September 2006 Journal

Fall will be here soon.  As you all know, Mommy's favorite time of the year.

Not much planned this month other than a trip to see Grandparents Proper and the beginning of my soccer games!

Happy Labor Day!
September 1st - 4th, 2006
We spent the Labor Day holiday at Grandma and Pa-Pa Proper's house.  We just had a nice relaxing time because Hurricane Ernesto that traveled up from Florida rained our Saturday and most of Sunday out.  It didn't stop me from getting the tractor out and riding in the rain!  Pa-Pa may not admit it, but he had fun riding his tractor around trying to catch me...but I was too fast.  It didn't stop us from having a fire either so we could make "marshmallow sandwiches!", we just had the fire in the fireplace and opened up the doors and windows so we didn't get too hot...it was nice :).  I played ball with Pa-Pa a lot too...we played soccer and baseball.  I am getting pretty good at hitting the ball, when I'm focused.
The weather cleared up and was beautiful for Monday...which was important because we went to the Stateline Speedway Annual Demolition Derby!  What fun was that...I didn't know what I thought of it at first...but what an adrenaline rush!  Some of those cars got hit so hard that the back ends completely came off, tires fell off and smoke was pouring out of some...but they KEPT GOING!!!  We did see one guy get hit pretty badly, right in front of us, and he went flying up against his steering wheel!  Now, I know why we wear seatbelts...he had his on, but his seat broke.  The officials waved the red flag, stopped the "race" and the ambulance came over.  He was able to walk away from the wreckage and everyone cheered.  I liked the way the cars were all painted up and I definitely had my favorites.  One was painted green and gold, I called it the "money car", another was bright orange, another had a big arrow sign on the top that said, "I'm with Stupid!"...I thought that was so funny!

We really had a nice time!

Happy 9th Anniversary Mommy & Daddy
September 5th, 2006
Mommy & Daddy have been married for 9 years!  Can you believe it's been that long?  Plus, they have been together as a couple for 15 years!  WOW!  That's a long time.
Daddy got Mommy some flowers and we all shared some yummy chocolate cake.  Mommy got Daddy season 8 of The Simpson's.  That's a gift for me too! They would like to go some where nice for their 10th....we'll see.  That means I will get to stay with the grandparents!

First Soccer Game
September 9th, 2006
Well...I was supposed to play my first soccer game this morning...and we were all excited to go.  However, my body had other plans.  I ended up getting pretty sick.  My belly hurt and I was running a pretty good temperature of 103 degrees!  I laid around on the couch all day.  Mommy thinks I may have strep throat again too, since I was complaining that it hurt and my tongue looks like a strawberry!  Something is going around the daycare center and Mommy was worried that I would catch it!
Bummer!  Hope I don't miss our next game...as it will be picture day!

Pretty Sick :(
September 9th - 14th, 2006
Boy, did I ever get ill.  It started with a little belly ache on Saturday morning, which caused me to miss my very first soccer game, bummer.   Then the fevers hit.  Mommy said I ran a temperature of 103 (highest being 104 at one time) for four days!  I also had a pretty bad sore throat.  All I wanted to do was lay around on the couch and watch TV.  Mommy said this is the worst she has ever seen me.  I did manage to drink a lot of fluids, but eating was of no interest.  Daddy stayed home with me on Monday and took me to the doctors and that was NOT fun.  I did not have strep throat, but had to go have blood work done for Mono and a urine test to be sure there was no infection there.  All of those tests came back negative and I ended up having a pretty bad viral infection.  I was prescribed this horrible antibiotic to take though, and that was awful.  There are some pretty embarrassing stories I could tell about my behavior on that subject, but I don't think we need to go there!
Mommy stayed home with me on Tuesday and Wednesday and I am feeling much better now.  I have a little cough, but we think it's allergies...well, we hope that is all it is.

My First Soccer Game!
September 16th, 2006
I played my first "official" soccer game today with my team!  I had FUN and actually admitted it when asked this time!  We didn't score any goals but we sure got the ball up to their goal post lots of times.  I played offense, actually I think the whole team did...heehee!  I got to kick the ball a few times too!  Daddy and Mommy cheered me on from the sidelines, "Run Cole, Go get the ball!".  There was so much going on around me that sometimes I would need to just stop and "take it all in".  :)  Mommy and Daddy have GOT to buy that recorder they want and tape one of our games.

We had our individual and team photos taken before the game.  I can't wait to see those!  I put on my best "cheesy" smile...I'm never serious.

I'm excited for next weeks game.  Grandma & Pa-Pa will be here to watch  me play!

Geocaching with Friends
September 17th, 2006
We haven't been geocaching as a family in months.  Daddy had gone a few times with some of his buddies, but Mommy and me took a break!  It's just too hot in the summer for me (Mommy too) to be tramping about in the woods, etc.  This time we invited Jen and Darrin to join us.  There was a nice park in Lower Allen Twp.  that had a bunch of nice caches placed in it.  First, we got together and had a nice picnic...the weather was perfect, actually a bit warmer than we were prepared for, but we were fine.  We hunted for 10 caches and found all but one.  I even spotted a few of them.  It was the perfect terrain for me around the park, all level and mowed!  Only a few times did we get stuck with some prickers...but NOTHING like our last encounter (read journal entry in July ~ Trip to Philly...ugh!).  Anyway, we saw some really cool things while on our "journey"....mushrooms growing everywhere, all different kinds of them!  One as big as Daddy's head!  No joke, we thought it was a ball at first, until Jen told us it was a mushroom!  Daddy took a picture of it and then I promptly smashed it with a stick!  Then around a cluster of pine trees, growing on the ground a mini-city of mushrooms...tall little ones!  Daddy took a neat picture of those, then I promptly smashed them with a stick too!  I like smashing things with a stick!  We found this weird large growth high up on a tree, like a branch had tried to grow out from it but went in and around instead.  It was too high up, or I would have tried to smash it with my stick!  We walked along the Yellow Breeches and spotted some fish in the water and a bird sunning himself on the edge.  Daddy said it's called a Blue Heron.  I would never try to smash a living animal with a stick!  You people are sick!  Then we walked by a family cooking out a WHOLE PIG over a fire...everyone was drooling over that...I just thought it was gross!
We had such a fun time.  We ended our perfect day at Bruster's ice cream place where I got a yummy Dino Sundae with green sprinkles!  We hope we can get the Hartley's hooked on this geocaching hobby as it is fun to spend days like this with friends!  Mommy and Daddy mentioned something about me not complaining so much either...what?  Me?  Complain?

Soccer Game #2
September 23rd, 2006
We were worried that my game would get rained out today but it didn't!  Grandma and Pa-Pa were here for a visit and they wanted to watch me play.  We did a pretty good job as a team, remembering to pass to each other and playing our positions.  Some of the guys on my team are really good players and we even scored 2 goals this time!  That made us feel much better, since we hadn't scored any before today. I did much better this week, but still have my moments of not paying attention and of wanting to be somewhere else.  But when it comes down to it, I really am having a fun time.  We don't keep score but Mommy said we won, 2-0.  :)

My Halloween Costume
September 24th, 2006
Halloween, you say?  Well, it will be here before you know it and it was time to get my costume!  I'm not telling you what I am going to be, it will have to be a surprise.  However, I will tell you what I told Mommy when we were shopping for it online.  I do not want to be anything scary or funny!  I want to be AWESOME!  So, I picked out an awesome costume!
I can't wait for it to get here!

Soccer Game #3
September 25th, 2006
Tonight's game was GREAT!  Everyone had such a fun time!  There was a lot of cheering and laughing (not sure why people were laughing, but they were) going on.  Mommy and Daddy talked to me, before the game, about remembering to follow the "ball" not the people (oh, and to just have FUN too!).  I remembered this and the exact scenario that Mommy explained to me...happened!  I was running with the "blob" (Daddy calls it that) and I was at the back and then all of the sudden the ball was right near me so, instead of following the team, I ran straight over to the ball and got it!  I was against my home team sideline and dribbled and ran as fast as I could!  Everyone was cheering my name!  It was great!  I got near the goal zone before I was surrounded by blue shirts (the other team, which just so happened to be our neighbors) and I couldn't kick it in the goal, so I kicked as hard as I could to another one of my teammates (not sure if this was intentional or accident, but who cares!) and he got control of it and kicked it in for our 4th goal of the game. (We don't keep score, but the parents do and this was the goal that "won" us the game!).  Everyone cheered and cheered for me.  Coach Matt pulled me over and told me how good I did!  I'm like a star player...EVERYONE knows who I am!  And it has nothing to do with the fact that on occasion I'm spinning around with my arms out like a helicopter in the middle of the field...OR that I do this funny trot running thing :)

Soccer Game #4
September 30th, 2006
It was just Daddy and me at today's game.  Mommy had made plans to go to the Apple Festival with Jen.  It was rainy and cool outside, but not too bad to call off the game.  We've been lucky so far, that the weather has cooperated so much.  Anyway, I played like I normally do...not always paying the best attention.  Daddy keeps reminding me that I am not there to make friends with the kids on the other team.  Oh yea, I keep forgetting that!  I played the first half pretty well, but then during the second I complained that my leg was hurting and that I didn't want to play anymore, so the coach let me come in.  Daddy wasn't too happy about that.  We had a nice chat about quitting.
