December 2007 Journal

Happy Holidays!  What a busy month December always is, am I right?

Looking forward to parties with friends, parties at school and holiday visits from family!

I hope we get a white Christmas this year...it's been a long time since we have.  Some how just doesn't seem right seeing green grass at Christmas.

I'm Playing Basketball
December 1 , 2007
Well, Mommy and Daddy signed me up to play basketball.  I told them I didn't want to but they said it would be good for me.  Today, was our first practice.  WOW!  Some of the kids on my team are pretty good.  I had some trouble but not once did I try to quit.  I was kind of sad that I wasn't very good but Daddy took me to Wal-mart and got me my own real basketball to practice with.
I will practice my dribbling and other things the coach said to work on and we will see if I do a much better job.

Week #14 ~ Kindergarten News
December 7 , 2007
We have been having fun reading holiday stories and doing activities to go with them.  We have been doing a lot of writing too.  We went on an "I see ...." adventure thru the halls of my school.  When we got back to class we had to write "I see a (and then draw a picture of what we saw).
We are learning about different holidays that are celebrated this month like, Hanukkah, Los Posadas, and Kwanzaa.
Also learning some new wall words this month:  said, is, and, am, big, "ing" ending and we also are learning partner letters like "sh", "ch" and "th".  I don't know them all yet, but I'm learning.
We have been working hard in math too...identifying and counting numbers to 10.  I have that mastered but I need to remember not to rush thru my work when we have a test and to go back and check it over.   We are also learning math vocabulary such as "equal", "more", and "less".  We have also starting graphing!
So, as usual I am being a busy learner at school.  My favorite thing is still the art center and art class!
I also really love my teacher and have a great friend, Scout!

Basketball Practice #2
December 8 , 2007
Well...my practicing that I had been doing all week really paid off.  I did much better and the coach said he could tell!
I found out that we are the GREEN team - I wonder if we will get shirts like I did for soccer.  Anyway, the coach thinks I will do best playing defense.
I have to practice catching a ball that is thrown straight at me.  I am kind of afraid of it and he thinks I could get hurt trying to catch the ball the way I am now.
I will continue my dribbling practice and try to switch hands as well.

Holiday Party with Friends
December 8 , 2007
What a fun day/night we had.
First, my best buddy in the world and his family are in town ~ The Lemmons'!  We got ready and met them at Chocolate World this morning.  The dads took us there while the moms went shopping at the outlets.  Then everyone came back to my house and we played for a few hours and had a yummy pizza lunch!
Later, we all got ready for our holiday party at the Fisher's.  It was a fun time for us kids - I think the grown-ups had a nice time as well, but I wasn't paying much attention to them.  We ate some really good food.  Thanks Melonie, you are a good hostess and cook!  The grownups made us all sit for pictures again, we didn't do too bad but it was Meghan's turn this year to throw the fit...heehee.  Next year, it should be Grey's turn, we'll see.  He's such a ham when the camera is on him though.  Anyway, all us kids wanted to do was open presents and FINALLY (after celebrating Sarah turning 4 ~  Happy Birthday Sarah!) it was time.  We tore into those packages like it was Christmas morning!  It was a crazy scene to see - paper was flying everywhere.  I was soo excited with my BIONICLE!  Sam and I both got some!  We had to build them right away, once the mommies figured out an easy way for us to do so without scattering Legos everywhere.  It was fun.  The grownups opened their stuff next.  Everyone got nice things but no one got any Lego's, how sad for them.  Ms. Jen (Lemmons) made a game for us to play.  It was like hot potato except it was a wrapped package and when the music stopped, if you were holding it, you got to unwrap a layer of paper....finally, after everyone had a turn...we opened the box filled with special goodies for us kids!  That was a fun game and kind of calmed all of us kids down.
Too soon it was time for everyone to head home.  I heard a lot of talk about all of us getting a beach house together this summer....oooohhh, I hope so...that would be soo much fun!
It was nice getting together and seeing everyone....I hope we can do it again sooner than later.  I don't know if I've ever mentioned this...but I hate that my best bud lives so far away!
Happy Holiday Everyone and Thanks for the great gifts.

My First "Snow Day"
December 13 , 2007
BUT THERE WAS NO SNOW!
Mommy woke up early this morning and decided to look at the school's website and it said "Schools Closed" ~ so she checked her cell phone and it was confirmed.  Due to the pending ice storm school was closed for the day.  Well....we ended up with just rain!  It was a little slick but not too bad.  Oops!

Better safe than sorry!

Pathfinder Repairs
December 13 , 2007
Daddy took the Pathfinder to the garage to begin it's 4,150 dollar repairs!   He picked up our rental car and because of the "pending ice storm" came back and worked from home that day.
We got a PT Cruiser!  It's been fun to drive but I don't like it.  It's "dirty and smells funny"!  HA!  Mommy thinks whoever had it before us smoked in it.  Yuck!  Mommy thinks she would like one of her own if it had just a little bit more trunk space!
We aren't anticipating getting the Pathfinder back until after the holidays!

PJ and The Polar Express Party
December 14 , 2007
We have been reading the popular Christmas story The Polar Express all week and our teachers, along with another class, have planned a party for us.  We got to wear our PJ's, watched the movie and had cookies with chocolate milk, just like the kids in the story!
It made for a fun Friday activity!

Christmas Village
December 14 , 2007
Tonight we went for a drive...an hour drive to Berks County to see the lights and decorations of Christmas Village.  Mommy had been wanting to come here for a long time.  So, tonight we decided that the weather was good enough to go and check it out.  We drove and drove on this winding road then we came up over a hill and there it was...all lit up!  It looked really pretty.

A little history taken from the website:

William M. Koziar, the creator of Christmas Village, began decorating his home and property in 1948 for the pleasure he and his wife, Grace, and their four children derived from the unusual display. People appreciated and applauded the beauty of the Koziar home and began to refer to it as the "Christmas House."

It was a really cold night but we had a fun time walking around the property looking at all the lights and decorations.  I enjoyed looking windows of the little houses they had set up.  Although, much of the place is a little outdated...it sure did take someone a long time to make all the decorations and to set things up so nice.  We had a fun family adventure.

Basketball Practice #3
December 15 , 2007
Well...I did pretty good.  Daddy likes that I don't throw a fit and try to quit.  However, I do need to pay more attention and be a bit more serious and a little more aggressive.
I didn't get as much practice in before this week so I will have to double it up for next weeks practice.  I did learn a new skill for defense, how to hold my hands out to the side and try and take a ball if someone (from the other team) is dribbling in front of me.
I had to "do a lap" for the coach today though.  Lesson learned "do not roll eyes at grownup when they are speaking to you!"  Sorry.

Ice Storm Hits the Area
December 15th -17th , 2007
The weather men were calling for a wintry mix and freezing rains and boy did we ever get that!  It rained and rained most of the night.  We knew it was probably sleet because we could really here it hitting the side of the house.
When we woke up on Sunday morning everything had a nice layer of ice on it.  It looked so cool.  Mommy tried to take some pictures but those just do not give it justice.  It looked like a fantasy land out there.  The grass was completely frozen.  Every blade of grass was incased in ("glass") ice!  It was beautiful.
However, with this beauty, brought lots of problems to the area.  A lot of people were without power...for days...some just getting their power back on the 18th!  Trees were snapping due to the weight of the ice and bringing down power lines everywhere!  We were lucky, our power flickered but never went completely out.  Due to the power outages I did not have school on Monday!  WOW...2 "snow days" in the month of December already and neither of them bringing me any snow to play in!

Mommy's White Christmas
December 16 , 2007
Tonight Mommy had a night out with friends.
Yes, I did!  There were 12 of us that went to the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater to see Irving Berlin's White Christmas.  It was a fun relaxing evening with good company.  We all ate too much food, too much dessert and really enjoyed the show.  We may make it a tradition...next years show will be A Christmas Carol.  I want to take Cole as well to one of their children's productions...next Christmas they are doing The Nutcracker and in the summer months - Zorro!
What fun!  I really enjoy going to show there.

Holiday School Party
December 20 ,2007
Today was my party at school.  We had a fun time.  I got lots of little treats.  I enjoyed giving my teachers and bus driver their gifts.  They all liked them and were very thankful.
I'm too excited to think though...my Uncle Mark is coming today!
"Uncle" Mark Visits
December 20th - 22nd ,2007
My uncle Mark is visiting from Florida!  It has been awhile since he has been back up here in PA!  We had a fun night visiting and our friend Bernie and Drew came over to see him as well.  I had a fun time playing with Drew.  I couldn't get over or understand why the grown-ups had to talk the WHOLE night and not play with me?!
Friday afternoon, Mommy, Daddy AND Uncle Mark came and picked me up from school.  I got to show him my classroom (whew, he was lucky, I thought for sure he was going to hit his head on the ceiling!) and introduce him to my teacher.  After that we drove all they way over to Camp Hill to eat lunch at this Philly Steak place!  Uncle Mark was going on and on about these sandwiches, I could really have cared less and really wanted to go to McDonald's instead.  Oh well.  We got there at a time that wasn't too busy.  Uncle Mark talked to the owner, who was busy cooking, about how he missed these sandwiches...and the guy gave him his sandwich on the house!  WOW!  He even bought my lunch!  What a nice guy.  After we stuffed our faces it was time to head home, Grandma and PaPa were to be showing up anytime now...........

Grandparents Proper Visit
December 21st - 27th ,2007
...Grandma & PaPa got here shortly after we got home from lunch!  I was so excited to have people visit!  Also, it is getting harder and harder to wait to open presents!  So, since Uncle Mark was here and our friend Amanda came over to visit.  I was allowed to open 2 gifts from them!  Of course, I had to wait until after our yummy dinner of spaghetti and venison sausage!  I passed on the sausage, but Mommy seems to think that I would like it if I would just try it!  Anyway, on to the presents!  Amanda got me a game called Doodle Dice.  She didn't think I would like it and yes, my initial response was not all that exciting but I do like to play it once you get me too!  The grown-ups enjoyed themselves though - Amanda was tough to beat!  She has had some experience with it.  Uncle Mark had brought me a present and said that there was one still on it's way.  I opened it up and was soo excited!  It was his old Gameboy from when he was a kid.  I love playing Melonie's when we go to their house, so Mommy must have told him that!  Everyone had a good time reminiscing about the games he gave me.  I didn't care, I was too busy, pretty much had my face buried in it for the rest of the night!  That is when I could get Amanda away from it!  HA!  It did give the grown-ups a chance to visit and play a few games, something they haven't been able to do in a long time.

Uncle Mark had to leave on Saturday afternoon but we had such a nice visit with him.  He needs to come back sooner than later and please bring Lisa with you next time!  I have to take her to Chocolate World!

**My gift arrived shortly after Uncle Mark left, so Mommy let me open it.  A remote control helicopter!  THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!

Basketball Practice #4
December 22 ,2007
Grandma & PaPa came with Daddy and me to my practice.  I had been showing off my dribbling skills in the kitchen and they were quite impressed.  I must say, I have gotten A LOT better.  They had a fun time watching me and I was sure to do a good job and listen to my coach!
Oh my!  No practice next weekend and our first game is on the 6th!  I'm excited and very nervous!
Glow Bowling!
December 23 ,2007
FINALLY....we went glow bowling!  Mommy has been wanting to go glow bowling since she first read that they had it!  It was a bummer that Grammy & Pap-Pap or Uncle JG couldn't go with us this year...but we still had a fun time.  It was dark in the bowling alley, but I didn't think it was dark enough.  I wanted to go when the disco lights were running but Mommy said they do that one in the evenings...this was glow bowling for families so they wouldn't make it too dark to scare little kids!  Anyway, it was still fun and our clothes were glowing and the bright orange balls that we used did too!  I did a pretty good job and Grandma was excited to break 100!   Mommy was the champ though and Daddy was not too thrilled about that!  I sense a rematch in our near future!

FULL HOUSE ~ Finally!  Everyone is Here!
December 23 ,2007
My house is packed full of people and I wouldn't have it any other way!  Grammy & Pap-Pap got here shortly after dark and it was raining really hard.  Uncle JG got here a little bit before 9 o'clock.  Me in bed by then...not when I knew he was coming!  Mommy made a venison steak dinner and everyone visited.   Did I mention that we had a few cookies in the house!  WOW!  So many choices and everyone seemed to overindulge in those.  My favorites are the chocolate ones with the caramel in the middle!  I ate them all up!  Not in one sitting though.
I was excited to get to stay up really late and play with my Uncle.  I think it was almost midnight before he said he was tired!  HA!
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve!  I can't wait....when can I open a present?!

Christmas Eve
December 24 ,2007
I am truly excited about Christmas this year...finally my parents think I have figured out what it is all about.  I am anxious and hyper and going a little nuts with all the packages under the tree that have my name on them and that I am not allowed to touch!  WHAT?!  C'mon, just one....pleasssse.  Okay...what, Mom said okay!?  Just one she said, from Uncle JG.  Woo-Hoo!   I picked one that I thought would be really good...and it was....Lego Exo-Force Dark Panther!  One of the new ones I asked for!  Daddy couldn't believe that Mommy let me open a package BEFORE Christmas....didn't think we were starting that.  I think it was a plan to keep me busy so the grown-ups could visit.  I didn't care, I love to put Lego's together.  We had a relaxing day.  Pap was busy making artichokes, I don't like them (well I don't think i do, haven't' tried one) but they sure do make the house smell good!  Everyone munched on cheese, deer baloney and jerky, cookies, crab dip and chokes!  I wasn't into eating so much...too busy playing and having my nose in that GameBoy.  Everyone seemed to be getting a kick out of my "attention span" and comparing me to Daddy.   We also made sure to keep checking the internet to see where Santa was and when he crossed the ocean it was time to kick things in gear and get ready for his arrival.  First, I had to make his cookies.  Instead of one big giant cookie this year, I made a whole bunch.  I topped them with kisses and sprinkles and even rolled some into a ball and hid the kiss inside!  I called them my "surprise" cookies!  I made a special one for Mrs. Claus too.  Since I wouldn't go sit on Santa's lap this year, I wrote him a special note.  We got the food ready for the reindeer and put the key on the door.  I was soo excited I could barely get to sleep!  I knew I had to though because I didn't want him to skip my house because I was still awake!

Merry Christmas!
December 25 ,2007
I was up earlier than usual for me this morning...although still late for little kids on Christmas morning!  I do love my sleep...another  thing I get from my Dad!  Anyway...it was morning and SANTA HAD ARRIVED!  I was excited to see a bean bag chair!  Just like the one I had seen in the magazine and told Mom that I wanted.  There was a little packaged wrapped up and sitting on top of that.
Woo-Hoo - my DS that I wanted!  Red & black, just like I asked for!  I can say I was a bit self-centered when it came to Christmas this year, unlike Christmases in the past where I would hand out gifts to other people, I just pushed those ones out of the way!  If it didn't say C-O-L-E on it, it was no concern to me!  I was allowed to get away with this for a little bit and then Mommy & Daddy brought me back "down to earth" so to speak, and I happily searched for gifts for others and handed them out....however, I had no interest in watching them open them up!  I was much faster at opening my gifts this year...I got everything I wanted and then some.  I got BIONICLES, movies, DS & XBOX games, Nerf dart guns, Star Wars light sabers (Dad got one too!), a model rocket I can "blast off", board games, my very own digital camera, I Spy books, Star Wars books, Lego road pieces, Pokémon & Ben 10 figures and gift cards.  I experienced a range of emotions when I learned my Wal-mart gift card from Santa was for $5.00 and NOT $500...but that's okay.
I think I heard everyone being excited with their gifts as well.
Mommy & Daddy fixed a yummy dinner.  I just had rolls...typical.  I wasn't very hungry and wanted to get back to playing with my new stuff and with Uncle JG because he had to leave soon.
Oh...how could I forget!  Santa brought Daddy & me The Simpson's Movie - so that was the evening activity....along with playing my Doodle Dice and Totally Gross game!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone and Merry Christmas!

We Got Our Car Back!
December 28 ,2007
Finally!  The garage called Daddy and told him they were finished with the car!  It looks nice and all brand-new on the front.  It's been a long time since the brush guard has looked so good...they even gave us a new license plate holder in the front!

**Update ~ going to have to call the garage back, it's making a grinding/scraping noise when we are in reverse and turning the wheel to the right.  Ugh, I hope this is something simple and they won't have the car again for another week!

Christmas Candy Lane ~ Hershey Park
December 29 ,2007
Cooped in the house for too many days....had us adventuring out to Hershey Park today for their Christmas Candy Lane!  We didn't make it to the Halloween adventure this year so Mommy said we would do the Christmas one!  We had perfect weather, it was rather mild, I didn't even need my big winter coat, just a nice layer of clothes, my hat, gloves and cozy fleece!  We stayed for quite awhile and rode pretty much everything...however, this year I did not want to ride anything by myself, so I skipped all those kiddie rides...even my favorite ones of the past!  Daddy got me a soft pretzel and that thing was as big as my head!  Guess what...I ate the whole thing, well minus the part that Daddy took, but he never figured I would have eaten it all!  Later, I had a corn dog!  My new favorite food.  We went out to dinner later that night at Funck's Family Restaurant.  I was super excited to see corn dogs on their menu!  That restaurant was good eatin', we aren't sure why we don't eat there more often.  Anyway, back to the park.  I played a couple games and won 2 little stuffed animals, a blue monkey and a blue dog.  We stayed until it got dark and then was getting too cold.  Oh, we rode the Antique Car ride, stood in line for quite awhile, when it came time for me to get in the driver's seat, I didn't want too.  Mommy wonders what the people thought of her as I am saying "no, I don't want to drive" while she is shoving me in the seat, practically on my head!  I gave in and Daddy showed me what to do and I thought it was the BEST thing!  I wanted to do it again but the line was just too long and I was getting cold.

We had a fun night and it's nice that we have nice weather this time of year to be able to do such things....however, I wouldn't mind some snow to play in and use my sled!  I did ask Mommy what "global warming" was while we were riding the train!

Bowling & Shopping
December 30 ,2007
We got up and out of the house again today.  Time for a rematch at bowling.  I did much better with holding the ball with the correct fingers and actually trying to swing it back to get more power.  It's hard but I was actually willing to learn.  I still use the bumpers but quite a few of my balls did not hit them.  Mommy beat Daddy again, it was a pretty close game but she sealed it with a few strikes in the end!  Go Mommy!
They are forming an adult/child glow bowling league, we may look into that.  The games would be on Sundays and we get to bowl 2 games each.  It would be a fun activity for winter and hopefully get me bowling a little bit better.
Next, we needed to go to Wal-mart for some groceries and Daddy needed stuff to make the infamous New Year's sandwiches!  I, of course, had some Christmas money to spend and a few gift cards PLUS money I have been saving for a  few months.  I had just gotten the new Lego magazine, so I knew what I wanted to get. The Star Wars Trade Federation MTT.  It was going to cost a lot of money, so Mommy helped me count it out and put it in my wallet.  Well, when we got there, they didn't have it.  That was okay...Daddy looked up and saw the Exo-Force Mobile Devastator!  I originally had wanted Santa to bring me this toy but had changed my mind around Thanksgiving when I started asking for and thinking about the DS!  Anyway, Daddy tired to talk me out of it, maybe waiting to go to another store where I may have more choices...nope, my eyes lit up when I realized that they had it there.  Daddy got it down for me and it took up the whole cart!  We had to put it on the bottom.  After shopping I got to check out first.  The lady rang it up and said "51.94".  Daddy said, "WHAT?"  She said it again and we all quickly celebrated...did a little dance and I used my gift cards and then I had to count out the rest of my money to pay for it.  I was so excited that I didn't have to spend all my money that I brought!  No where near the toy aisle did it say the Lego's were on sale and for nearly half off?!?!  What a huge deal.
We stopped and ate at the new Sonic restaurant.  That was kind of neat, you sit in your car, place your order and the wait staff bring your stuff out to you on ROLLER SKATES!  I had a ....CORN DOG!
I could hardly wait to get home and carry that big huge box into the house!  Mommy started helping me by sorting pieces and getting me back on track if I lost my place.  We started building at approx. 1:45pm.  I worked non-stop and by 6 o'clock Daddy and I had it finished!  Whew!  Mommy was impressed that I stuck with it that long and I really did it with very little help.  They kept telling me I could take a break but NO WAY was I doing that!  Mommy documented the whole thing on film and it's huge!  I absolutely LOVE it!

New Year's Eve
December 31 ,2007
What an uneventful day for The Proper's.  I would have to say it was probably the first New Year's that we did absolutely nothing to celebrate ringing in the new year!
We started the morning out good with Daddy shoveling the little bit of snow we had gotten and Mommy and me had a pretty fun snow battle....couldn't even talk Daddy into being one bit playful during that!  Oh well...his loss!
I enjoyed playing my DS, Mommy worked on the website, Daddy actually had work to do (yes, he's' supposed to be on vacation!).
We did make our New Year's sandwiches so there are about 40 of those babies taking over the fridge...I wonder just how long it will take Daddy to eat those?

I had to go to bed at a decent hour because i have to get back on some kind of schedule, since I have school starting back up on Wednesday!  Mommy thinks I am going to have a tough time adjusting.  Mommy said she was tired so she went to bed early too.  I think I heard some fireworks going off at midnight but we can't see them from our house anymore.  Bummer.

See you all next year!  This one has been great!
