren't the greatest. However, they will be a nice
reminder of our day. I liked the one that looked like the
Statue of Liberty and the ones that looked like Niagara Falls.
It was cool and I got a spelunker hat with a flashlight on it as a
souvenir.
On our way to Pa-Pa's house....we stopped and did a few of Grandma's
caches on the way there...but it was hard because of the rain.
We got to their house before they got home from Grandma's doctor
appointment. We weren't waiting long for them though. We
had a nice visit and it was soon time for bed.
Saturday ~ May 27th: We got up today and had a good
time playing around the house. I helped Daddy to set up the
tent. I did a great job hammering in the tent pegs! We
drove around and did some more geocaches of Grandma's and another
one that was near by. We built a fire and got sticks for
cooking food. I found a good two-prong one. We cooked
yummy hot dogs and of course, marshmallow sandwiches! My
favorite! Once it got dark outside, Pa-Pa got out a package of
fireworks! I was soo excited. We had a fun time setting
off the smoke bombs and all the other cool sparkly things. I
really had a good time with the sparklers! They are just too
cool! Daddy would probably never admit to having as much fun
as I was with them. We stayed up late and then Mommy, Daddy
and me all slept out in the tent. It was a little cold but we
were all bundled up good and it was so nice and cozy and
comfortable. We took turns making up a story and then it was
time for bed. I didn't move the whole night!
Sunday ~ May 28th: We all were up and had some
breakfast. Mommy, Daddy and me went to Erie to a park called,
Waldameer. It is a
very small park, just the perfect size for me. It was a
perfect day and it was not crowded there at all! We didn't
have to wait in line for any of the rides. I picked to ride
the train first and we sat right up front behind the engine.
Boy, that was a warm seat! Then we did the Bumper
Cars....first I rode with Daddy and we chased Mommy all over the
place! Then Mommy and me got Daddy! Somehow, they
tricked me into riding The Comet rollercoaster! That was scary
and NOT any fun! This park was nice because I was tall enough
to ride everything but 3 of the rides! Now, of course, there
were some that I just plain refused to ride. I am not a big
fan of being more than a few feet off the ground. I had a nice
time though. We got home before in time to start another fire
and to set off some more fireworks! We had a fun night camping
out in the tent again.
Monday ~ May 29th: Happy Memorial Day! Today, we
just hung around the house, playing with toys and outside.
Whew, it sure was hot! We got chicken from the fire hall and
watched a Wallace and Gromit movie. Mommy and Grandma took a
nap!
Tuesday ~ May 30th: We got up early today! We
took Pa-Pa to his work for 6:30am! Yes, I said a.m.!
Daddy, Grandma, Mommy and me were off to do some geocaches in the
area. First, we went to this one called
"Pray for Daylight" and it was in a huge storm drain.
Daddy is still making fun of Mommy for falling in the water before
we even got started. I started going in with Daddy but then it
was too dark and it just freaked me out! Grandma stayed back
with me and we played around near the entrance. It took Mommy
and Daddy a 1/2 hour before they emerged from the tube. They
said it was fun but a longer hike in than they thought. We did
a couple other caches and then went to Presque Isle and walked
around there answering some questions to another cache.
Grandma and me did a lot of walking and talking and examining every
little thing I could find interesting. It was fun! Daddy
and Mommy had some more serious caching to do so they dropped
Grandma and me off at one of the beaches. We had a fun time
sitting there in the shade and playing in the sand, watching the
lake. Soon it was time to pick up Pa-Pa from work and go out
for dinner. They surprised me with a visit to Chuckee Cheeses!
Oh my, I was so excited to go there! We ate out yummy pizza
and then it was time to play games! I scored on Daddy at Air
Hockey, watched Mommy make a fool of herself trying to play the
dancing game and then......I found skeeball! I LOVE THIS GAME!
It's really hard to describe how I was at this...you really need to
see it in person. Daddy did take a video clip, so if you can
watch those on your computer, be sure to check it out. I did
pretty awesome, even scoring in the 100,000 hole at the top corner.
Not sure if it was luck or just plain skill. All I know is
everyone needs to stay clear and watch my form....I throw a wicked
curve. Daddy says I get that from Mommy! I spent all my
tokens and I had gotten almost 300 tickets! What a fun day we
had....we were all exhausted when we got home.
Wednesday ~ May 31st: I slept in late today. I
was so tired from our busy visit. We didn't get to do much
today since we were busy packing up our stuff. Speaking of
which, while we were packing up the tent...a mole chewed a hole in
the floor of our tent! Grrr! Of all the places in
Grandma's gigantic yard, we put our tent over a mole hill!
Anyway, I did make another stepping stone for Grandma's
garden. She has a bunch of those done by me now. They
look nice in her flower beds. We had a nice little visit and
it's always so relaxing to go to Pa-Pa's house, but I am very glad
to be home.
