March 2009 Journal

March blew in like a LION and blew out like a LION!

Dad has a big work trip this month...heading to the Microsoft Convention in New Orleans!

I will be graduating to my next belt level (ORANGE) this month!  I am excited for that.

Spring is around the corner...or so they tell me...haven't really experienced it yet!

SICK!
March 2 - 5th, 2009
Yuck!  I managed to catch some kind of cold...just an awful case of post nasal drip!  It kind of started last week and we thought it was just allergies but developed into a fever over the weekend and into a non-stop annoying cough!  I was coughing so bad on Monday that Mom could not send me to school.  There was just no way I would have been able to focus and/or not disrupt the whole class.  So, I got to hang out on the couch and watch TV and took a long, long nap!
We actually had a lot of snow on Monday...so I didn't even get to enjoy that!  This however, caused a 2-hour delay for school on Tuesday and I seemed much better...so I went to school.  I also had my afterschool bowling party that day, so I was glad that I didn't have to miss it!  However, by the time Dad picked me up I was a coughing mess again.  I went to bed early...like 6 o'clock early!  Yea, that's not right.
Wednesday, I got up with a belly ache...so Mom kept me home and we went to the doctors.  She thought for sure that I would get sent for blood work, so she prepared me for that.  No, just a prescription for an antibiotic and a note to stay home from school for one more day.  I started to feel better by that afternoon.  It felt good to stay home another day...to watch TV and sleep.
By Friday I was much, much better and able to go to school.  However, the fits I was throwing about taking my medicine were just getting me into big trouble.  Finally, I decided to listen to Mom and just take the spoon of medicine and THEN drink or eat something that I like to make the taste go away.  I am a bit stubborn and only think my ideas and way of thinking are the right ones...but I will have to admit...Mom was right on this one.  We opted for the spoonful of sugar and this was perfect...worked like a charm...taking my medicine for the next 10 days - although annoying...was no longer an issue!

I'm glad to be feeling much, much better.  Mom is glad I didn't get that yucky vomiting flu bug that seemed to plague everyone around us.  I would come home from school reporting..."guess who threw up today!

Grey's 2nd Birthday - Lemmon's Family Visits!
March 7, 2009
Can not believe that Grey is TWO already!  I was excited to go to his birthday party AND even more excited that Sam's family was coming in for it.  I was kind of bummed that they didn't get to stay with us this time...due to me being so sick, we didn't even know if we would make it to the party!  All was good though...what a fun time we had visiting and celebrating.
Grey's mom made an awesome John Deere Tractor cake and she planned some fun games.  We played pin the wheel on the tractor and I WON!  Woo-Hoo...a Hershey's Chocolate Bar!  We also had an egg hunt and that was fun too.

All of the grown-ups visited and we ate and ate and ate.  I was sad that it was soon time to go.  We had to leave early because Dad still needed to pack for his big trip to New Orleans.

Mom Reads to my Class!
March 12, 2009
It is Read Across America Week at my school...and I was excited to have Mom come and read to my class today!  We both chose the book together - The Flea's Sneeze.  It's a funny story about a flea with a cold.  My class really liked it and Mom did a good job.  I was being all shy about her being there...I don't like any attention on me - believe that one!

Thanks Mom!  That was fun!

Trip to Zoo America
March 14, 2009
Mom and I have been having some good quality time...since Dad is in New Orleans for a whole week!  I miss him and can't wait for him to come home.  The weather was pretty nice today...so after karate (class #116) we decided to use our HersheyPark season passes that Grammy & PapPap got us for Christmas - they are good for the zoo too!  What a fun time we had!  I really enjoy that zoo...and especially since I was there for camp last summer.  I feel like I really know a lot about the place.  It was a good day there...the animals were active and the place was not busy at all.  We spent a long time watching a duck play or take a bath in the water...we noticed him while crossing the bridge...no one else did, they just hurried by...it was so funny, he was making such a ruckus.  Then we watched the otters...they are always fun.  The baby bobcats (which have grown since Mom and I saw them in October) were climbing up and down their cage!  The Prairie Dogs (my favorite) were all out and about, busy working on digging tunnels and playing with each other...and barking their warning signal to each other.  We must have stood and watched these guys for half an hour.  The female mountain lion must have been having some serious dreams, as she was just making all kinds of noise but I am pretty sure she was asleep!  The wolves were taking a nap when we passed them, but by the time we reached the top of the hill, near the exit of the zoo....something woke them up...we can see them from here, and use the telescope thing as well...boy, they are some big animals.  Anyway, they all got up and walked around then howled and howled for about 5 minutes...walked back around and then back to their napping spots!  That was soo cool to see and hear!  We got to the exit and decided one more trip around was needed before we headed home!  It was a fun day at the zoo!   I wish Daddy could have been with us...and HE had the camera!

A New Molar!
March 19, 2009
So, I was brushing my teeth before bed and I told Mom that my gum felt funny, like it was cut.  She checked in there and low and behold...a molar is cutting thru the gum!  This intrigued me, so Mom got the mirror and flashlight out so I could see it.  I looked around in there...hmm..."Mom, what is that stuff back there that looks like cotton candy?"  HA!  Mom said they were my tonsils.

So, I guess I am getting my 8 year molars.  Mom laughed as she wasn't even thinking about me getting new molars yet!  Looking in my little mouth, makes us wonder how do and how will they fit in there?

Middle Creek Park
March 21, 2009
We packed up a lunch, and the Hartley's - headed to a place called Middle Creek.  It's a wildlife preserve and part of the PA Game Lands.  The area has become home to thousands of Snow Geese and Tundra Swans during the migrating season.  We wanted to check them out!
Well.....we were a week late...the warm winds that we "teased" with caused them to leave.  There were not many left at all.  We did get to see some of them though.  Enjoyed a nice walk with friends and a breezy cool picnic!  All was not lost!  We wrote it on our calendars...so we can go check it out next year!  I guess it's quite the site to see!

Back to the Zoo!
March 22, 2009
Mom and I wonder...if we keep going to the zoo often, will the animals recognize us?  I wanted Dad to come along...and we decided today would be perfect.  We had no plans...didn't want to sit around on the couch...and it's FREE for us to go!  Dad hadn't' been to the zoo with me in a very long time and not since I was at zoo camp.  So, he hadn't heard all of my stories...and this time I was glad to have the camera!  I showed Dad all my favorite stuff...especially the room with the nocturnal animals.  I showed him the vampire bats and how they drink blood from the dish.  I showed him the Coral Snake that I got to hold at camp and told him the names of the cacti in the dessert animal section!  The otters were showing off again today and well as the good old Prairie Dogs!  I wanted Dad to get all kinds of photos of them!  We had a fun time and all our fun times seems to end with a stop at Brusters for ice cream!  I love the Dinosaur Sundae!  :)

Bounce U
March 23, 2009
I had no school today - just a teacher in-service day.  Dad was supposed to have the day off of work but no such luck.  So, Mom and I decided we should get out of the house and do something fun.
Bounce U is a place near my house.  I had been there a few times for some friends birthday parties but Mom was never there.  They were holding an "open bounce" for all ages and we had a FREE coupon!  YAY!
Bounce U is a place with all of those giant inflatable moon bounce type things.  There are obstacle courses, giant slides, basketball courts, and boxing rings.  I showed Mom how they all "worked" and she joined me for some of them.  I beat her every time in the obstacle course with the giant slide at the end.  She "says" that I cheated...but I was always way ahead of her.  Mom had a fun time but she said that she felt old!  I usually always get a brush burn boo-boo while here but this time only Mom got one!  And she said it really hurt and she now knows why I complained about it so much. :)
It was a fun 2 1/2 hours of free fun and exercise.  I was tired when we left!

Trip to the Dentist
March 26, 2009
I finally was able to have my dentist appointment from January rescheduled - and it was for both Mommy and me today!  Mom had to pick me up from school early, so that was kind of fun.  However, I told her in the car that I didn't want to leave as we were learning something new!  We are learning what makes a sentence and was is NOT a sentence.  Pretty soon I will be able to actually be writing these journal entries all on my own people!

Mom and I got to go in together, so I got to see how they take x-ray pictures of mom's teeth.  That was weird.  Mom got a great report...no cavities and lookin' good.  It was my turn, and I got a good report too.  I was glad to get a different "more grown-up" flavor of tooth paste.  I hate all that fruity, bubblegum stuff!  Yuck!  She was able to brush my teeth with mint flavor!  However, the fluoride treatment I had to go with either bubblegum or strawberry...I chose the latter...and it was still gross.  This time the treatment was different...before they just pained it on my teeth...this time they put all this goop in a mouthpiece that I had to hold clamped down with my teeth for a few minutes.  Mom was sitting there and started to giggle at me, wishing she had the camera...she said I looked like a duck, which caused me to giggle...and then the hygienist gave me a mirror and then we were all giggling at me giggling.   I was glad when it was done.  I did like that I got to rinse my mouth out with water and run the suction thing myself...that was kind of cool.
The dentist said my teeth look good.  Noticed my new molar coming in....but non of my baby teeth are budging yet.  Darn it!  I really want to lose a tooth.  Mom said they'll probably all start coming out at once!

Good reports and I picked an orange (did you think I wouldn't) toothbrush to bring home!

Karate Belt Graduation Ceremony
March 28, 2009
This is my fourth belt graduation and this one I have been especially excited for.  I will be getting my ORANGE BELT!

Our ceremony was at the public school gymnasium this time, so it was a big one.  There are a lot of kids in my Tiny Tiger Class now.  Although most are lower belt levels.  I will continue to be a part of the Tiny Tiger Class until I earn my green belt (that is in June).  Once I have earned that belt, it will take 6 months (not 3) until I earn the next one.  I will stay in the Tiny Tiger Class for 3 months - then move up to the "big kids" class!  Once I do that I will need to get a "bo"!  It is a long piece of rounded wood, kind of like a broomstick.  The Bo is one of the more popular weapons to learn and I can't wait!  Also, by summer Mom said that I will need a new Gi - mine is just getting a bit too small.  We are hoping it will last the summer and then we need to figure out how to get all my awesome stars transferred to a new one!  Mom said she is willing to pay out for that!  HA!  I also have spied up two patches that the school sells that I want.  One is a big circle with a karate guy on it and the other is the American Flag.

Anyway...back to graduation!
We got there early, I needed to practice with my teacher.  We were the second group to perform and earn our belts.  We showed off all kinds of cool stuff.  We demonstrated (and Dad videoed) our "stack your hands, side block, punch, step" and repeated with the other side.  We also demonstrated quite a few of our self defense moves that we had been learning.  The SWAT team members came over and helped out so we would actually have someone to "take down".  When we were finished we got our new belt colors...I was grinning from ear to ear for this one.  Mom and Dad said I did a great job and that I looked a lot less nervous and more confident in what I was doing!

Sensei John made a few announcements about the school.  He and a few of the teachers/students are planning a trip to Okinawa to compete in a tournament.  So, they are selling Hershey's chocolate....yummy!  Also, another huge announcement is that last summer Sensei Bill and Sensei Justin and Travis (a student who just earned his black belt! He's on the SWAT team and he's just incredible to watch and he's JUST A KID!) competed and they all earned medals.  Bill got a Silver and both Justin and Travis got Gold!  Yay for them!  But wait!  That is not all...both Sensei's Bill and Justin were asked to be a part of the 2009 WKC/USA World Championship Team!  This is a pretty big deal - thinking 2 people from my little karate school making it to the World Team!  WOW!

It was a fun morning...and I got to see the older kids do things that I want to learn how to do!

Laser Factory
March 28, 2009
After graduation I was excited because Dad said he would take me and a few friends to The Laser Factory to play laser tag!  I have been wanting to go back to this place since I was there over the summer for a birthday party!  I want to have my birthday party there this year...Mom said "we'll see".
So, Dad called my friends Alec & Jared...but they couldn't go as their grandma was in visiting.  So, we called Colin and he was allowed...yay....so we planned to leave around 2 o'clock.  Ugh, I had to wait.  Dad did some geocaching stuff he needed to do and while he was out...Jared came over and asked what time we were going and that they could go now!  Woo-Hoo!  I was so excited to have 3 friends be able to go with us!
Dad loaded us all up and off we went.  We got to play 2 games and it was fun.  We were there for a few hours and played some arcade games as well.  Dad said we were very well behaved...so I hope he will take us all again sometime soon!
