June 2007 Journal

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

DADS are special people
No home should be without,
For every family will agree
They're 'SO NICE TO HAVE ABOUT' -
They are a happy mixture
Of a 'SMALL BOY' and a 'MAN'
And they're very necessary
In every 'FAMILY PLAN' -
Sometimes they're most demanding
And stern, and firm and tough
But underneath they're 'soft as silk'
For this is just a 'BLUFF' -
But in any kind of trouble
Dad reaches out his hand.
And you can always count on him
To help and understand -
And while we do not praise Dad
as often as we should,
We love him and admire him,
And while that's understood,
It's only fair to emphasize
His importance and his worth -
For if there were no loving Dads
This would be a 'LOVELESS EARTH'.

A couple fun things planned this month, enjoying my first vacation away from home, a visit to some friends, Father's Day adventure and who knows what else.  I think Mommy & Daddy have some projects around here as well!

Home Decorating Continues....
June(ongoing)2007
More projects have started rather than one or two actually being completed!  How does that happen?  Anyway, bought a new tree for the front yard, it hasn't been delivered yet.  Daddy & Mommy actually started the powder room redecorating, things are painted and torn apart!  Got a new sink and Mommy thinks it's funny that an entirely new sink was cheaper than the faucet she picked out!  They are having all this fun while I'm at Grandma's!  I hope Mommy's vision all comes together like she is hoping it will.  I think some repairs need to be done on my play set in the back yard.  The wood is looking pretty beat up by the sun and some of my swings cracked!  Bummer.  They are expensive to replace, so not sure when we will get to that.  I would like a glider to replace the baby swing.  Daddy bought the sealer for the driveway and it has decided to rain every day since we bought it!  I hope they get that done before I get home too!  Plus, there is still the hallway that needs painted and Mommy bought some stuff for the front door (house numbers, kick plate and a new doorbell) but it needs to be cleaned and re-painted first.
Once the bathroom and hallways are done, I wonder what room will be next?  I hope it's my playroom!  Something needs to be done in there...at least get me a new light!
To be continued..........

Vacationing at Grandparents Proper
May 29th - June 8th, 2007
I got to stay with Grandma & Pa-Pa all by myself!  I have done this before but for only a few days at a time.  I was really very excited for Mommy & Daddy to head back home and for me getting to stay.  I could only imagine the fun I was going to have and all the attention one little boy could ever want or need!  Plus, "People Pancakes" every day if I wanted them!  Life just does NOT get better than this!  Pa-Pa had to work during the week but Grandma and me kept ourselves quite busy with working in the yard.  We planted trees, I drove the tractor, helped Pa-Pa dig a hole for Grandma's weather station, played with the neighbors dog (Leila), made a stepping stone for Grandma's garden and helped Pa-Pa clean the gas well!  Pa-Pa thinks I am a pretty good hole digger!  I'm definitely not one of those kids that is beating the door down to get outside, you kind of have to "make" me go, but once I am out there...I do just fine.  We enjoyed some other fun days inside and around town as well.  I had to go with Grandma & Pa as they had some "business" to do and the man's grandkids were there, so I got to play with them and watch a movie.  Grandma's friend and "neighbor", Polly, took us to yard sales one day and I bought some little things with my own money, but Polly bought me a weed whacker!  We made a few trips to Wal-Mart and Pa-Pa got me a couple Lego sets (I LOVE LEGO'S) and I have been busy building with those.  They are the underwater sets that I have been obsessing about since I saw them in the store and now I have my Lego magazine that I love looking at.  We had to go to Lowe's and everyone pretty much now knows how I feel about that place!  Grrr....I just DO NOT enjoy going there!  (Mommy and Daddy do not enjoy going there with me!).  We went to see the movie, Shreck 3 and Polly took Grandma and me out to eat.  It rained a couple days but Grandma had some good rainy day activities planned.  I have always been intrigued with Grandma's sewing machine so while at the store she had me pick out some fabric (fuzzy green color) and she taught me how to sew!  We made a Pound Puppy!  We also built a big tent in the living room and I like to go in there and draw pictures.  We made brownies, I love brownies and told Mommy that she should make them every day for me!  So, I have been busy...too busy to miss home.  I talk to Mommy & Daddy almost every night before bed.  I have been pretty well behaved for my first "all by myself" vacation, just a few minor moments...but I'm a kid and I can't be "good" all the time!  Although, I say I don't want to go home yet, it will be nice to be back and see Mommy & Daddy and my friends at school!  I am sure it won't be long after I am home though, that I am asking when can we go back to Grandma & Pa-Pa's house?!

A BIG THANKS TO GRANDMA & PA-PA FOR TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF ME!  I HAD A BLAST!!!

Good-Bye Little Fishy
June 6th, 2007
Well, my big black fancy goldfish died today :(.   He just hasn't been looking good for a few days so Mommy thought he wasn't going to make it.  He actually has surprised us that he lasted this long.  I'll be sad but I still have one of my original 3 (well, since we moved to this new house) left.   I will want a new one, so we will have to go to the pet store when I get back from Grandma's.  Gee, do they make  Lego fish?  I bet they would never die!

I'M BACK!
June 8th, 2007
My vacation at Grandparents Proper is over and although I had a GREAT time, it feels wonderful to be home :).   Mommy said that she thought I looked a lot bigger but I told her that "I'm still 5".  Daddy said it was awful quiet around home while I was gone and then I heard him rambling on to Pa-Pa about Mommy telling him to do things, which he thought while I was gone that it was a lot more but turns out he could only hear half of them....whatever, I kind of got confused by that comment but PaPa thought it was pretty funny, while Mommy just rolled her eyes.  HA!
Anyway, we had a nice relaxing weekend.  Saturday Daddy blew up my pool and I spent the ENTIRE day in it...even though it was a bit chilly at times.  It was a nice warm but windy day.  Mommy told Daddy to go pick out his early Father's Day gift...a new grill!  We have needed a new grill for quite some time now and he sure did pick out a nice one!  So, of course we had to go get some stuff to cook on it!  PaPa bought us some nice big juicy steaks, Mommy some chicken and me, well, I had a hot dog!  We invited the Hartley's' over and we all just hung out!  It was nice.
Sunday, Grandma and PaPa had to get on the road early.  We did some shopping at the craft store (Father's Day is soon), had lunch at McDonalds and then went to the movies to see Surf's Up.  It was pretty funny.  The rest of the day I spent in my pool!
Tomorrow is my first day back to daycare but I will be in a new class for the summer camp program!  I can't wait, new teachers and new friends.  I will have to let you know how it goes.

A Trip To Sam's (Lemmons) House!
June 15-18th, 2007

We were invited for a weekend to visit my best buddy Sam's family for the weekend.  We had been planning this trip for about a month but a last minute change left Daddy staying home to work...bummer.  Thankfully, we were able to catch a ride with the Hartley's and were still able to go!  We all crammed in the car and headed off!  This was baby Grey's first (really) long car ride and he did great! I did great too, but no one really seemed to care.  HA!  We got to Sam's house pretty late so I had to wait until the morning to see my friend(s).  Sam still has that sister, Sarah.

Saturday ~ I woke Mommy up around 5:30am....she asked me if I even slept!  I had to wait an hour before I was allowed to go downstairs!  Geez!  Thankfully, Sam was up by then!  We played all day...fought with Sarah, but it wasn't as bad as last time.  I was warned to be nice.  Sam and Sarah have a lot of cool toys and a pool!  It's the perfect size for us kids, we took a quick dip in it but it was still pretty cold.  We spent the whole day playing and got ready to go out for dinner at a Japanese restaurant.  Wow, it was pretty cool, nothing like I had ever experienced before!  They cooked the food right on our table!  The chef guy did all kinds of neat tricks, like spinning and tossing an egg around before he cracked it and cooked it!  We also had to eat with chopsticks, and I did a pretty good job using mine.  I'm mad though, I forgot them there...oops.  The chef guy cooked some shrimp and then tossed them at the grown-ups to catch in their mouths...only Jen H. caught hers!  We all had a great time there and ate some really good food.  Scott even got everyone to try some sushi...raw fish for me, no thanks!  Anyway, we all got back home and made a small fire for cooking s'mores!  This was after our awesome marshmallow fight!  We got Darrin good.  I like Darrin, he's just like a kid too.  He always plays with us!  Anyway, it was a fun night.

Sunday - Happy Father's Day! ~  I was sad that my Daddy was at home all by himself but we had fun celebrating with Scott and Darrin.  They opened their presents and helped to cook up a huge breakfast!  There was a running joke about them having to cook their own breakfast, but Sam's mommy wasn't feeling well and she didn't want to get anyone else sick so Sam's Daddy did most of the cooking.  It was yummy.  I ate lots of pancakes and bacon!  It was a hot, almost 100 degree day so we spent it swimming in the pool.  All the grown-ups got in too...and Darrin, of course didn't get to enjoy a peaceful dip in the pool!  We bombarded him pretty good and had a great battle.  My buddy Sam is a pretty good swimmer!  He can jump in and go under the water.  Mommy tried to get me to do it but, you know me, I'm stubborn.  Sam's mommy had bought all of us t-shirts and fabric markers, so we took some time out to design our own shirts.  I drew surfer stuff on mine!  It came out pretty nice.  We enjoyed a really nice cookout (again cooked by the men...heehee).  I had a hot dog and corn on the cob!  The night ended with some really good campfire cooked s'mores!

Monday ~
Boy, the weekend just flew by! It was time to get packed up and ready to head home.  We had such a nice time relaxing and being with friends.  Thanks to the Lemmons family for making us feel so at home and to the Hartley's for letting us ride along!

Happy Father's Day
June 17th, 2007

My Daddy is great!  I love him so much.  I made him a card at school that looks like a shirt with a tie.  It has a pocket on it too and for in that pocket I made him a little SpongeBob SquarePants and a Patrick.  Not sure why, just did!  I thought it was pretty funny though!  Anyway, we worked on a special paper for our Dad's today at school.

MY DAD

My Dad's name is "Mark".
He is so "funny"!
He looks like "my Dad with black hair and a little bit tall".
My Dad's favorite thing to do is "work".
His favorite food to eat is "pizza".
My Dad likes it when I "am helpful".
I love my Dad because "he plays with me".

Sadly, Daddy had to spend Father's Day at home by himself.  Mommy & me were in West Virginia visiting our friends, the Lemmons family.  Daddy was supposed to come along too, but got held up with work to do.  (Told you his favorite thing to do was work!).  We missed having him there.  We will plan another weekend for Father's Day activities.  Not sure where we will take him that will top Mommy's Mother's day adventures...heehee.
Daddy did get a nice present...his brand new grill!  I made him a can coozy too.  We will have to get a picture of it on here.  I am working on something for Pap-Pap and Pa-Pa too but you know me and projects, it takes me forever to finish them.  (At least I got cards out for them in time this year!)  Mommy hopes this isn't a sign of my progress with upcoming "homework" assignments!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
XOXOXO

Pink Eye and An Eye Infection
June 19th, 2007

While visiting at the Lemmons house, Mommy noticed that my eye was kind of "goopy".  She thought that it was just allergies, but as the day went on, it got redder and messier.  Plus, my eye lid was swelling.  She kept me pretty well cleaned up but since it was getting worse, made a doctors appointment because she was pretty sure it was pink eye.
Daddy was able to work from home and take me and the doctor said it was pink eye but that it was almost gone but that I had a pretty bad eye infection.  So, she gave Daddy eye drops and an antibiotic (pills) for me to take.
I was better by Wednesday to go back to school.  Good thing, because we had a fun field trip that day.  We went mini-golfing and to a park!  The swelling was gone by Thursday and all seems much better now.  Even better is that no one else caught it from me.  YAY!

Powder Room is Done!
June 23rd, 2007

Mommy and Daddy have been working on the powder room downstairs for a long time, well actually, they worked on it while I was away at Grandma's and then took a break from finishing it.  Not sure why, they just did!  They decided yesterday that they should just get it done.  SO, after a quick run to my favorite place in the whole world, Lowe's, we had all the rest of the stuff we needed to finish it.  I must say it looks pretty nice.  Everyone's favorite thing is the new faucet!  It looks like an old well pump.  It goes great with the "outhouse" theme of the bathroom.  Mommy also, picked out new globes for the light fixture, so now you no longer need to wear sunscreen when you pee!  HA!  Mommy took some pictures but because the bathroom is so small it is hard to get the whole effect.

BBQ with The Martinelli's
June 23rd, 2007

We enjoyed a nice last minute throw together BBQ with our friends, the Martinelli's.  It was nice seeing them and especially their son, Drew.  Alex was not able to come as he had to work.  We haven't seen them in a long, long time.  I don't know why we wait so long to get together and we always say we won't do that anymore...but something always comes up!  Anyway, we grilled out some good stuff, and Mommy made "shrimp on a stick" (that is what I was calling it).  I had a fun time showing Drew all my toys and Lego's.  Then we played Lego Star Wars on the XBox for quite awhile.  I was just excited to have someone else to play it with me!
I hope we can get together with them again soon.  I think Daddy, Bernie and Drew are going golfing tomorrow!  I wish I was big enough to go!

The Movies ~ Ratatouille
June 30th, 2007

Daddy & me went to see the new Pixar movie, Ratatouille today.  It was pretty funny and we had a nice father & son outing.  We shared a diet soda and some licorice, my new favorite movie viewing treat!

"A rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great French chef despite his family's wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in the sewers of Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau. Despite the apparent dangers of being an unlikely - and certainly unwanted - visitor in the kitchen of a fine French restaurant, Remy's passion for cooking soon sets into motion a hilarious and exciting rat race that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down."

It's no CARS...but still was very funny and you should check it out if you can!
