December 2006 Journal

It's CHRISTMAS TIME!  I can't wait for Santa bring me everything I want!  Well anything would be great!

Lots going on this month as you will see!  Hope we can keep up with the website this month!  We are busy people!

Happy Birthday to Mommy!
December 1, 2006
Mommy is 36 years old today!  I couldn't wait to give her the present I picked out!  I almost dropped it right into Grandma's tree trying to bring it down the step from the dining room!  Mommy tried to get me to wait for Daddy to get out of bed, but I had it half torn into at that point!  Daddy asked me what I wanted to get and I said "one of those big blow-up Santa's for the yard!"....so, we did!  It's cool, it has a reindeer pulling Santa out of the chimney!  She thought her gift was great!
We spent the day at the mall doing some shopping with no complaining from Daddy.  I guess that was his gift to her...heehee.  We had a fun time and I was super good!  We topped of the day with a yummy meal that Grandma made and some cake!

A Visit with Santa Claus!
December 1, 2006
While we were at the mall....Santa just happened to be there the same day!  I was a bit apprehensive about going up to him and I was pretty quiet too.  However, when he asked me what I wanted I was sure to tell him.  I want a drum set, Lego City and a train/car washer thing.  When I told Santa about the drum set he chuckled a ho-ho-ho and gave Mommy a look.  She just nodded her head and smiled.  Not sure what that was all about...does Santa really need permission to bring me what I want?  Anyway, I smiled nice for a photo and I got a yummy lollipop!

Happy Birthday to Daddy!
December 3, 2006
Daddy turned 34 today!  We really didn't get to do much for him.  We had to head back home from our visit with Grandma and Papa's.  Mommy and me didn't even get to go shopping for him yet either....man, that just sounds awful!  We promised him that we would catch him on a surprise day and celebrate his birthday!  I do like to cook him a special breakfast, so I will probably be doing that soon.   I think he will be unwrapping his birthday presents on Christmas!
Happy birthday Daddy, I LOVE YOU!

Decking the Halls
December 4th-6th, 2006
We have been busy as beavers decorating the house both inside and out for Christmas.  Daddy makes fun of Mommy every year with how long it takes and it gets longer and longer each year!  I still think we need more lights outside!  Anyway, we got it all done and it looks nice.  I especially like my very own tree in my room and the new singing Santa's we got!

Christmas Show
December 7, 2006
Tonight we went to a Christmas show at the American Music Theater in Lancaster.  This was the first time I have ever been to it.  Since I had done so well when we say the Blue Man Group, Mommy figured that I could handle this.
It was nice...we had front row seats so it didn't matter that I jiggled a little bit in my seat but for the most part I did a great job.  I really liked it.  Mommy said it was a perfect blend of serious, religious and comedy.  The comedy parts were my favorite.  I like the two silly reindeers that were trying to learn how to fly for Santa.  They also sang the song from The Polar Express and a huge train came out on stage!  There was a song that this silly little girl (a big lady dressed up) sang and she was funny because she sang my Batman song that goes to Jingle Bells that I like and she BURPED!  During the more serious songs I loved watching this one guy play the bongo drum and another kind of drum called a snare.  He was great!
I think we may start this as a family tradition to see in December.  It would be lots of fun if we could go with the Grandparents.....maybe next year!

Holiday Party with Friends
December 9, 2006
This year we are hosting the holiday party...and we have been getting ready for it ALL week!  Mommy and Daddy even did a major overhaul on my playroom!  I haven't noticed anything major missing yet, but I am sure I will!  Anyway, I couldn't wait for my buddy Sam to come...and everyone else.  I can't believe that they drove all the way from West Virginia just to spend a night with us!  Everyone was here...we had a full house of kids!  Me, Sam, Sarah, Maysen, and Meghan and we played until we dropped!  It was time to take pictures, you know my mother, she must document EVERYTHING and all the other moms wanted pictures too!  So, first up, a photo of all us kids!  We did NOT make this simple...first to get us all to sit where they wanted us to was a challenge, I HAD to be by Sam, Maysen did not want to have her picture taken (enter candy cane magic), Meghan had exploring on her mind and getting a hold of Daddy's camera, but we finally managed to "assume the position"...but WAIT...now what camera do we look at?!  Snap, flash, snap...DONE! Then all the families groups together for individual pictures and those all came out pretty nice.  Now for the large group photo...boy, we are much "bigger" than we were 2 years ago!  We got it done though and in two snaps, minus the one of Daddy's behind because he misjudged the timer...we had 2 decent photos.  Maysen wasn't happy, but what 2-year old likes to have a posed picture taken, especially when there were presents to be opening in a matter of seconds?!  That's it!  Bring on the gifts!  Wow, it was just like Christmas morning and we tore into them just the same.  I got all kinds of neat things.  Sam & Sarah got me a X-Men puzzle, Lincoln Logs, and a race car model kit.  Maysen & Meghan got me 3 Superhero guys (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman) and The Hartley's got me a shirt and a Lava Lamp, which I think is the coolest thing!  The grown-ups did a gift exchange too and played games.  I think the men beat the women again!  I heard there was some distraction with Darrin's inability to properly digest broccoli...leave it up to the pregnant woman's nose!  Anyway, I am glad everyone had a nice time.  I'm just sorry it had to end so soon.  I don't know who is planning the next adventure but it can't be soon enough for me!

I love all of you...you are all so nice to me!  Oh, and a big thanks for all the gifts!  We hope you all have a great holiday with your families!

Uncle Harold ~ December 20th, 1924 - December 10th, 2006
December 10, 2006
Some sad news, Mommy's Uncle Harold (my great uncle) has passed away due to complications following a massive stroke that he had over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Mommy will always have fond memories of "Uncle Harold" and hope that he is in a much better place and that they have the Sports Channel so he may never miss a Pirates baseball game and local Kittanning wrestling match.

Memories~
*I will always remember Uncle Harold eating dessert, no matter how large the meal was before hand.  I will always remember our car trips (thru Tarentum) to Pirates baseball games, honking the horn under overpasses.  I will never forget playing ping-pong in the basement!  I will always remember visiting the barber shop and watching him with his customers who genuinely loved him.  I enjoyed attending church with him and Aunt Kitty.  I can picture in my mind the way he would nod his head and smile right before he would tell you something "witty" or that he believed to be "witty".  I will forever remember how he could barely get up from a chair and how he got down on all fours to the floor to play cars with my son.  And I will never EVER forget how this wonderful man treated and loved my Aunt with all his heart. *

Rest in Peace Uncle Harold...you will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.

Santa Claus is Coming to...Palmyra!
December 15, 2006
The annual drive thru of Santa riding a fire truck was tonight!  We were all sitting in the living room eating our pizza and watching Home Alone 2 when Mommy heard the faint fire siren and we all bolted out the front door!  This year he was sitting in his sleigh on top of the decorated truck...waving and yelling "Merry Christmas!"  He pointed right at me...so, now I KNOW he's been watching.  I sure do hope Santa has a "3-strikes" policy....cause' then I'm still good to go for Christmas!  :)

Celebrating Daddy's Birthday...better late than never!
December 17, 2006
Mommy and me surprised Daddy with his official birthday celebration today!  Mommy made yummy French toast for breakfast!  I fixed up Daddy card and we got him 2 movies, Talladega Nights and World Trade Center.  Neither of those I am allowed to watch...bummer.
It was up to Daddy what we did today.  He picked geocaching...shocker, huh?  That's okay, we decided to do a neat one called: Swatara Falls.  It was a nice hike back in the woods.  It was still pretty and green...the Mountain Laurels were everywhere and almost made it feel like we were walking through a jungle.  Boy, it sure would be pretty there in the Spring/Summer.  We just may have to return, maybe the Hartley's will want to see it.  Anyway, we could hear the waterfalls from quite a distance away.  They sure were pretty...I was busy building a fire with rocks. leaves and sticks.  Mommy and Daddy took some pictures and then we crossed the stream, this one was much easier than the one we did with Pa Pa.  Daddy and me got pretty close to the "falls".  I didn't care much for that.  We walked further up the the other side and found another set of smaller falls above.  There was a nice rock wall to climb up and out on, so we sat there a bit while I threw some rocks in the water.  We had a fun day and the area was very nice, we ran into one other family enjoying their day there as well.  There were some obvious "party" spots in the area, but not much trash or graffiti, so that was nice.  However, on the way into the trails, over the hillside, there was garbage everywhere!  People must drive out the big stuff they can't get rid of and just dump in there!  Geez!  I wanted to bring some of the tires home though...I figured we could use them for something!  I could build my own race car!
What a fun day...and Happy Birthday (belated) Daddy!

Secret Stockings!
December 18, 2006
Last night our doorbell rang and when I answered it there was a Christmas stocking sitting on my porch full of goodies!  We opened it up and there was a letter attached explaining what it was.  It's a way to spread holiday cheers throughout the neighborhood.  We were to fill 2 more stockings and put them on someone else's doorstep, but the trick is to not be seen.  Mommy and me ran to the store and got some good little treats to put in the stockings and Daddy and me set out to leave the surprises.  That was fun, I put it on the porch, rang the bell and ran like heck!  Laughing all the way!  We also got a special star to hang on our door, so people know that we have already been "got".  It's been fun driving around and seeing all the "stars" pop up in the neighborhood!

Grandparents Arrive!
December 22, 2006
Mommy & Daddy both had today off of work, so we spent most of the day finishing up everything we needed to do for Christmas.  Plus, all of my grandparents were coming in today!  YAY!  Mommy finished up her shopping in the early morning and then Daddy and me got up...had breakfast together and did "our" shopping.  It was a nice time with Daddy (somehow I think Mommy getting the morning by herself was a bit of a gift too).  I was excited when we got back to the house that I almost blurted out everything we bought!
Anyway, the grandparents all arrived safely and couldn't wait to play with me!  The weather was really rainy and didn't make for the best traveling conditions but I guess that was better than a snowstorm!
We all had a nice dinner and watched a movie before I had to go to bed.  Great day to look forward to tomorrow...Uncle JG will be coming!
We will remember this holiday season as the one when we had to run the air conditioner!

Christmas Eve
December 24, 2006
Today started out great!  Everyone that I love was in my house!  I wanted to go bowling so we thought this would be a fun group activity!  Pap didn't think his "old bones" could take it, so he stayed home and cooked up some artichokes for Christmas Eve dinner....well....eating frenzy that pretty much lasted all day long :).
Anyway, Grammy, Grandma, and Pa-Pa (who all haven't been bowling in YEARS), Uncle JG, Mommy, Daddy and me had a great time bowling.  Everyone was impressed with my bowling skills.  Boy, does my Uncle have a wicked curve ball...I want to learn to do that!  I am getting better at not using the bumpers.  I guess I am going to have to learn not to use them someday...but for now, we will just keep things as they are.  Daddy got a print out of our scores, so he will have to put them on here.  It was  race to see who would win and I think it was Daddy!  We are thinking that we may make this a new tradition for Christmas Eve!  It sure was a fun time.  Daddy said we will go bowling more often in 2007.

We spent most of the day visiting and playing with my toys.  I did help Uncle JG cut up veggies for dinner.  Grandma spent the day baking up some of her yummy pies too!  We had a lot of yummy food.  Mommy made meatballs in a sweet and sour sauce, shrimp cocktail, crab dip, said veggie tray, deer bologna with cheese and artichokes!  Plus, there were a few cookies that needed to be eaten.

Then it was time to load up and go to Hershey's Sweet Lights.  This has become a holiday tradition too.  Grandma didn't get to see them yet, as last year she was still having a lot of trouble with her vertigo.  We must have went on the perfect night, it wasn't busy at all, so we were able to drive thru at our own pace, stopping to take pictures.  Since it wasn't crowded and bumper to bumper, we didn't have all that jerking with the car, which helped Mommy a lot too!  We weren't that far in when I yelled..."Hey, it's Santa dot com!".  I don't know if you remember last year about the Santa display on the computer but it's the same one I talked about and talked about that no one knew what I meant until we got there.  Funny, how I remember things!  Again, I remember the reindeer too.  We had a fun time going through the "12 Days of Christmas" display this year, we sang the phrase as we passed it and then added in the big "ba-duh-bum-bum" after the FIVE GOLDEN RINGS!  It was funny!  We drove through a few really lit up neighborhoods on our way back home too.  It was time to get back and start getting ready for the arrival of SANTA!

First, we looked up where Santa was in the World (noradsanta.org). I think when we first checked in he was in Russia!  I ran and got my globe so I could see where that was and just how far away he was.  We kept checking him all night long too.  I liked when he was in the middle of the ocean and he had to land his sleigh on an aircraft carrier!
Uncle JG and Daddy helped me to make my gigantic cookie and I fixed the reindeer a dish of veggies (carrots, broccoli and cauliflower).  I put Santa's key on the front door and it was time for bed!  Daddy read "The Night Before Christmas" to me and it wasn't long before I was fast asleep!

Merry Christmas!
December 25, 2006

This is my 6th Christmas and they just keep getting better and more fun!  I am getting like Mommy and absolutely loving this time of year!  The only thing that would have made it perfect for me would be just to have gotten a little bit of snow!  (I know, I know Pa-Pa & Daddy, but you can't tell me that when you were a kid that you didn't feel the same way!)  Anyway, NO ONE had to get me up this year...however, I was the last one to rise in the morning.  I snuck up on everyone as they were in the kitchen drinking their coffee and whispering.
The FIRST thing I saw was my drum set....oh boy!  Nice!  It had fire on it just like I asked for!  I only told Mommy about that...how did Santa know?  We moved that out of the way and then I saw my nutcracker!  Ever since I was "little" I have loved these things...I always make Mommy stop at them when I see them in stores.  I was excited when I got a set of little ones to hang on my tree too!  The only conclusion I can come up with is...yes, Santa IS watching!  He is really nice too...he is about half my size and has a beard and is holding a sword.  He is just like the one I was looking at in the store!  It didn't take me long to tear into the gifts.  I knew if I saw the letters C-O-L-E, it was for me!  I opened up a small box from Santa and it was a Lego's truck.  Before I even had all of the paper off, I yelled, "Lego City! I know it's here someplace!"  I jumped up and looked around the tree for a really big box and I found one, but Mommy said that one was from Uncle Mark.  I didn't care, it was big, from Uncle Mark, so I wanted to open it next!  WOW...my very own pinball machine...a big one too!  Thanks!  I can't wait to play that!  Next, I did find my Lego City box and Santa brought me the airport set!  That will be fun to put together.  (*Update, it took Grandma, Daddy and a little help from me about 2 1/2 hours to build!).  I also got almost all of the die cast cars characters from my all time favorite movie, Pixar's CARS!  Next, I opened up a gigantic bag gift from Grammy & Pap.  It was Army bedding for my room and a tank pillow!  Uncle JG's packages were next....oh, boy...GI JOE'S and lots of them!  He got me some good guys AND bad guys, the motorcycle and the ATV.  Thanks!  Package from Nickoli...more Army guys!  Yeah!  I can't wait to set them all up to fight!  Grandparents Proper got me a cool experiment set for the bath tub,  I had picked this out and was glad to see they remembered.  You can mix colors in the test tubes while you are getting a bath!  Mommy is glad for this as well, so now I wont waste all of her bath soap!  They also got me a game about the USA and a soccer ball practice set!  Given the beautiful weather we are having, I won't have to wait until Spring to try that out!  Whoa, another big package under the tree...from Aunt Susan and Uncle Allen.....Mega Blocks Pirates of the Caribbean building set!  Awesome!  (*Update, this set took Daddy & me about an hour and a half to build).  I will be playing with this a lot while watching Part 2 of the movie that we got from Santa!  Oh my, how could I forget....Santa also got me Rock'em Sock'em Robots!  I can't wait to "knock your block off!".  Mommy & Daddy got me some stuff too....I got some new games (Guess Who and Battleship), large floor puzzles, marble maze and the Ninja Turtles movie.  Oh, but the BEST GIFT that Mommy got for ME AND DADDY was.....everyone was done opening all of their gifts (yea, other people got stuff too, not just me!).  Grandma noticed another package way under and towards the back of the tree.  Mommy said she couldn't reach it and it said it was for me....so I had to carefully crawl under and get it.  Daddy was sitting on the couch watching me open it up....he seemed confused, not sure why.  Anyway, I wasn't sure what it was...I saw "Cars" on it and there was some weird looking thing that reminded me of a remote wrapped up too....as I was saying "Cars", Daddy yells out...."hey, that's XBOX stuff!".  Mommy just nodded and said, "it's behind the couch!"  No sooner was Daddy over the backside of the sofa!  And they say only kids get excited at Christmas!  heehee!   I really had no idea what the big deal was....I'm sure I will figure it out later.
Well...once the packaging opening frenzy was over, which did take about an hour almost two, this year.  We cleaned up the mess, organized the "pile" of my stuff.  Mommy started fixing dinner and the we started to put things together that I got and take them out of the packaging.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone for all of my gifts!  I absolutely got everything I ever wanted and am so happy that we were all able to be together for the holidays!  I hope everyone had a nice time too!

THANK YOU ~ THANK YOU~ THANK YOU!

The Day After!
December 26, 2006

Well...Uncle JG had to leave last night...I hated to see him go, but he had to work today!  I was happy that he was able to come for the extra night though.  I love playing with him!
It has been pretty rainy out the last few days so Grandma and Pa decided to get on the road and head back home today.  We wish they could have stayed longer but they wanted to go home.
We didn't do much today, except play with all my new toys.  Mommy and Grammy did some shopping at the Hershey outlets.  We all headed to Wal-mart, surprisingly, it was not overly crowded at all, I had some Christmas money that was burning a hole in my pocket.  Also, Daddy was itching to by himself a "grown-up" game for the XBox!  That area of the store was really, really busy...heehee!
It was a nice relaxing day and Daddy and me played the CARS game over and over again.  I really like video games and have quickly become addicted.

A Day out with Daddy
December 28, 2006

Mommy had to go back to work today, but Daddy has the entire week off!  I got to stay home so we could have a day all to ourselves!  Daddy thought we have been spending too much time hanging out at home, so we headed downtown to the Whitaker Science Center in Harrisburg.  I have been here before, but it's been awhile and they were having a K'NEX exhibit and Daddy thought I would enjoy that!
After playing there, we had to stop at Best Buy to return a DVD and Daddy got us a new game for the XBox....Lego's Star Wars!  Well, let me just tell you....that it is the best game EVER!  It's so funny and so much fun.  Daddy and me have to work together to solve puzzles, put together things with...yes, LEGO'S...and help defend the universe from the evil Darth Vader! What fun, fun, fun!

New Year's Eve Day
December 31, 2006

We went bowling this morning.  We are going to try and go as much as we can.  It's a lot of fun and a nice Sunday morning activity.  I picked up a really messy split.  The lady working the counter saw it and cheered for me too!  My ball just rolled right down the lane and then across the pins, knocking them all over!  It was great and like nothing Mommy and Daddy have ever seen before...heehee!
After bowling we went grocery shopping and picked up some of the ingredients we needed to make Grandma Proper's New Year's sandwiches and to get some things for the party at the Hartley's in the evening.  I helped the soda delivery guy too, he was trying to take this huge pallet of soda boxes down the lane, they wobbled and about 5 boxes crashed to floor, two of them ripped open and sent soda cans rolling everywhere!  Mommy and me helped him to gather them up and put them back in the boxes!  Whew!  He was very grateful for my help even though he probably could have gotten it done faster himself...heehee!
We had a nice quiet afternoon and got ready to go to our friends house.  We didn't do too much, hung out, ate food, talked a lot!  Our friends, the Fisher's came too.  We all watched the big ball drop down at midnight.  This was the first time for me and I thought it was pretty cool!  I had fun with all the kissin' though, I gave Mommy a kiss and she gave Daddy a kiss and I gave Daddy a kiss and he gave Mommy a kiss and they both gave me a kiss!  It was great!  It wasn't much longer after that we all started to clean up and head home.  I think I fell asleep as soon as we pulled out of the driveway!

                          HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
