April 2009 Journal

April Showers bring May Flowers....so we should be seeing lots!  This wind is still blowing us around like crazy!  Mom thinks we moved to Chicago or something!

It is starting to warm up but not like we typically do by this time of the year.

Happy Easter to everyone this month!

APRIL FOOL'S ~  Gotcha Dad!
April 1, 2009
YES!  YES!  YES!  Now,  I did have a little bit of help and encouragement from Mom but originally all my idea to want to fool Dad.  I am a little jokester at heart ya know!
I got up for school...and Mom said now would be a good time to "get Dad" as he was just getting out of the shower, it was early and his brain was probably still asleep!  Mom's words, not mine!  :)
I was nervous and wanted Mom to do it with me and she said that if she did, he would realize something was "up".  So, I went into the bathroom.
"Dad!  The toilet is overflowing!"
Mark "What? Where?"
Cole:  "The toilet is overflowing, in my bathroom"
Mark:  "Okay"
And for what seemed like an eternity...Dad followed me to the bathroom.
Cole:  "April Fools' Dad!"
Mark:  "Oh, haha, you!  Pretty good one Cole"

Funny thing...I hear Mom and Dad talking about how I actually got him.  Mom told Dad she didn't know what was funnier...the fact that it actually folded him or his very slow reaction to the toilet overflowing all over the bathroom!  Dad is so not a morning person and apparently that couldn't even snap him out of it!

Coloring Easter Eggs!
April 4, 2009
You know...I would have to say that coloring Easter Eggs is one of my most favorite activities to do!

Mom, Dad and I colored eggs.  Dad likes to make his "ugly" egg.  I like to see what color I can get from dipping the egg into different dyes.  This year I figured out how to get a really cool orange color from dipping into the pink and then the yellow.
We bought a kit this year that made shiny eggs.  You had to spread this glue all over it and let it get sticky, then you put this shiny foil type paper on it and rubbed, some of it would come off on the egg...turned out pretty cool.

We colored a dozen hard boiled eggs and then the dozen of raw eggs Mom had in the fridge and I wanted to do more!  Mom said next year, she should buy a couple dozen and then we can just give them to the neighbors that don't have kids...since we would never use that many eggs!  HA HA!

I told Mom that I may even try one tomorrow...not sure I'll like it...but I have been a "tad" bit more daring lately with trying new foods...now vegetables, forget it!  No way, I already "know" that I don't like them!

Susquehanna Art Museum, Mini-Golf and Ice Cream!
April 5, 2009
It was a beautiful Spring day today...we headed to downtown Harrisburg.  Mom had mentioned going to the art museum and I was intrigued by that idea.  It's a very small museum, but it was perfect for me.  I really, really enjoyed it.  The lady there gave me a couple games to do while looking at the art.  One was a scavenger hunt/bingo type game and the other was kind of like a scavenger hunt too.  I had to find 4 different works of art - and then comment about how they made me feel.  I liked doing these.  Mom helped me a lot with the Bingo paper by saying the "clues" and then I would look around and find it.  The museum is only 2 floors and the 2nd floor was my favorite, it was more interesting.  There was a large picture of Poptarts stacked on top of each other...a man made out of TV screens, an actual motorcycle painted pink, carrots stuck to the wall like they were "shot" there, a giant crushed can of soda picture and an ox made out of shredded sweaters!

After our visit there, we decided to drive down to City Island.  This is where the minor league baseball team plays their games and they are building a new and improved stadium...however, they need to get a move on it...opening day is in a few weeks!  We walked around and went to the mini-golf place, we all did pretty well.  Dad won of course, but you know...he was keeping score!  It was a nice course, however, needs some cleanup and repairs but we were there early in the season, they haven't officially opened yet, right now, it just depends on the weather.

We went out for dinner and then stopped at Dairy Queen for some ice cream!  I love going for ice cream!  Good thing....so do Mom and Dad!

It was a fun day!

100 Miles in 100 Days!  Yay Mom!
April 6, 2009
As you all may know...Mom has started running....I think she first started training in August, so it hasn't been quite a full year yet.  She and Dad both ran a 5K in October and a 2 miler in November.  Dad ended up getting shin splints pretty bad and it has really put a damper on his running, then the weather effected him (you all know the man does not do well in the cold) and of course work conflicts.  Mom has been getting out as often as she can, weather permitting.  Mom said she loves running in the cold, it's just those 30mph winds that are annoying and make it tough...and well...we have had our fair share of high winds this season!  Anyway, on January 1st Mom set a goal for herself...to try and run 100 miles in 100 days.  Today she accomplished that goal with 101.3 total in 96 days!  Woo-hoo and toot-toot!
Mom said she needs to find a race to sign up for this Spring and maybe after Easter try and set a new goal for herself...maybe try 200 miles in 100 days this time!  That shouldn't be so hard since the weather will be nicer and she won't miss so many days between runs.
We'll keep ya posted....
